Workstations that workThe average adult spends more than half of their day sitting down, but such a seemingly safe activity can be bad for your health. International research has recently focused on sedentary behaviour and the risks of sitting or lying down for prolonged periods. In fact, studies warn that sedentary lifestyles are likely to cause as many deaths as smoking. It’s surprisingly easy to sit for 15 hours each day, but emerging evidence links prolonged sitting with chronic diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and stroke, as well as obesity, and poor mental health.
