First of al l , we wil l talk about learning Engl ish general lyand then we wil l talk about how it developed as a language. An Engl ish learner is in fact , always better off than aLezgian () learner, because people have come upwith so many different genres and types of Engl ish movies, music and books, as long as Engl ish cont inues in popularityit wi l l become easier and easier to learn. After al l , i t is easyto get into a movie that has something in common with yourl i festyle and the fr iends you hang out with, no matter i f i t isnot in the same language you speak. As for spel l ing or asfar as spel l ing is concerned, dont worry i f you have to f i l l ina form in Engl ish, just do it onl ine, and use spel l checker .This wi l l mean you wil l spel l the words correct ly for sure, and have the conf idence to get back into writ ing Engl ish.By the way, i f you feel l ike gett ing out of your normalcomfort-zone and do some travel l ing you can go with Engl ishal l over the world.I t is up to you, how good your Engl ish becomes, and dai lypract ice wi l l make a difference. I t is important to take careof the way you use special Engl ish phrases, In some waysthey can sweeten a conversat ion, but on the other handmake sure you do not overuse them in case, you put toomuch sugar in the coffee, so to speak. Right away, when youbegin, keep in mind the message you are trying to put out .Once again write Engl ish in a way that works out for you. I tis up to you to decide how you wish to express yoursel f . Sofar you can speak Engl ish wel l , but can you express yoursel fin exact ly the way you want? In the way you expressyoursel f in your nat ive language? For example, i f you aresomeone who is late, come up with some funny Engl ishcomebacks:I 'm n o t l a t e . . . e v e r y on e e l s e i s j u s t ea r l y .orHo l d o n , I w on t b e l a t e i f I d o n t sh ow u p

Do it , r ight away! Come on!the history of the English languages u pp l emen t a r y v i d e o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfKhlJIAhew- History of Engl ishin 10 minutes

In 410 AD, the barbarians got r id of the Romans and theRoman Empire got out of England for good, this set up thedevelopment of the Engl ish language. The barbarians whowere used to Roman oppression, could, al l of a sudden usetheir own language. Other barbarians started f looding in .Anglo, Saxon and Jute words turned out to be, in effect ,more useful than the Roman words. In 597 AD monks showed up in order to convert people intoChrist ians. Christ ianity was a hit with the locals andencouraged them to take on some Latin words. They ran intotrouble when the Vik ings showed up in 800 AD. They wentahead and gave the word give and the Engl ish languagetook the word take . England got through the Vik inginvasion and ended up with 2,000 new words. In 1066 AD the Normans (French speaking) invadedEngland. French words where used for meat that wasserved in a restaurant in favor of the word used for themeat whi le the animal was al ive, which in fact came fromthe Engl ish speaking farmers. eg pork (Romantic-French),pig/swine (Germanic-Engl ish). The French were the rul ingclass at this t ime, so this of course, made sense. Al l in al l ,the Engl ish picked up about 10,000 French words from the

3Normans. The Hundred Years War took place from1337 1453 and it worked out that England was stuck withthe Engl ish language.More or less, Shakespeare invented 2,000 Engl ish words. He took advantage of the popularity of catchphrases too, tothe extent that he invented several of them. The King James Bible was written in a way that went overreal ly wel l with the people . I t also made a lot of headway inrespect to catch phrases.Regardless of the importance of sc ience today, in the 1700sit didnt make much of a dif ference, as i t wasnt consideredimportant . Science demands that things are descr ibed indetai l , so new words had to be invented in t ime with i tsprogress.Br i t ish explorers carr ied out expedit ions to f ind out about therest of the world and look for new countr ies to colonize. Thismeant the Engl ish language picked up even more words.Lexicographers tr ied to standardize Engl ish as to help peoplewho looked up words, to spel l words correct ly . This was ahard task in general , as new words were always beinginvented. According to histor ic record the Oxford Engl ishdict ionary took 70 years to complete and as soon as i t wasf in ished, i t was used as the standard Engl ish dict ionary, being cont inual ly revised and updated.Immigrat ion to America meant that American Engl ish wasopen to a lot of new words. These were treated of course asif they were the nat ive tongue. When Engl ish was used inother countr ies, to an extent they were taken out of theiror iginal context and put into a new one. The new contexteventual ly took over - turning the words cultural backgroundinto something new. As wel l as these words, Americanscame up with many words for their emerging capital istculture . Even as some new Brit ish Engl ish was used in placeof old Brit ish Engl ish, Americans went on with the old Brit ishEngl ish. eg fal l (old Brit ish Engl ish), autumn (new Brit ishEngl ish)In 1972 the f irst email was sent and in 1991 the Internet wasborn, al lowing people to send information back and forth.Typing accounted for many people gett ing repet i t ive strain

4in jury (RMS). A lot of internet acronyms emerged, where a phrase is broken down and only the f irst letter ofevery word is used. Some people came up with words andphrases to mean a specif ic thing. eg fai l , epic fai l As a matter of fact , In terms of dif f icul ty, compared withother languages, Engl ish is pretty easy. The grammar isquite easy to deal with but the spel l ing can be hard tof igure out . Rule out trying to learn spel l ing rules. I t shouldbe pointed out that because Engl ish has gone through somuch change no one can put out useful and comprehensiverules for spel l ing, i f you are about to spel l a word, keep thisin mind. Words can be broken up to an extent , butpronunciat ion dif fers a lot between each word.
