The Convention on Cluster Munitions became on 1 August 2010 .

100 countries are States Parties which means that they have promised forever to ban the production, use, export and transfer of cluster munitions, to clear the land, destroy stockpiles and attend to the rights and needs of victims.

During the 1970’s war in Vietnam more cluster bombs were dropped on Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam than all the bombs dropped in Europe in the Second Wold War.

Many remain embedded in the farms, forests, streams, and walk-ing areas to this day and cause new accidents to innocent childrenand adults. Bombs dropped in the 70’s kill people today. Laos and Cambodia were very prominent in calling for a ban on cluster munitions in 2006 and 2007. Laos in 2008 was one of the first signatories to the new Convention on Cluster Munitions. Sadly Cambodia did not join and we are still waiting for good news from them, Vietnam and all of Asia except Japan and Afghanistan who with Laos lead the way.

CMC is a group of national campaigns and NGOs who have campaigned since 2001 to eradicate cluster munitions. They were mo-tivated by the suffering these bombs and sub-munitions inflicted on innocent people.
