CARBONE CLIMBING THE CHARTSSenior QB Joe Carbone sits among the top in several career records at Stony Brook. The Wethersfieldm, Conn., native enters the Richmond game ranked third in career passing attempts, fourth in career completions and passing yards and tied for fifth in passing touchdowns. He is 10 completions away from moving up to third, 206 attempts from moving up to second, 401 passing yards away from sliding up to third and three passing touchdowns from moving up to fourth.

LIOTINE CRACKS THE TOP 10Senior RB Donald Liotine sits seventh in Stony Brook’s career all-purpose yards list with 2899 yards entering the Richmond game. He has 1922 rushing yards, 169 receiving yards and 808 kick return yards. Liotine needs seven yards to move into sixth and 264 yards away from fifth-place.

BLOCK AND TOUCHDOWN, AGAINStony Brook’s special teams have blocked six punts for touchdowns in the past three-plus seasons, including one against Bryant on Sept. 8. The Seawolves accomplished this at USF and against Sacred Heart in 2017, against North Dakota and William & Mary in 2016 and at Rhode Island in 2015.

PICK SIX, TWICE...MAKE THAT THRICEStony Brook has returned three interceptions for touchdowns this season. Against Bryant, sophomore DB EJ Fineran tipped a pass and proceeded to scamper 79 yards for the touchdown in the second quarter, while junior DB Damarcus Miller did him one better and snagged a pass on the five-yard line and took it to the house, 95 yards later as time expired in the fourth quarter. Junior DL Jordan Scarbrough got into the pick-six game against Fordham when he picked off a pass and scampered 25 yards for the score.

LONG RETURNSJunior DB Damarcus Miller and sophomore DB EJ Fineran had interception returns for touchdowns against Bryant and both cracked the record books in the process. Miller’s 95-yard return is the third longest pick-six in school history and the longest since Ernie Williams’ 99-yarder against St. Francis on Nov. 17, 2001. Fineran’s 79-yard pick-six is the fourth longest pick-six and fifth longest interception return in the program’s history.

Since becoming Stony Brook’s head football coach in the spring of 2006, Chuck Priore’s tenure can be described as an usher. He’s ushered the Seawolves through two conferences (Northeast and Big South), and for the past four seasons, CAA Football. During that time, Priore has ushered the program to the upper echelon of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), guiding SBU from 20 scholarships to a fully-funded program of 63 scholarship, the maximum allowed at the FCS level.

Under Priore’s leadership, Stony Brook posted a number of firsts - a win over a Football Bowl Subdivision (Army), a 10-win season, an at-large berth to the Division I Football Championship and produced the Seawolves first NFL player when Will Tye joined the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent and enjoyed a very successful rookie campaign.

In Priore’s previous 12 seasons at the helm of the Seawolves, SBU has collected at least five wins, including a pair of 10-win season (2012 and 2017) and a nine-win season in 2011.

The 2017 campaign might have been Priore’s best work yet. He and his staff helped guide Stony Brook to a 10-3 season, a 7-1 record in the CAA Football standings and a return trip to the FCS NCAA Division I Football Championships. The Seawolves were ranked in both polls for the final five weeks of the season and peaked at a program-best No. 10 for back-to-back weeks in the STATS poll before 11th in both final polls.

The Seawolves, who finished second in the league in 2017 with just one loss and received an at-large bid for the program’s third overall appearance and the first since 2012. Stony Brook placed 11 on the All-CAA Football teams, including four first-team offensive players and four second team honorees.

In 2016, Priore’s 11th at the helm of the Seawolves, Stony Brook posted a 5-6 mark, including four CAA Football wins. The Seawolves opened the season with a thrilling home victory over No. 19 North Dakota and followed it two weeks later with a commanding victory over second-ranked and defending CAA Football champion Richmond in Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.

In 2015, the Seawolves posted a 5-5 record and went 3-5 in the CAA, including a 31-6 victory at home over No. 13 New Hampshire, the highest ranked opponent Stony Brook has even beaten. Priore’s squad had to overcome numerous injuries to reach .500, but were highlighted by the CAA’s Co-Defensive Player of the Year and All-America DE Victor Ochi. Ochi anchored the SBU defense that ranked first in the FBC is yards allowed with 250.1 and once again among the nation’s best in scoring defense.

During the 2015 season, Priore reached the 100 career wins milestone as a head coach. Stony Brook defeated Rhode Island, 19-7, in Kingston on Nov. 14 to accomplish the feat.

Priore ushered Stony Brook to the upper echelon of Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). In 2012, the Seawolves hosted and won a playoff game and advanced to the second round of the Division I Football Championship.

The season featured a number of milestones - Stony Brook beat Army, 23-3, for its first win over an FBS program; Miguel Maysonet finished as the runner-up for the Walter Payton Award, given to the nation’s most outstanding player, was named to a program-record seven All-America Teams and became the first SBU football player to be invited to the NFL Combine.

Stony Brook, which won a program-best 10 wins, moved to the Colonial Athletic Association, considered the “SEC” of FCS football.

For his efforts, Priore was named AFCA Regional Co-Coach of the year, and earned a contract extension through the 2020 season.
