Local RoutesThe nearest National Cycle Network route is Coast and Castles North (Edinburgh to Aberdeen) – Route 1 and there are numerous routes to follow in the local countryside.

AberdeenFamous for its stunning, sparkling, granite buildings, a place where the harbour meets the city centre, spot the resident pod of dolphins playing in the waters, enjoy a beach stroll or do some serious shopping.

Enjoy Stonehaven’s 50m long pool and lido full of cleaned sea water and maintained at 29°c.

The beach is great, especially early in the morning when there’s a variety of water birds to see - we also saw seals!

Go to Aunty Betty’s ice cream shop, it is amazing.

St Cyrus beach is a must.

Rods and boats for sea fishing can be hired at the harbour.

The Carron fish and chip shop serves the best fish supper we’ve had.

Visitor’s top tips

Peterhead prison is fascinating.

There are good bus services to Aberdeen so definitely go and visit if you have the time. The maritime museum and art galleries in Aberdeen are good.

Dunnotar castle is well worth a visit. We walked from the site, route is well signposted from the harbour. Take a picnic and enjoy the views.

A well-located site to explore Aberdeenshire. Stonehaven is nice to walk around with independent shops, historic attractions and a harbour.
