DENTAL SUCTION IS USED
TO REMOVE SALIVA AND
OTHER DEBRIS DURING
DENTAL PROCEDURES.
TRADITIONAL VALVES
ARE MADE OF METAL,
PLASTIC AND RUBBER.
HVE VALVES ARE LARGE

THE MAJORITY OF DENTAL
OFFICES CLEAN THE
EXTERIOR SURFACES OF
BOTH VALVES AND
TUBING'S.
CLEANING METHODS
INCLUDE SPRAYING OR
WIPING HARSH CLEANERS.
THESE DRY OUT &
DETERIORATE
PERFORMANCE OF ALL
NON-METAL SURFACES.
DID YOU KNOW?
EVACUATION TUBING'S ARE
RARELY CHANGED DURING
THE LIFE OF A DENTAL
CHAIR. THESE SHOULD BE
CHANGED EVERY 2 YEARS!
The interior surfaces of evacuation valves and tubing’s require cleaning. 1 method
of interior cleaning is flushing the lines w/detergent. IT IS NOT ENFORCED
resulting in inconsistencies from office to office. It’s why so many valves clog, are
hard to move and why backflow is a major concern.
Fact: only 23% of the offices RINSED or DISINFECTED their suction lines in
between patients. In other words – 77% do NOTHING!
To view study facts:

Metal Valves have maintenance guides instructing users to disassemble, scrub
and autoclave “routinely.” Unfortunately, most offices do not remove the
valve, resulting in dirty valve interiors, poor performance and cross
contamination risks.
Fact: in 2014, U.S. Veterans Affairs Dental Clinics implemented protocol
Requiring each valve be disassembled, scrubbed and autoclaved between
patients. Or, they can choose to use Disposable Valves.
SO WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL? INTERIOR SURFACES OF VALVES ARE A PETRI-DISH OF
PATIENTS WHO CAME THAT DAY, THAT WEEK AND THAT MONTH UNTIL SOMEONE
FLUSHES THE LINE AND DISASSEMBLES, SCRUBS AND AUTOCLAVES THE VALVE.
Fact: Blood, debris, saliva, amalgam, chemicals, disease (HIV, Hepatitis,
etc.) & anything else that gets sucked into the valve STAYS THERE unless
the valve is disassembled, scrubbed and autoclaved!
“MY OFFICE FLUSHES THE LINES DAILY”…WE HEAR THIS RESPONSE OFTEN. WHAT
HAPPENS TO ALL THE PATIENTS IN BETWEEN PATIENT (1) AND THE NEXT DAY?
THE BELOW IMAGE IS A SALIVA EJECTOR VALVE - FLUSHED DAILY.
Fact: You cannot remove built up debris only by “flushing” the lines. Only
“scrubbing” can remove debris.
DID YOU KNOW – WHEN PATIENTS CLOSE THEIR LIPS AROUND THE SALIVA
EJECTOR TIP AS SHOWN BELOW, 21% OF THE TIME BACKFLOW MAY OCCUR.

STOMA DENTAL INTRODUCED NEW DOVE DISPOSABLE HVE
AND SE VALVES. (Disposable Oral Valve Evacuation)
ELIMINATE RISK – USE DISPOSABLES
SALIVA EJECTOR CONVERSION:
Saliva Ejector Metal Valves connect via a tailpiece as shown below.
DOVE Disposable Saliva Ejector Valves will most likely fit all of the Saliva
Ejector Tailpieces sold in N. America.
DOVE VALVES ARE EASY TO USE:
Simply pull off the existing metal valve from the tailpiece and snap
into place a DOVE Saliva Ejector
Note: If the connection is hard to separate, this most likely is due to O-ring
deterioration, saliva residue & other fluids built up between the connections.
Inconsistent flushing or poor maintenance will make these connections
difficult to separate the valve / tailpiece.
Below is an example of O-ring deterioration, saliva residue and other fluid
build up. These make it extremely difficult to separate. We suggest
upgrading connections like these.
WHEN TO UPGRADE THE SE Tailpiece?
NEW Stoma Dental SE Tailpiece TP2001
HVE VALVE CONVERSION:
HVE Valve conversion is dependent on the valve “manufacturer” that the
office is converting.
DOVE Disposable HVE Valves will only snap on ADEC Dental Chair Units.
All other chairs will require a NEW HVE Tailpiece.
CONVERTING THE HVE Line
ADEC Units, simply pull off the existing metal valve from the tailpiece and snap
into place a DOVE HVE Valve.
There are many variations of HVE Connections in the N. American Market.
These connections are easy to upgrade. Follow these easy steps:
CONVERTING NON-ADEC HVE Valves
We offer 2 Tailpiece adapters to convert the majority of dental chairs in the
N. American market. The next page overviews these…
CONVERSION FOR HVE Valves
NEW Stoma Dental Wide HVE Tailpiece TP2000W Fits Dental EZ, Engle, Marus, Pelton and Royal/Promo.
NEW Stoma Dental Standard HVE Tailpiece TP2000 Fits Adec, Belmont, Forest, Midmark, Ritter and TPC Dental Chairs
HVE VALVE CONVERSION:
Certain Dental Chairs have “Long-Neck Valves” that hang from the “Neck
Portion” of the HVE Valve.
At this time, we suggest the dental office upgrade the dental unit arm to
accommodate larger tailpieces or the office opts to push the tubing into
the small hanger position (as shown)

SAFE: Regardless of the cleaning protocol, a “METAL” valve cannot be deemed
clean unless the following steps have been taken. Removal from the line,
scrubbed/flushed, disassembled, autoclaved, reassembled and then seal/covered
until the next patient arrives. Disposables are tossed & safe!
PERFORMANCE: All “METAL” valves break down. The levers stick, they lose the
swivel and have multiple O-rings that must be lubed. DOVE Valves are NEW each
use and take less than 5 seconds to replace!
PATIENT SATISFACTION: Its no secret that patients are apprehensive about dental
visits. Reassurance that steps have been taken to assure a safe visit go a long
way!
EFFICIENT: METAL Valves have a cost to maintain, wipe, flush, lube, etc…No staff
member enjoys cleaning a valve. We hear stories about scrubbing them and the
residue goes everywhere. Disposable valves can cost as little as .20 cents per
patient and do not breakdown!
Why Disposables?
Q & A What material are the DOVE Valves Manufactured by?
ANSWER: The DOVE (HVE and SE) Disposable Plastic Valves are manufactured in an ISO Facility. They are
infused with an antimicrobial.
My office likes to recycle; can I recycle the DOVE Valve?
A DOVE Valve contacts blood and other fluids. According to the CDC, this is considered medical/material waste.
By comparison, metal valves require plastic sheaths / bacterial wipes / aerosol sprays / flushing detergents
/electricity to autoclave / water to rinse, scrub and sterilize. These have an environmental footprint that can
easily match a plastic valve.
Where are the Valves Made?
ANSWER: The DOVE product line is Made in the USA.
Since DOVE Valves are plastic, are they durable?
ANSWER: DOVE Valves are very durable. To date, we have not encountered a breakage of a valve reported by
any of our 1,000’s of users over a 2 year period.
Our office had a difficult time removing our metal valve to install the DOVE Valves. Is it hard to convert?
Unfortunately, lack of cleaning the connection between the Metal Valve and Tailpiece will result in a very difficult
to remove valve. The reason; blood, debris, and other fluids build up between the connections. Interior O-rings
will be useless making the swivel and ease of removal very difficult. Once removed or cut off, it will hopefully be
a red flag. Below is image of this scenario:
Are DOVE Valves easy to install?
ANSWER: If your office has separated the metal valve from the tailpiece connection as instructed by metal valve
manufacturers, you will find it very easy to install DOVE Valves.
For Saliva Ejectors, simple separate the metal valve and tailpiece by pulling apart. Replace with a DOVE Valve. For
HVE Valves, we fit all ADEC connections or provide 2 tailpiece offerings to adapt to the majority of N. American Dental
Chairs.
Are DOVE Valves expensive?
ANSWER: DOVE Valves are designed to be clean each use. To offer the same cleanliness in a metal valve offering,
the cost would be much more expensive. Retail costs for the DOVE Valves are $2.49 each for a Saliva Ejector and
$2.80 for a HVE Valve. By comparison, to provide a 100% clean metal valve, costs exceed $3.00 per valve. This cost
was confirmed by Public Sector representatives inside the Veterans Affairs Administration.
If the office only wipes the exterior surfaces between patients and flushes daily, the valve cannot be deemed clean.
This is not an apples to apples comparison.
Lastly, it brings into the argument backflow. It is a significant patient risk that the CDC warns against if patients close
their lips around the tips of the saliva ejector aspirator tips, backflow can occur, where anything inside the valve can go
back into the patient’s mouth.
Is it safe to re-use my DOVE Valves?
Stoma Dental DOVE Valves are disposable. We strive to increase office safety standards, alleviate poor performing
instruments and provide patient confidence with use of DOVE products. The plastic quality of the valve is excellent.
We have spoken with users who re-use our valves daily. These users are claiming to adhere to cleaning/autoclaving
protocol between patients.
Q & A continued..
Q & A continued.. Are Disposable Valves practical to replace between patients:
Replacement of a new DOVE valve takes approx. 5 seconds (per valve). By comparison, metal valves
differentiate and vary with different cleaning methods. Unfortunately, the results usually mean the valves are not
clean vs using clean disposable valves. See below for metal valve cleaning protocols:
**please note an instrument cannot be deemed clean unless it is disassembled, scrubbed and autoclaved EVERY
usage. (I.E. wiping will not clean the interior components and flushing daily overlooks all patients between flush
cycles)**
Where is the DOVE Saliva Ejector Valve Trap?
The DOVE Saliva Ejector Valve Tray is not necessary. A trap is used to catch larger debris prior to contacting the
small moving parts on the interior of the valve. Once contacted, debris will build up over time either clogging the
valve or clogging the on/off lever.
These parts clog components over time and will quickly ruin the metal Saliva Ejector. DOVE Valves DO NOT
break down. HVE Valves do not have a Trap because parts are larger and the likelihood of clogging is not as high.
Please note, both use the same vacuum.
