Dear Delegates,

As you read this, your rst EYP experience has

probably reached its end. Tomorrow morning, you will be returning to school and most de-

nitely encounter a dozen questions from yourfriends about what you did this weekend. Whatwill you answer? That you spent the entire week-end discussing current European political issuesfor school? In that case, how do you explain thatyou had fun at the same time? Do you tell themabout the Big Fat Pony? No, EYP cannot be ex-plained – it has to be experienced rst hand.

Our respective rst sessions left a mark in our

lives – a mark that was soon accompanied byfurther marks, more sessions. We hope thatthis weekend has worked the same for you, andthat you are eager to further explore the world of European Youth Parliament.

As of today, the 7th National Session in Stock-holm marks the beginning of your personal EYP

journey, of which today’s Closing Ceremony isnot the end, but only the end of the rst chapter.

 Yours truly, Your Editors,

Elsa Horn a Rantzien

& Gusta Danielsson

How did you become head-

organisers?

Katarina: Neither of us had any-thing to do during our gap year,so when a call was put out forHead Organisers we decided toapply.

Paula: I also needed to chal-lenge myself with something Icould not possibly give up on. Inour social sciences classes weused to joke about how horribleit would be if we actually had tohead organise a session togeth-er - but it turned out to be theperfect task.

I you did a mission impos-sible on the delegates, what

would it be?

K: I would smash a carrot cakein a delegates face.

P: I would make the Delegatesfollow Kajsa around for a wholeevening, which would be rather

dangerous for them.

Describe your utopia:

K: An EYP world where every-one dances to Disco Pogo withbrownies in their hands.

P: Always being able to sleepat night, to experience daylight

for once and no religion in theworld.

What is your worst night-

mare?

K: That the VP, Fredrik Bauer, would eat all the resolutionbooklets.

P: That I wore a pink bra with a

black dress during GA with thestraps showing. This representshow much Martins Dambergshas affected me.

What actor would play your

character in a movie?

K: Paula, simply because we livein symbiosis.

P: Tom Felton, the guy who playsDraco Maloy.

What is your avourite way to

say goodbye?

K: A simple ‘bye’ followed by ahuge hug.

P: ‘Hate you too.’

What is the unknown in your

“Destination Unknown”?

K: What I would like to do after the session is nished.

P: What I am supposed to dowith my life.

What is your lie motto?

K: I hate mottos.

P: Shit happens when you partywith Martins.

What kind o advertisement

would you use to promote

each other?

K: Paula is a weird douche.

P: Kajsa can be used as an ex-cellent alarm clock in the morn-ing. She is a mean bitch.

What has been your avourite

part o the session?

K: Getting the chance to, nally,

sleep three hours during Satur-day.

P: Hanging with my organiser.

At the 4th Istanbul Youth Forum,a delegate had lost track of theGeneral Assembly debates. In-tending to give an attack speechon the topic of gay rights, shegot on stage while the topic of international terrorism was de-bated. Realising this very crucialmistake halfway through her

speech, she altered her text todefend the rights of gay terror-ists saying thatgay terrorists are people too andshould be supported as they area minority within the world of ter-rorist organisations.

However, failing in general as-sembly should not be your onlyfear if you have an identical twinbrother. Not just for the obviousreason that nobody can see thedifference, but things can getreally messy - like it did at the1st Iberian Youth Forum. Oneout of two twin brothers was a

real menace and trashed thehostel at which they were staying one night. When he was told thenext morning that he would besent home from the session, heclaimed to be his twin brother.Just imagine the reaction of thetwin brother when he was kickedout of his room the next morn-ing.

If you thought the previous storywas the worst possible, youthought wrong. It can be wayworse. A Dutch ofcial at the

International Session in Swedenin 2009, tried to iron his shirtwith hot water and steam froma showerhead. He forgot it wason and left the room. After an

hour, there was half a meter of water in the room, it was leak-ing through the ceiling, and there alarm went off. The entire

hotel had to be evacuated; theentire oor ruined. Now, two

years later, despite the still ongo-ing lawsuit, this ofcial is still

an active and appreciated EYPalumnus.

When you think that the European Youth Parliament

is just loads o un, think again. Tim Keegstra and

Mehmet Can Burdu give you three reasons why.

Do you ear

How to get involved in EYP Sweden

First of all, we strongly want to encourage you tocontinue your involvement in EYP Sweden. Withyour participation in Stockholm 2011, you havealready become an ofcial member of its alumni

network. Now, there are two ways of staying in-formed about events and developments of EUPSverige.

Firstly, if you haven‘t done so yet, you should signup for the ofcial newsletter on www.eup.se (“Ny-hetsbrev“). It is published monthly and contains

information about the National Committee as well

as upcoming events throughout Europe, to whichyou can apply either as a delegate or an ofcial

(organiser, journalist or chairperson). Since some

sessions are announced with rather short notice, always watch out for the latest updates on thewebsite.

Secondly, you will very soon receive an invitationfrom your Local Committee – EUP Öst, Väst or Syd.They all have their own representatives who are

your immediate personal links to EYP in both Swe-den and Europe. Your Local Committee will keepyou informed about local meetings and events.

How to explore EYP throughout Europe

Not being selected for an International Sessioncertainly does not mean that your EYP journeyhas to end here. You can still attend internationalconferences hosted by other National Commit-tees throughout Europe. With over 100 sessions

that you can apply to every year, you will denitely

nd one that suits you. As already mentioned, EYP

Sweden always provides up-to-date informationabout upcoming events, but you should also check

the www.eypej.org website and its “EYP Calendar”.

Besides International Sessions there are many

different events organised: Every country organ-ises its National Session similar to this one. Someof these countries allow foreign delegations andyou can always apply as a journalist or chairper-son. Then there are Regional and InternationalForums that, just as International Sessions, gatherdelegates from many different countries, but areslightly smaller.

Everything must come to an end. That includes thissession. After three long days, the nal moments

are here. It has been an intense weekend, and, in

true EYP spirit, lots of new friendships have beenmade. Hopefully you have all enjoyed the conceptof EYP and are sad that it is time for us to part.Being at a session is like living in a bubble - vastlyapart from the outside world. Because of this, inthe end, leaving the session can hit you rather hard. The sudden emptiness when you no longer haveover a hundred people around you, nding that nor-mal life does not fulll all your needs, or just feeling

as if something is missing, are only a few symptoms

of what EYPers have come to call PED, Post EYPDepression.

To deal with PED, Facebook has proven to be oneof the best medications. Use the resolution booklet

to nd the full names of your new acquaintances

so you can add them as friends. Then add all yourpictures of the session and look through the pic-tures that others have added again and again andagain. This will bring some comfort to your heartand sooth your pain.

Another aid to getting over PED is to get involvedin the National Committee of EYP Sweden and toattend more sessions, both in Sweden and abroad. How to do this is addressed at length in the articleprevious to this one. No matter how you choose todeal with your PED, know that this weekend wasonly a welcome, a welcome to the world of EYP; only

the beginning of your long journey; only the rst of

our several encounters.

Noticed the pleasant scent of creativity, coopera-tion and high IQs while walking through the cor-

ridor of committee rooms? Well, this was coming from EMPL II.

What EMPL II has accomplished so far is dazzling. After all, with their very interesting and eclectic

backgrounds, they seemed to complement eachother right from the beginning. It is not everydayyou meet a person who met the vice presidentof Gambia, can juggle six balls or has once beendead for ve minutes.

The amount of creativity EMPL II demonstratedshould denitely not go unnoticed. I mean, who

would have thought of making a miniature bike forsnails or a self-disciplining candy box out of a pen,a coke can, a tape holder and a bracelet?

Moreover, EMPL II - as the word committee implies- was wholeheartedly committed to their topicall along. It was the rst time I saw a committee

passionately discussing their topic at the veryrst coffee break of the day, before they had even

ofcially started working with their Chairs. What

is even more rare was their genuine enthusiasmwhile doing it. In fact, as I entered the committeeroom, I found them shouting “I AM HERE AND I AM

HAPPY!”- seemingly for no particular reason. Withthis dedication, I will not be surprised if EMPL IInot only solves the unemployment problem, butensures world peace and nds Nemo while they

are at it.

Mehmet Can Burdu presents

EMPL II

What denes EMPL I? Most of all: communication.

Think back to every crisis you have seen in yourfavourite television series and lms. In the lm

Hancock half a city is destroyed before a solutionis found, in the series House M.D. almost everypatient has to be on the brink of death before asolution is reached. Why? A lack of open com-munication. However, with the attitude of EMPL I,crisis becomes a myth.

“What? Crisis? What is that? Oh, no that is some-thing people had trouble with in the pre-EMPL Iera.”

The level of cooperative initiative in EMPL I is veryhigh; they assign discussion leaders themselvesand make sure everyone is heard. However, thiswas not always the case. During the early stages

of Teambuilding it did not seem as consensus orother form of agreement would ever be reachedin discussion. Through their struggles and throughcritically reviewing their own work, they improvedbeyond imagination to a point where it seems asif struggles had never been there. In the words of actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger,

“Strength does not come from accomplishment. Your struggles develop your strengths. When yougo through hardships and decide not to surrender,

 that is strength.”

Following this logic, EMPL I has become thestrongest of all.

FEMM represents everything that is extraordi-nary about today’s youth. From their introductionto Commitee Work it was obvious that thesebright students really believe that they can makethe world, or at least the EU, a better place.Nothing is impossible for them, not even nding

three midgets from the school building or turning an orange into a tennisball. Besides being inno-

vative they also have artistic skills varying frompainting a perfect copy of Mona Lisa to writing catchy songs.

Although they sure know how to have fun, theyalso know when to be serious and how to treatproblems with tolerance and tact. Not being afraid to admit their mistakes makes them theperfect team for their Chair persons Aleksand-ers and Joe who can just sit back and enjoy thebeauty of good arguments and productive work. All the FEMMs might not yet know what will betheir unknown path in the future, but previousqualities give me a reason to be sure that theywill y very high.

Sini Hyytiänen presents

EMPL IIIEveryone knows the orange game: you pass anorange using your neck and chin. The idea of the game is to create physical closeness and theability to react immediately to others’ body move-ments. Through trial, error and lots of laughter,EMPL III succeeded and did something quite rarefor this game - made up a strategy allowing them

to pass the ”orange” quickly and condently. Even

in risky situations, they found ways to break thelaws of physics to keep the ball from falling. Quicktwists of the body caught the ball and brought itback up to safety. It is obvious that there is some-thing very special going on in EMPL III.

The session has created a group that is not afraidto get up close and personal. Important qualitiesfor Committee Work such as persistence, the abil-lity to quickly grasp new facts, teamworking skillsand strategic innovation are traits of the Commit

tee members. So ”Ready, Set, Go!”. All the in-gredients for very interesting Committee Workare there, in the Delegates themselves. EMPL3holds huge potential to write and defend a verycompetent resolution, and judging by the amountof ideas during brainstorming, they are denitely

going in that direction.

As our delegate Fredrik said: ”Its good to aim for

the stars because if you follow, you will end up in the clouds”. I am sure EMPL III will y very high.

Have you ever heard of Illuminati, Speedos orCandyman? These three are just a small, but stillprecious parts of a new hip hop group formedon Friday, the 4th of February 2011. Although

the name has not been ofcially decided yet, the

rumor says that Dirty Captain’s Crew is the mostprobable one.

With a little help of their executive producer, Mrs.Fluid, fourteen energetic members managed toovercome all the difculties in building a proper

team before entering the musical industry. Atsome point the future of the Crew was threatened

by ingenious business plan proposed by Sikea.Fortunately, they quickly realized that their musicis much better solution for the world than fakeIKEA products. Before they will be able to entirelydevote themselves to their awaiting career, theyneed to solve some very demanding Europeanproblems concerning organisations such as Wikile-aks. Having observed their intense debate I am

condent that they will manage to provide us allwith a great resolution. The Dirty Captain’s Crew’srst video will be out soon, so make sure to follow

us on Facebook. You do not want to miss it!

“Dirty Captain’s crew”

The Committee on Civil Liberties thrives to inte-grate the Romani people into the European Un-ion – here is something about the people behindthese goals.

Guided by their beaver game-loving chair Feliciathis Committee takes prejudices and crushesthem with astounding ease. Even their Finnish

journalist, the only non-Swede in the Committeehad to back out of his superb jokes on Swedesfrom the night before and admit that Finland hasyet again another reason to secretly admire Swe-den. The entire Committee’s capability to reallylisten to others while all the time everyone being actively a part of the conversation even took theirChair by surprise.

Not being able to hold their smiles while fellow

Committee members tried to seduce them justshows that the previously timid members of LIBEhave nally found a place where they cannot help

but enjoy each other’s company. The productiveconversation with the expert on their topic hintsthat the resolution will be a strong and well-grounded one.

Their affectionate and determined attitude to-wards their topic and the whole session has mademe truly appreciate and look up to the whole Com-mittee with their food stains, chewing gum skills, and the way they do their hair. They will denitely

manage to abolish the stereotypes of the Romanipeople.

Welcome to ENVI-land, where happiness is agolden rule, along with smiling, respecting othersand being open minded.

Cooperative, seductive and inclusive are the bestwords to describe this well assembled group of tof-

fees. ENVI might be one of the most social Com-mittees I have ever seen. Their instant connectionand passion for their topic is astonishing. TheseDelegates are truly dedicated.

They have come together from every corner of Sweden, from Norrland to Skåne to this Destina-tion Unknown, the 7th National Session of EYP

Sweden. Covering an age span of 15 to 18, theymade use of their differences and complementeach other as if they where soulmates - whichI strongly believe some of them are. Althoughvarious personalities are represented - a ninja, skier and a whole lot of non-Spanish speaking

youngsters - they have managed to build a strong and united Committee. So strong that their stickytoffee was almost unbreakable.

It has been a true pleasure being their Journalist. Iam sure there will be a lot of envy(i) towards them,

however, if you could follow their principles youmight just get a VISA to ENVI-land.

AGRI“Well, what would you think if I told you I was 30?“

As both John and Anastasiia are deeply convinced, age is just a number – personality and commit-ment counts. And names of course.

Having gathered from as far as Turku, the Skånetrain-changing metropolis Hässleholm and evenRingsted - which certainly lightens up my quarter-Danish soul - AGRI enjoyed their position as themost international Committee of the session.

Becoming increasingly united, AGRI collectedplenty committee anthems by having everyone in-troducing their favourite songs. One of them mighteven be related to agriculture: Will‘s original contri-bution. “Take a line, take a line of cocaine!“

Certainly, those 13 Nordic individuals are capableof solving problems of literally vital importance,

such as satisfying the many stakeholders andpreventing the European population from immedi-ate starvation after 2013 – even if the CAP indeedmight “suck“.

Dear Greta, Marigona, Harald, Erik, Tuomas, Blad,Oscar, Will, Cecilia, Karin, Christina and Mette, I

denitely owe you and your visions – having beensmoothly united in only one and a half days – areverent applause. AGRI, EYP is happy to welcomeyou.
