Because your blower is ahigh-speed, electric power tool, special safety

precautions must be observed to reducethe risk of fire, electric shock and personal injury.

It is important that you read, fully understandand observe the following safety precautions and

warnings. Save this owner’s manual andread the safety instructions periodically.Be thoroughly familiar with the controlsand the proper use of the equipment.Know how to stop the unit and disen-gage the controls quickly.Careless or improper use of any electricblower may cause serious or fatal injury.Have your STIHL dealer show you howto operate your electric blower. Observeall applicable local safety regulations, standards and ordinances.

Minors should never be allowed to use ablower: Bystanders, especially children, and animals should not be allowed in thearea where a machine is in use.Never let the unit run unattended.

Do not lend or rent your machine withoutthe owner‘s manual. Be sure that anyone using your unit understands theinformation contained in this manual.

Most of these safety precautions andwarnings apply to the use of all STIHLblowers. Different models may have different parts and controls.

See the appropriate section of yourowner‘s manual for a description of thecontrols and function of the parts of yourmachine.

1. the operator2. the blower 3. the use of the blower.

You must be in good physical conditionand mental health and not under the influence of any substance (drugs, alcohol, etc.) which might impair vision, dexterity or judgment. Do not operate ablower when you are fatigued.Be alert - if you get tired while operatingyour machine, take a break. Tirednessmay result in loss of control. Workingwith any blower can be strenuous. If youhave any condition that might be aggravated by strenuous work, checkwith your doctor before operating the machine.

Clothing must be sturdy and snug-fitting,but allow complete freedom of move-ment. Avoid loose-fitting jackets, flaredor cuffed pants, scarfs, unconfined longhair or anything that could be drawn intothe air intake.

Wear overalls or longpants to protect your legs.Do not wear shorts.

Use of gloves when working with the blower isrecommended.

Good footing is most important. Wear sturdyshoes with nonslip soles.

To reduce the risk of injury associatedwith the inhalation of dust, use a face filter mask when using your blower in dusty conditions.

Proper eye protection is a must. Even though thedischarge is directedaway from the operator, ricochets and bounce-backs can occur during

blower operations.Never operate a blower unless wearinggoggles or properly fitted safety glasseswith adequate top and side protection which comply with ANSI Z 87.1 (or yourapplicable national standard).

Blower noise may damage your hearing.Wear sound barriers (ear plugs or earmufflers) to protect your hearing. Conti-nual and regular users should have theirhearing checked regularly.

!&

For illustrations and definitions of the blower parts see the chapter on "Partsand Controls"!

Never modify a blower in any way. Onlyattachments supplied by STIHL or expressly approved by STIHL for usewith the specific STIHL blower modelsare authorized. Although certain unaut-ho-rized attachments are useable withthe STIHL blower, their use may be extremely dangerous.

'(&)!&

Special precautions for electric blowersmust be observed to reduce the risk ofpersonal injury and property damagefrom fire and electric shock.

When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Only authorized personnel should repair or replace dama-ged cords. Never attempt unauthorizedrepairs or open the powerhead.

The voltage of the power supply mustagree with the voltage specified on the blower’s machine label. Improper voltage will damage the blower and maycause personal injury.

Be sure switch is off when plugging theunit into the power supply in order to reduce the risk of fire or electrical shockfrom arcing and the risk of injury from unintended blowing.

In order to reduce the risk of serious injury from electrocution, never use your

blower if the power supply cord or plugis cut, cracked, worn or damaged.

Have a dealer replace such a power supply cord.

To avoid electric shock, donot use the blower indamp or wet locations. Donot use on wet surfaces.Do not expose to or use in

rain. To reduce the risk of electric shock,do not handle the plug or the unit withwet hands.

When using the electric blower, alwayskeep the power supply cord behind you.Always ensure that your power supplycord does not become entangled with obstacles or objects. Damaged cablesmay cause electrocution. Always disconnect the plug from the powersupply when you take a break.

To reduce the risk of electric shock useonly extension cords that are intendedfor outdoor use.Do not use damaged extension cords.Examine extension cord before usingand replace if damaged. When using anextension cord, be sure to use oneheavy enough to carry the current yourtrimmer will draw. An undersized extension cord will cause a drop in linevoltage resulting in loss of power andoverheating. The table on page 4 showsthe correct size to use depending oncord length and machine label ampererating.

For minimum wire size for extensioncords for *+$, appliances using 6-10 amps see page 4.

Appropriate extension cords are available in special stores for electricalequipment. Cords should be suitable foroutdoor use and marked "Suitable ForUse With Outdoor Appliances - Store Indoors"

To reduce the risk of electric shock, thisappliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plugwill fit in a polarized outlet only one way.If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install

the proper outlet. Do not change theplug in any way.

To reduce the likelihood of disconnectionand the risk of electric shock, always attach the extension cord to the blowerusing the retaining flap on the handle asshown in the chapter entitled "Starting“in your owner’s manual.

Avoid damage to the power supply cord.Keep cord away from heat, oil and sharpedges. Never carry blower by powercord or jerk power cord to disconnect theplug from the wall outlet. To unplug, grasp the plug not the cord.

Always switch off the motor before putting down blower. When transportingyour unit in a vehicle, properly secure itto prevent turnover and damage to themachine.

Always check your electric blower forproper condition and operation beforestarting, particularly the power supplycord, plug and switch.

Inspect the power supply cord and plugbefore and after each use for signs of damage or aging.

-

Your blower is a one-person machine. To reduce the risk of eye or other injuryfrom thrown objects, do not direct airblast towards bystanders, since the highpressure of the air flow could injure eyesand could blow small objects at greatspeed. Insure that bystanders are at least 50 feet (15 m) away during use.
