Most of you have a job to doinvolving science, regulation,or resource management.…or something other than havingto maintain mapping data.



To do your job you need geospatialdata that can match the sophistication of your technology.…or even drive that sophistication.



The NHD promised to be the datathat would match your needs. It would “raise the bar” on mappingtechnology.



That has been very successful.There are hundreds of examples ofhow the NHD has advanced the science...but it’s a moving target.


Mapping exists in an age of technology where powerful analysis never before possible is at our fingertips.



The limiting factor is not the technology, or the access to technology, but rather, the capability of the underlying data.

So how do we make the mappingdata achieve its full potential?

We create a good solid frameworkof base data and then continuouslybuild on that through a communityof stewardship.


Why a community of stewardship?

It’s the only way we can access thedrive, the knowledge, and theresources to make it happen.


Our job is to make the communityof stewardship fully functional.

This conference is the opportunityto bring the community togetherand ensure that functionality.


We will do this for both the WBD and the NHD
