Centre.
• 1990 Stevenage Housing Support Group: All
Saints Pin Green – Chris Foster & team.
• 1992/3 Winter Haven opens at the Glebe rent
offices.
• 1995 The Winter Haven opens in Frobisher
Drive.

• 1996 The Haven starts as an all year night shelter.
• September 1997 Stevenage Haven registered as a charity.
• October 2003 Chris Foster House opens in Ditchmore Lane as a night shelter.
• January 2004 Day Services started with 24 hour opening all year round.
• September 2005 Haven 2 opens.
• May 2006 ‘Counsel House’ opens.
• April 2007 Supported Lodgings Project starts.
• May 2007 Garden makeover opens / Hostel smoke free.
• September 2007 Secure & Settled Project starts.
• February 2008 Havens 3 through 6 open.
• January 2009 Springfield 1-4 and The Annexe open.
• June 2009 2nd Floating Support Project starts.
• January 2010 ‘It’s Your Move’ Tenancy Training starts.
• May 2011 Haven 7 opens.

DAY SERVICES
Move On Accommodation
Shelter & Support for Single Homeless People
• Move on accommodation provided in
partnership with Stevenage Borough
Council.
• Haven 2 opened in October 2005
• Accommodates 4 ex-residents with
support.
• Shared maisonette, own bedroom
with shared kitchen and bathroom.
• Havens 3-6 opened February 2008
• 2 one bed flats & 2 bedsits.
• Single person self contained units
for ex-residents in full time training,
education or work.
Move On Accommodation
Shelter & Support for Single Homeless People
• Move on accommodation provided in
partnership with a local Charity and
Stevenage Borough Council.
• Springfield 1-4 opened January 2009
• Accommodates 4 ex-residents.
• Self contained cottages with shared
garden. Kitchen/lounge/diner,
bedroom & bathroom.
• Haven 7 opened May 2011
• Accommodates 3 ex-residents.
• 3 bedroom house with shared
lounge, kitchen/diner and bathroom.
Floating Support
Shelter & Support for Single Homeless People
• ‘Secure & Settled’ project commenced September 2007,
27.5 hours per week. Further Grant funding required.
• 3 year ‘Floating Support’ Supporting People contract
started June 2009, 25 hours per week.
• Provides proactive Floating Support to ex-residents of
Chris Foster House in their own homes.
• Provides enhanced Resettlement Support from Chris
Foster House.
• Prevents repeat homelessness and secures client
tenancies in the community by providing support and
problem resolution before tenancies are threatened.
Possible Future Projects
Shelter & Support for Single Homeless People
• New Hostel Build: providing a purpose built
hostel with additional bed spaces, all having
en-suite facilities, and sufficient rooms to
support day services and training.
• Move On Accommodation: increasing the
available move on housing stock by working
in partnership with other providers.
• Floating Support: increasing the hours
available.
• New Rent Deposit Scheme: making access
to private rented accommodation possible for
clients.

• 23 full & part time staff
• 7 sessional workers
Volunteers & Trustees

• 20 volunteers of all ages from all walks of life.
• Drivers – Thurs-Fri (4.30-5.30pm) or Saturday
(5.45-7.15pm) for Marks & Spencer food pickup.
• Skills sharing – Afternoons Mon-Fri e.g.
gardening, cooking, arts & crafts, IT, sports
participation.
• Lunchtime – Midday-2pm – lunch preparation
and socialising.
• Evening – 7-10pm – helping staff and
socialising.
• Professional e.g. hairdressing, counselling,
chiropody, keep fit.
