About Us
The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare is a major national agency established under the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare Act 1987 as a corporate Commonwealth entity to provide reliable, regular and relevant information and statistics on Australia’s health and welfare.
The Housing and Homelessness Reporting and Development Unit is responsible for reporting on homelessness support services and housing provided to Australians in need. The Unit is also responsible for supporting states and territories to develop nationally consistent data definitions for national reporting requirements.
Position Description
The successful applicant will undertake research and publication tasks for the Housing and Homelessness Reporting and Development Unit (HHRDU).
The Housing Assistance in Australia report provides information relating to government-funded provision of social housing, rent assistance and home purchase assistance. The successful applicant will review the data tables in the report and provide recommendations for improvement. The successful applicant will also support the data analyst to implement changes.
The HHRDU is developing a new report that contains key findings from the longitudinal analysis of clients using homelessness support services. This project will focus on increased understanding of the Specialist Homelessness Services Collection data and reporting of emerging priority groups. The successful applicant will undertake data checking and assist with the preparation of the report including interpreting data and conducting research.
Additionally, there will also be opportunities to support data improvement activities through literature reviews and analyses exploration and to provide support of other HHRDU reporting products, for example, the Housing Data Dashboard data updates.

Selection Criteria
Good verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team
Well organised with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines to achieve outcomes
Ideal Degree/Discipline
Statistics, Epidemiology, Demography, Data Science. Health Informatics, Economics or Health Sciences.
Eligibility Requirements
Second last or final year of a relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree
Australian citizens only
Identify as having disability
Candidates may be required to undergo a background check security clearance
