Stephen Sinnott c Human Factors Presentation Testing and Documenting 28 February Stephen Sinnott c Introduction The aim of this testing was to identify the problems that may arise between the user and their interaction with the product. The sections that will be tested are: sowing in the seed trays. watering the seed trays. detaching the seed trays. sowing from the seed trays into larger containers. sowing potatoes and access. harvesting potatoes. filling water container. The testing was by a male measuring 1715mm in height. Stephen Sinnott c Overall dimensions Model Length x breadth x height 1560mm x 1000mm x 1000mm Average heights: Children aged 5 years 1065mm Children aged 10 years 1372mm Adult male years 1920mm Adult female years 1775mm Stephen Sinnott c Sowing and watering plants in seed trays Length x breadth x height 760mm x 375mm x 500mm Stressful on an adults back if standing and lower than ideal height for kneeling. Height will be increased to 610mm for a comfortable kneeling height. Stephen Sinnott c Detaching seed tray Length x breadth x height 660mm x 114mm x 39.50mm The seed tray will be light enough to be transported while full. Seed tray will be roughly 1.5kg while full. Stephen Sinnott c Emptying seed trays Large seed container Length x breadth x height 700mm x 450mm x 200mm Small seed container Length x breadth x height 700mm x 350mm x 100mm Both containers will be raised off the ground 100mm to provide an area for water. The extra 100mm takes a small amount off the strain off the user bending over. Stephen Sinnott c Sowing in potato container Length x breadth x height 760mm x 500mm x 1000mm Height will have to be lowered for sowing and for the children to take part. The first level will start at 500mm and two more levels of 250mm will be added on during the growing process. Problems: Height restricts children from sowing the plant. Height restricts sun light to the plant. Stephen Sinnott c Harvesting door The width of the harvesting door will be increased from 250mm to 500mm and the height will be increased from 250mm to 300mm to allow easier access during harvesting. The door is 50mm off the ground. Stephen Sinnott c Filling water container The top of the water container is 1000mm from the ground. The top of the product would become top heavy and could cause potential danger for young users. The water container will be moved to the underneath of the product for safety and ease of filling. Stephen Sinnott c Conclusion The product has to be adequate for both adults and children to use. The water container will be moved to underneath the product. The whole product will be raised off the ground by 100mm to allow an area for the water container. The seed trays will be increased in height to 610mm. This allows for the seeds to be attended to more easily. The potato container will now come in three sections instead of one section with a door.
