celebration, Stephanie Cain (30

and an editor at The Knot) and

Vikram (Vik) Venkatraman (31 and

an entrepreneur) put a fashion-forward

twist on tradition over the course of two days.

“We wanted to incorporate a hint of old-

world glamour, since Indian events tend to

involve a lot of sparkle,” Stephanie says

of the stunning celebration. Aside from two

separate ceremonies, the lavish nuptials

included a black-tie reception, four venues,

five dresses, one malted-milk-shake-and-

French-fry-flavored wedding cake and a

missing pair of shoes. “My cousins stole Vik’s

shoes from the mandap during our ceremony

and held them for ransom,” Stephanie says of

the wedding tradition. “He finally got them

THE COLOR PALETTE:

the bridal style Stephanie’s red and gold, sari-inspired reception gown set the tone for the couple’s wedding aesthetic, since it was the first dress she purchased. The statement-making design featured hand embroidery, while the groom’s black-and-white dinner jacket was made using silk brocade fabric from India. the hair For one of the looks, the bride wove jasmine flowers throughout her braided bun for a twist on a South Indian bridal hairstyle. the baraat Vik arrived to their Hindu ceremony in a red convertible adorned with bold yellow and orange blooms. the shoes Friends signed the bottom of Stephanie’s glitzy heels for good luck, a Greek custom suggested by a close friend at the bridal shower.
