Please help your child to have success on the test by making sure they get enough sleep at night and eat a good, healthy breakfast each morning. This exam measures the knowledge and skills your student(s) should have acquired by the time they reach each grade level. Please encourage your son or daughter to take the test seriously and do the best they can. The results of these tests will be used to help school staff make determinations or placement in classes to best support your child(ren). 8TH GRADE AWARD CEREMONY - JUNE 2 The 8th grade award ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 2, 8:30-9:30 a.m. and will be held in the Washington Street gym. Parents are invited to attend this special ceremony. Parents are welcome to take their 8th grader home after the ceremony. Please sign them out in the office. Parents, please note: All fees (book deposit, laptop warranty, library fines, and projects) & end-of-the year fines must be paid before an 8th grader will be allowed to participate in the award ceremony. SPRING FLING - SPECIAL 8TH GRADE DANCE One final HURRAH for the eighth grade class! The eighth annual Spring Fling Dance for the eighth grade class is on Friday, May 12, 2017, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Middle School Spring Fling is NOT a formal dance like students will experience in high school. It is simply a time for 8th graders to celebrate their final year in middle school and enjoy being together. We encourage the students to dress like they would when participating in a middle school concert or attending a nice play. We very strongly discourage extremely formal attire. There is no expectation to purchase an additional outfit or have a student miss school the day of the dance to prepare for this night. If a student is out of school for any part of the day without a doctor’s excuse, they will not be allowed to attend the dance. DRESS CODE:

No short skirts or dresses, bare midriffs, halter-tops, bare backs, low cut attire or anything else we deem inappropriate will be allowed. If there are any questions about the appropriateness of an outfit, please bring the outfit to school before the dance to be approved or choose an alternate outfit to wear. Note: We will have a supply of sweaters or shirts on hand for students to wear who are not dressed appropriately when they arrive that evening.

No bare feet. Students will be required to have something on their feet for the duration of the dance. We truly appreciate your help with this expectation.

We really want to see all students at the dance and having a good time. A student will become ineligible to come to this dance if they receive an in-school or out-of-school suspension, have police intervention, or have excessive tardies/absences from Friday, April 7, 2017 until the evening of the dance. Tickets will go on sale the week before the dance and will cost $5. Parents who are interested in helping with decorations, making food, chaperoning, etc. should contact the Washington Middle School office at (920) 848-4463. We are looking forward to a great evening!

NWEA TESTING FOLLOW-UP In addition to the Forward Exam, students in 6th, 7th, & 8th grades will be taking the third round of computerized assessments (tests) to determine student strengths, weaknesses, and educational growth during the 2016-17 school year.
