Greater Southern Tier BOCES 2012 Summer of Innovation – Objectives Matrix

The following measurable objectives align with and advance the regional MST Connect Coalition’s vision of creating a regional STEM pipeline that results in college and career ready students who are rich in STEM skills. Engagement

75% of students will self-report an increase in STEM-related interest, motivation, and/or awareness as measured by pre- and post-survey data and facilitator observations.

75% of students will increase their capacity (knowledge and /or skills) for advancing to increasingly rigorous content in STEM disciplines as measured by 21st Century Fluency Rubrics, science notebooks, and facilitators observations.

50% of students that participated in 2011 Summer of Innovation will return as 2012 participants XX% of students will participate in more than one Summer of Innovation 2012 offering.

Program-Centered Objectives

66% increase in overall student participation compared to 2011 attendance. XX% increase in the number of students from traditionally under-represented groups (i.e. gender, ethnicity) compared to 2011 attendance. XX% increase in the number of partner agencies compared to 2011.

100% of programmatic offerings will include a public display of student learning. 100% of programmatic offerings will have explicit connections to STEM and the NYS Common Core Learning Standards.

50% of programmatic offerings will develop a Tier II experience.

Process-Based Objectives:

1. To create and implement a student database to monitor the project’s long-term implementation. 2. To create and utilize a standardized registration form for all programmatic offerings, regardless of location. 3. To create and utilize a standardized template for collecting design information about proposed programs. 4. To create and implement a common student / parent survey to assess program success. 5. Provide programmatic opportunities at no cost to families.

Summer of Innovation 2012Academy Proposal form Dear Summer Academy Instructors, It’s hard to imagine that it’s that time again to start the planning process for this summers “Summer of Innovation 2012 Summer Academies”. This summer we plan to again offer Summer Academies to students in our GST BOCES region. As part of the planning process we’ve designed a Summer Academy Proposal Form for each potential academy instructor to complete. All academy proposal forms will be reviewed by a Summer of Innovations sub-committee for approval. Included in the proposal form is information outlining criteria that must be included in the design of each academy. Please complete the Summer Academy Proposal form and submit it to [email protected] by March 9, 2012. Summer Academy Criteria(**All Summer Academies must include the following criteria in their design.) Utilization of the Project Based Learning (PBL) instructional model for the delivery of instruction in each academy.The blending of the following Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S.T.E.M.) / 21st Century fluencies into the design of each academy:▫ Link each academy subject matter directly to a multitude of careers.▫ Builds participants reasoning abilities. (predicting, hypothesizing, evaluating, problem solving, collecting data, building/constructing, designing solutions, measuring, testing▫ Programs are inquiry based, hands-on, experiential, relevant and practical to real world applications.▫ Programs create a “sense of community” among the participants▫ Collaborative partnerships with representatives from business and industry.
