UNLIKE YOUR RELATIVES, EVERY FISH GIVES YOU SOMETHING.

WHETHER YOU CATCH THEM, LOSE THEM OR SIMPLY SEE THEM BELOW

THE SURFACE, YOU REMEMBER THEM. AND SO THE ACT OF FISHING IS

ALSO THE PROCESS OF ACCUMULATION. GATHERING

EXPERIENCES. COLLECTING MEMORIES TO SHARE WITH

FAMILY AND FRIENDS. AMASSING LURES, HATS, FLIES,

PHOTOS, T-SHIRTS – EVEN BOTTLE CAPS FROM CARIBBEAN NATIONS. OKAY,

AND YES, MAYBE A FEW OF THE RODS YOU’LL FIND IN THESE PAGES.

If you ever find yourself in Park Falls, make sure to stop by our rod-building facility. You’re more than welcome to watch some of the impressiveprocesses that go into making a St. Croix rod so special. Chances are you’ll not only gain a profound appreciation for what actually goes into

making a St. Croix rod, but you will be inspired to go out and fish. Now.

Exactly how hard is it to come to work each morning and surround yourself with fishing

gear? Rods, reels, hats, t-shirts. Could be worse, that’s for sure. Which might go a long way in

explaining why for over 65 years, St. Croix has weathered all manner of economic times.

Leading the way in technological applications coupled with a commitment to handcrafts-

manship, St. Croix has not only survived but thrived. Thanks to our commitment of putting

engineers together with rod designers, fishermen have enjoyed such breakthroughs as St.

Croix’s exclusive ART™ and IPC® technology. Of course, rod performance is only as good as

the design behind it – and rest assured, before we even think about sending a rod through

for production, we make sure we spend as much time as necessary in the design department

to assure that every St. Croix rod is engineered and developed to outperform all others.

PEOPLE AROUND HERE HAVE A LOT MORE TO BE PROUD OFTHAN JUST THE PACKERS. ALTHOUGH THAT’S HIGH ON THE LIST.

We are always pushing the outer limits of new manufacturing technologies. We use the latest in CNC (Computer Numerical Control) technology to turnour own aluminum and plastic trim pieces, windchecks, shims and other rod components. This allowsus to tightly control the precision and quality of everypart while increasing efficiency in our work flow. It’s about as high-tech as you can get – and producesa better, more consistent product, every time.

MANUFACTURING

IPC,® ART,™ TET, FRS and the many other design and manufacturing technologies and protocols that go into building the most advanced fishing rods on earth didn’t come about by accident – or by trial and error. We use sophisticated CAD programs like 3D Solidworks in thedesign and modeling of every rod, handle and custom component part to achieve the ultimate level of precision.

It takes experience, dedication and talent to handcraft a premium-performance fishing rod, and St. Croix’s team of expert rod builders are the best in the business. It takes over 30 pairs of hands to completethree-dozen different steps in the manufacturing, assembly and finishing of a St. Croix rod. Whether that takes place at our headquarters in Park Falls, Wisconsin – or our state-of-the-art factory in Fresnillo, Mexico – each rod is a product of the passion and attention to detail of the talented people who make them.

After several years of R&D and testing,

St. Croix has perfected an innovative new

Taper Enhancement Technology (TET) that

begins with precision-cut, curved blank

patterns made possible by a state-of-the-art

computerized pattern cutting machine.

When combined with IPC-mandrels, these

unique patterns create blanks with better

actions and improved sensitivity. This

pattern design and cutting technology is

a dramatic departure from traditional

straight-line patterns cut by hand. TET will

debut in the all-new Legend Xtreme series.

Developed exclusively by St. Croix, Integrated Poly Curve®

(IPC®) tooling technology has rapidly become the engineering leader in rodmaking. Designed to eliminateall transitional points in the rod blank, IPC-engineeredrods feature smoother actions, increased strength and greater sensitivity.

ART™ layers

ART™ is an exotic carbon fiber material that adds amagnitude (10X) of strength with virtually no increasein blank diameter or rod weight.

IPC® blanks have a moreuniform wall thicknessfrom tip to butt

Non-IPC® blanks have distinct transition points

Engineering/Technology:When you set out to uncover what makes a St. Croix different from other rods, you need to look no further than the engineer sitting right beside the rod designer. It’s a partnership that’s produced

such breakthroughs as St. Croix’s exclusive Integrated Poly Curve® and Advanced Reinforcing Technology.™ Rod performance is only as good as the design behind it – so before we even think

about sending a rod through for production, we spend as much time as necessary in the design department to ensure that every St. Croix rod is engineered and developed to outperform all others.

Integrated Poly Curve® (IPC®) Technology

Illustration above is an exaggeration to demonstrate the difference between IPC and non-IPC blanks.

Advanced ReinforcingTechnology™ (ART™) Taper Enhancement

Technology

Introduced in 2013, St. Croix has broken new ground in premium rod manufacturing technology with the development of our Fortified Resin System (FRS), which combines a fortified super resin with new computer operated curing ovens that provide improved temperature and time management through all stages of the curingcycle. FRS prevents microbuckling by keeping the carbon fibers in proper alignment. Blanks manufactured using this advanced manufacturing protocol test out consistently to be 33% stronger than those built with standard resins and curing methods. Rod series manufactured with FRS include LegendXtreme, Legend Elite,Legend Tournament Bass/Walleye/Musky, Legend Inshore, Legend Surf, Legend Salt, Bank Robber, High Stick Drifter – and the new LegendXtreme Inshore and Legend X.

Fortified ResinSystem

Advanced Reinforcing Technology™ (ART™) is an exotic carbon fibermaterial that adds a magnitude (10X) of strength with virtuallyno increase in blank diameter or weight. ART significantly improvesthe hoop strength of the blank by preventing it from deformingor “ovaling” under a severe load, such as a powerful hook set.ART is also a critical part of our slim-profile ferrule design.

If there is any one thing that we’re most proud ofhere at St. Croix, it’s our service. Nowhere else willyou find such dedication to fishermen. Becausewhen you invest in a St. Croix rod, we believe youalso invest in a relationship with us. And we’ll doeverything possible to ensure your complete satisfaction. We stand by our craftsmanship withsome of the finest warranties in the business.

Service and warranty policies:

The“Action” of a rod is determined by where a rod flexes along the blank. Faster action rods flex mostly

near the tip.Moderate actionrods flex morenear the middle of the blank.Slower action rods flex downinto the butt section.

The “Power” of a rod refers to how much pressure it takes to flex the rod. Different rod powers areengineered to efficiently handle a certain range of lure

weights and line sizes. To select a rod power thatwill perform best for you, simply narrow your choicesto rods designed to castthe weight of lures – andsizes of lines – you’ll fishwith most often.

OCCASIONALLY YOU FIND YOURSELF FORCED INTO A SOCIAL SITUATION

THAT INVOLVES MAKING CONVERSATION. WITH POLITICS AND

RELIGION OFF THE TABLE, YOU HAVE TWO CHOICES: YOU CAN BE THE

DWEEB WHO TALKS ABOUT WORK, OR YOU CAN TALK

ABOUT FISHING. UNFORTUNATELY, THE POPULARITY

THAT COMES WITH EXCITING TALES OF MUSKY HUNTING

AND BASS THUMPING MEANS YOU NEED A PRETTY EXTENSIVE

CATALOG OF MATERIAL. THERE’S ONLY ONE WAY TO GET THAT AND

THANKFULLY, IT INVOLVES HAVING A ROD IN YOUR HAND.

To paraphrase Theodore Roosevelt, it’s not the size of the fish in the fight, butthe size of the fight in the fish. You have to figure Teddy would have had hiseyes keenly focused on our new Trout Series spinning rods. Like the popularPanfish Series, our new Trout rods offer the perfect blend of weight, sensitivityand balance. Both series serve up incredibly dialed-in, specialized performancefor fish that require the utmost finesse and delicacy.

Let’s take a moment and thank genetics. And, because it’s a well-known fact muskyfishermen possess above average intelligence, combined with a knack for vanishingfor long lengths of time, it’s nice for us all that genetics does the work of passing thatintelligence down. You’ll still have to do the honors of handing down the intelligenceon the premium SC II graphite blanks and top-grade components that make up thePremier® casting rods. Be sure to let them know they are not only fast, light and loadedwith genuine fortitude – but have earned a bit of their own honor over the years, too.

OVER THE COURSE OF TIME WE’VE COME UP WITH MANY WAYS TO

MEASURE OUR SUCCESS. MONEY. FAME. THE GREENNESS OF OUR

LAWN. FORTUNATELY, THOSE OF US WHO’VE TASTED

THE SALT AND CAST A LINE OUT OVER THE WATER

HAVE MUCH MORE SIGNIFICANT BAROMETERS TO

JUDGE OUR WORTH. BECAUSE, QUITE FRANKLY, THERE IS NO LAWN

THAT TASTES AS GOOD AS FRESH CAUGHT, LIGHTLY SEARED WAHOO.

The middle school hallway. The Red Zone. The checkout line at Costco.® There areplaces that test your wherewithal – but none as decisively as the inshore saltwaterarena. Venture in there and you better be ready to man-up. It might also be a goodidea to carry one of our new LegendXtreme® Inshore rods. Hyper-performancerods for intense inshore fishing. Loaded with proprietary technologies, built onhigh-modulus SC VI and SC V graphite blanks and finished with cutting edge fittings, these are the rods you go to when you’re intensity level hits high tide.

The dedication required of an accomplished surf angler can sometimes stand inthe way of life’s other obligations. Like actually making a living, for example. Still, some would argue putting food on the table by dragging it out of the sea withyour hands is a more sustainable way through life anyway. Of course, when wesay hands we mean ones holding onto a Mojo Surf rod. A combination of strongSC II graphite and weight-saving surf guides, these hardcore surf rods are perfectfor anyone who is guided by nobler things than chasing the almighty dollar.

Ask Kelly Galloup to design a fly and rest assured it will be meaty. Ask him to help develop a fly rod and you can bet it will be meaty as well. The Bankrobber™ is simply theultimate streamer-fishing rod for chucking big, weighted flies effortlessly, but with the precision of a Tomahawk missile. Likewise, with a special light-weight tip, the High StickDrifter is designed specifically for today’s advanced nymph fishing. The unique tip reducesangler fatigue when the rod is held high for long periods of time, while emphasizingsensitivity for better strike detection. Both rods lead the way in their categories.

Few pursuits have inspired as much passionate writing as fly fishing; this catalogbeing no exception, of course. There are books about flies, books about casting, exotic locations and selecting gear. And that’s even before we get to the whole section of fly-fishing poetry. Before long there will be a substantial volume coveringthe Rio Santo series rods. Built in our Fresnillo facility, they offer a smooth, moderate-fast action that is a pleasure to fish – at all skill levels. And, outfitted with qualitycomponents from tip-top to reel seat, they are a justifiable source of inspiration.

ICE ROD STRIKE INDICATOR SYSTEM – HOW IT WORKS:

St. Croix’s strike indicator system is adjustable, so its sensitivity level can accommodate different lure sizes. To make the bobber more sensitive, push the spring forward through the grommet. To make it less sensitive, push it back. (illustration no. 1)

The system is most sensitive when there is a 30-degree bend (position2) in the spring. To find the bottom, lower the jig until the indicatorreturns to position 1. Then, either slowly reel up once or lift the rodslightly until the indicator is back to position 2. (illustration no. 2)
