A Messagefrom our Board Co-Chairs
The sentiment behind those words is at the heart of the YWCA
movement and the work that we do.
It also captures the spirit of partnership that led us towards a
successful co-chair model that has allowed us the opportunity to do work that we believe in and serve the YWCA Lethbridge & District well. As we reach the end of our two-year term we have
been able to reflect on the experience and hope that we have given as much to the movement as it has given us.
This past year, changes in funding have created both challenges and opportunities for the organization. The Amethyst program for example, was nearing the end of its funding cycle without
certainty for continued financial stability. Fortunately, we had the opportunity to share the Amethyst vision at the 100 Women Who Care Event and were chosen as the successful recipient of that
evening’s donation. Not only do we appreciate the support from the community that evening, but the additional support we received for several months to follow truly made a difference to
that program as well as the women and families it serves. Together we can do so much more.
Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.
~ Helen Keller
4
On a national level we had the privilege of attending the first-ever
YWCA Day on the Hill in Ottawa. Over 120 YWCA staff and volunteers from across Canada stormed Parliament Hill to advocate for affordable housing for women and families. YWCA
Canada was successful in its ask that 25% of National Housing Strategy funds flow to projects and services for women, girls and their families. The strategy highlights support for initiatives that result
in new and repaired shelter spaces, targeted research on women’s housing needs and improved housing affordability and safety through a human rights-based approach to housing, and more.
Together we can do so much more.
We also want to thank our Board members. You have been tireless
and passionate in your efforts. You have laughed and cried…sometimes at the same time! You have provided profound perspectives regarding advocacy and decision-making. We love
you for all this, and know that the Board will continue to support our incoming Chair with the same care and commitment. Together we can do so much more.
And, even though our roles our changing as Jaylene serves as Past-President and Jessica joins the YWCA National Board, we remain
committed to the organization and the community of women it serves on a local, national and international level.

A Messagefrom our CEO
Every day, violence against women and children plaques our
society and remains a grave social issue. Extreme violence is frequently echoed through the stories of the countless women and girls that seek services from the YWCA.
Reflecting on the last year, we have been met with the challenges of a growing City, and the growing need for services not only
within our city limits, but throughout Southern Alberta. The need for additional services as well as increased space for current services, especially second stage housing, is critical to the change required
to end the generational impacts that violence against women produces.
YWCA Lethbridge and District continues to provide opportunities for women to be leaders in shaping social and cultural directions to achieve equality and equity for all. We continue to take bold
strides in advocacy for women and children, empower our community and the individuals we serve in leadership and provide safe and necessary programming.
Our organization embraces difference and diversity continues to work on strengthening our competence with the FNMI community,
LGBTQ+, Immigrants and vulnerable populations. We continue to promote and advocate for healthy communities that are free from violence. YWCA Lethbridge and District is committed to being a
strong voice for women and girls with a focus on strength, wisdom and character that come from the balanced development of the whole person in mind body and spirit.
8
As we enter our 70th year of the YWCA’s existence in Lethbridge,
we commit ourselves to excellence in programming; building our capacity through knowledge and skill development; honouring the core values of our association and providing quality and inclusive
service to our community. YWCA Lethbridge and District supports people when they need it most, regardless of their circumstances, and with support from our partners and community we will
continue to deliver exceptional programs and services to our community and beyond.
I sincerely want to thank our outstanding funders, donors, Board of Directors, volunteers and community for the achievements and the impact that the YWCA has had on the lives of so many.
Additionally, I’d like to extend the most heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff of the YWCA. The vital services and supports that the YWCA offers would not happen without them, they are the true
heartbeat of the organization!
