Chapter-11.1 IntroductionThe purpose of this study was to explore the internet use behavior of students of the university. To achieve this goal a questionnaire survey is conducted. A data collection instrument was developed based on the review of literature. The form of survey to be conducted will depend upon direct interviews with the university students in order to ensure high rate of response. It also helps to ensure the seriousness of the answers given by the interviewees. Moreover, the sensitivity of some questions and the need for clear, sharp and explicit answers to some questions compel the need for personal interview approach.
A survey questionnaire was designed and distributed to gather data for this study. The results indicate a positive attitude towards academic use of Internet by the students. Although there are some differences in terms of students’ opinions on academic applications of Internet, these differences are largely due to the fact that the use of these sites in academic contexts is not well-defined.
1.2 Origin of the report:
This report is a primary requirement for the course IB-504: Business Statistics under our honorable instructor Mr. Abul Khayer at the Evening MBA Program, Department of International Business, University of Dhaka. A survey was carried out to analyze the behavioral pattern of internet usage among university students.
1.3 Sources of Data:
The sample size of the present study comprised of 30 students. 28 of them are the students of Dhaka University from different departments. Other 2 are students from outside of Dhaka university. We choose them by simple random sampling. The relevant information collected from primary sources is collected by survey questionnaire made by me.
1.4 Objective and Methodology:
5
The objective of this study was to explore the internet use behavior of students of the university.
Also, as a result of impossibility of investigating all population, sampling method will be useful to acquire data and information to save time and effort. To ensure the representative of the sample, the sampling should be random. This will ensure that different student groups are included in the sample.
The best representativeness of the sample for the population can be considered as a function of sample size and sampling method. This means that the pre-determination of the sample size is meaningless. So the decision of the sample size should be taken during the carrying out of the survey, taking into account time, effort and fund limitations.
1.5 Limitations of the report:
Aside from the numerous benefits of this now ubiquitous technological tool, the problem of over use and the resulting ‘Internet Addiction’ is becoming increasingly apparent. University students represent a particularly vulnerable group for problem Internet use.
The focusing limitations of this study were as follows: The main limitation of the study is that, most of the students (specially female) did not
want to disclose their information. The number of survey sample size is small, so our findings may not depict the whole
picture. The report was prepared within a very short time considering the topics related to it.
That’s why; it was not possible to demonstrate all aspects of the report.
