RADIO PROGRAMMING PROJECT

The radio station industry is one that allows for flexibility in ones creative goals ,and

desires. However, with that being said, there is a calculated investment that must be planned for

accordingly. This goes with strategic placement and understanding in this industry.

My radio station is "STATIC TOUCH". It is a Electronic Dance Music terrestrial station. I

choose electronic dance music, due to the demographic market that follows this genre. With a

market breakdown of 55% male and 45% female listener demographic, it gives equal opportunity

to freely market to both to advertisers. The college demographic being a key audience with 28% ,

and young adults ages 18-24 being 33% of the makeup. There is an ample amount of

demographics to work with. I choose a terrestrial station, so as to have on air talent to be active

in the community and promote this genre as a cultural make shift for Lubbock, specifically. This

is due in part to Lubbock being generally a conservative town. The station would act as a culture

contrast to the community, and give a refreshing voice in conjunction with the younger audience.

Lubbock also being a large college town with 50.8% male population and 49.7% female

population, the demographics are in line with an EDM station.

The on air talent would be actual Dj's mixing ,and announcing community activities.

They would be heavily involved in marketing at local night clubs, to match the energy and

feeling of the station. They would also be active in social media and blogging on the station

website with regards to social movements in the city.

The station block is for the evening time 7pm-11pm. This block is more suited to younger

listeners, again in line with the demographic of the genre. The spots would thusly be aimed at

younger adults, along with PSA's. The four hour block would be a gradual transition from one

style of EDM, " Pop Dubstep" a fast past style, to a much slower more melodic genre of "

Chillstep." This gradual transition is to mimic a club setting, of high energy to a slower cool

down. This lets the listener transition the energy of their night alongside the station, high energy

at the beginning, and a much slower pace toward the end.
