    FOREWORD

    The tables in this publication contain the plane coordinates for 2s-m inu te

    intersections

    of

    meridians and parallels within the limits of th e State. These

    plane coordinates are based on th e S tate plane-coordina te system established

    by the

    U.

    S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. Th e tables are arranged

    by

    12s-min-

    Ute bands of latitude with the full range

    of

    longitude of the Zone, followed by

    the coordinates

    for

    the next higher band

    of

    latitude. The tables

    are

    also ar-

    ranged by Zone.

    These tables have been prepared for use in mak ing maps. Meridians and

    parallels may be placed on maps constructed on a rectangular grid of the Sta te

    system,

    or

    the grid lines of the system may be placed

    on

    maps constructed on

    a

    projection of meridians and parallels.

    In

    the latter case the grid will not be

    truly rectangular unless the projection has been constructed

    on

    the State

    system. Approximate values of plane coord inates of geographic positions may

    be obtained by interpolation within the tables. In general, this

    is

    not rec-

    ommended, as it is believed to involve more numerical operations than a rig-

    orous computation from th e basic projection tables.
