STATE of MISSISSIPPIDEPARTMENT of ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY
AIR QUALITY DATA SUMMARY
2001AIR QUALITY DATA
SUMMARY
MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY OFFICE OF POLLUTION CONTROL
AMBIENT AIR QUALITY SUMMARY
2001PARTICULATES - PM 10
PM 10 data was collected at three SLAMS during 2001. The arithmetic mean for all three sites was37% of the annual standard. The maximum 24 hour concentration for all sites was 44% of the 24 hourstandard. The State is considered to be in attainment with the PM 10 standard.
PARTICULATES - PM 2.5
A PM 2.5 network consisting of 17 monitoring sites was in operation during 2001. None of the 17 sites exceeded the annual standard. The arithmetic mean of all of the sites was 12.6 micrograms per cubicmeter. There were no exceedances of the 24 hour standard. Attainment status cannot be determineduntil three years of valid data is available.
OZONE
Ozone was monitored at 11 sites and one PSD site from April through October. The dataindicated monitored areas to be in attainment with the one-hour standard. DeSoto, Lee, Hancock,Harrison and Jackson counties are not meeting the proposed eight-hour standard of 0.08 ppm.Attainment designations for the eight hour standard have not been made.
CARBON MONOXIDE
The State's only carbon monoxide analyzer, located in Jackson, indicated no exceedancesof the standards. The State is considered to be in attainment for carbon monoxide.
SULFUR DIOXIDE
No exceedances of the standards were observed at any of the three SLAMS monitoring sites or the one PSD special site. The State is considered to be in attainment for sulfur dioxide.
NITROGEN DIOXIDE
No exceedances of the standard were observed at the two special sites or one PSD site in operation in 2001. The State is considered to be in attainment with the nitrogen dioxide standard.
LEAD
The State currently operates no monitors for lead. The State is considered to be in attainment.
TOXICS
The State currently operates four canister type monitors for volatile organic toxic air pollutantsand carbonyl compounds. The data set for 2001 is not yet available for summary.
ACID PRECIPITATION
The State currently operates no monitors for acid rain pollutants.
