SPOILER ALERT: “Tell me what you know about my company?” If didn’t do your research…the interview STOPS THERE!!! BEFORE YOU DO THE APPLICATION…

Page 4: State farm study guide Oct 2013 - Job Book 29 Oct

INSIDER TIPSTER #45: Before you start filling out any applications and long before you show up to get interviewed…you need to spend a great deal of prep work that starts with their website…their website is a great cheat sheet to acing the application to impressing them at the interview. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you know who they are...what they believe...you will know if this is the right company for you...these are key indicators to commit to memory if you want to convince them that you are right for them...get it? Connect the dots and have a couple of examples of where you have put these values into play in a work setting to help others or be able to talk to what this means to you and the decisions you make... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WOW! THAT'S DEEP! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BUT, IT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GETTING HIRED HERE OR NOT...IF YOU CAN'T/WON'T; THEN THIS IS NOT THE COMPANY FOR YA! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SIMPLE ENOUGH, RIGHT? EITHER YOU WILL SAY: NEXT JOB, PLEASE! OR THEY MAY SAY: WELCOME HOME...” IT'S TOTALLY UP TO YA! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

START HERE AND PROGRESS BACK TO THEIR WEBSITE…SPEND THE TIME…MAKE THE EFFORT…! We debated whether or not to tell you as we didn’t want them to see this and change the way they screen you as we thing we have this wired. But, this is critical for you to know and it goes to show why it is critical you know “who they are…What they do…and…most importantly…why they do what they do that makes them so successful…” When you arrive at the job fair you will be signed-in by a State Farm Rep. This person will ask you: “Tell me what you know about State Farm?” This is the first and the last question that many where asked.

Page 5: State farm study guide Oct 2013 - Job Book 29 Oct

Those who didn’t have a good answer to this question were diverted out of the path to the interview…they never got to see the job posting and did not talk to a HR Rep. They were given a gift bag and sent on their way. Those who could or did answer this question, went on to the interview. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Go through the job description(s) and highlight the skills that they are looking for. Look closely at how they phrase and word the description. These are critical because – you application will be screened, inspected and gone over by a computer long before a live person ever sees it. Write these skills down. Write the key (important) words and phrases down. Now go back to each of your jobs and use this as your main description for each of your pervious jobs.

TIPSTER #124: The more times you use these key words and/or phrases, the more times that the computer will rate you and the higher you are rated, the more like it is that a REAL person will call you for a second interview. Do not expect that a computer will understand that you really did all of the things that the employer is seeking…it can’t…it won’t! Computers are really dumb at utilizing common sense…GET IT?!? In fact, don’t expect an future employer to care enough about someone they do not know, to do your heavy lifting to prove that you have necessary skills or experience…that’s you job not theirs! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- YOUR MISSION STARTS HERE…GOOD HUNTING! =============================================================

USED JOB SHACK INSIDER…STATE FARM

OFFICE REPRESENTATIVE AT STATE FARM Interview Details –After applying online I was emailed by the agent for a skills test. I completed the test then was contacted by email again for a phone interview. THE QUESTIONS WERE:

• Why do you want to work here? • What is a typical day like for you? • Would you have any problems obtaining licenses? • Why do you want to leave your current position? • What is your work style- do you prefer working in teams or as an

individual? • Can you describe your work style? • Why should I hire you? • What salary range are you looking for? • What other types of positions have you been applying for? • When could you start? • How do you define success?

I passed the phone screen and was told to come in for a face to face interview. I don't remember most of those questions but they were primarily sales related. I'm still waiting to hear back from the agent to see if I made it to the next round of interviews. Interview Questions

• Name an accomplishment that you are recently proud of? • Could you mention a time in sales position when you acted

inappropriately? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Page 14: State farm study guide Oct 2013 - Job Book 29 Oct

CLAIMS SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AT STATE FARM Interview Details –Filled out an online application. Two weeks later received an email from HR, so I could take 2 tests. Typical data entry (wpm) and filling in information while listening to a customer call. A week later received a call from recruiter to set up a phone interview. Set up interview for the next week. Recruiter called at the exact time I scheduled. It was a Quick phone interview most of the time she was explaining the position. Interview questions were Go through your resume:

• Why State Farm? • Tell me about yourself. • Tell me about a time you dealt with a unsatisfied customer. • Tell me about a time you mad a difficult decision.....

Etc. Basic behavioral questions. Interview Question –None. All your typical behavioral questions. Just Google behavioral questions and have an example for each one. Reason for Declining –Pay rate was lower than I expected -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CLAIMS REPRESENTATIVE AT STATE FARM Interview Details –I applied online without uploading a resume. I received an email with instructions to take an online test at my convenience but within a specific timeframe (72hours). YOU CANNOT USE A MAC FOR THIS TEST, AND YOU NEED HEADPHONES OR SPEAKERS. Since I only have a Mac Book Pro, I had to go to someone else's house. Online test include a short personality test, data entry as "customers" give you their orders out loud (easy), a few typing speed tests, and several timed logic problems. Then I had a phone interview which lasted about 20 minutes (but only 5-6 questions) The HR rep asked questions like:

• Tell me about a specific time when you had a difficult customer. • Tell me about a specific time when you had to adapt quickly. • Why do you want to work for State Farm? • What's your greatest strength? • Weakness?

Then I had an in-person interview a couple weeks later. There were two HR reps, a team manager, and a section manager present. They asked questions one by one, going counterclockwise. It lasted about 30 minutes and there were at least 15 questions.

Page 15: State farm study guide Oct 2013 - Job Book 29 Oct

Interview Question –I was asked to describe my best working relationship. This was easy: I described how my office manager is a mentor to me, etc. Then they asked "what do you bring to this relationship?" I stumbled a bit on that one. Negotiation Details –No negotiation. $35,000 w/ full benefits starting day one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CUSTOMER-CARE SUPERVISOR AT STATE FARM Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Tempe, AZ - Sep 2012– Reviewed Feb 17 Interview Details –The hiring process was an extensive one, though I believe it is because it was for a management-level position. From first contact to a job offer was approximately two months. The first contact was receiving an e-mail from a recruiter asking me basic qualifying questions, such as salary requirements; willingness to relocate, if required; awareness of call-center environment, inclusive of hours of operation. After that, I was scheduled for a telephonic interview with the recruiter I was dealing with. The questions were straightforward, centering principally on associate interaction and coaching/feedback. The second interview was a panel interview with two operations manager. This interview was conducted telephonically. The managers were friendly and welcoming to any questions I had. They asked more targeted management questions. After a month's wait, the company extended a job offer. Interview Question –One question in particular that I remember centered on why I wanted to leave the position I was in at the time. The question wasn't challenging per sé; it was simply something I hadn't really thought about, other than the standard needs, such as more challenges, different culture, and better pay. Negotiation Details –Although I expected to negotiate (like I did for any other position), State Farm not only met my salary expectations, it exceeded the top end of it by $3,000. I was very impressed. Not because I got more than expected, but because the company didn't do what other companies do: Try to offer the lowest possible in hopes that the candidate does not negotiate. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AT STATE FARM - ACCEPTED OFFER FEB 7 Interview Details –I interviewed mid-January and got offered the position two days ago. I interviewed directly with the agent. She was very welcoming and we were getting along very well. The atmosphere was

Page 16: State farm study guide Oct 2013 - Job Book 29 Oct

clean and there were actually two agents in one office and each one had their own sales reps (about two each). Bring a copy of your résumé. She went through the entire thing with me and asked me about ten intense questions. These were the most questions I've ever answered during an interview LOL. But typical questions...she offered me water and I left really feeling like I got the job. However, she didn't contact me when she said she would so that threw me off. Especially since I sent her a thank you card. I ended up emailing her to see what was up, an she told me she had some more I interviews and would make a decision by the following Tuesday. She stuck to her word and offered me the position. I haven't started yet, but I really hope it isn't hard to reach the bonuses, because that will make this Job definitely worthwhile. Interview Question –Pretty regular questions, just every single question in the book! So be prepared. Negotiation Details –She knew what I was expecting and made a compromise with me offering commission and bonuses. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Great working environment filled with people who care.” Pros – I am always given an opportunity to learn. Every day is a challenge that brings new cases to life. From fires to simple car insurance, this field is always invigorating. Be prepared to learn every day and adapt to any changes that may trip you up at times. =============================================

============================================================== CLAIMS PROCESSOR ASSISTANT AT STATE FARM Interview Details –I applied online, a few hours later they asked me to fill out some questionnaire. I filled that out and sent it back and then a few more hours later they sent me links for tests. One was typing, and then there was customer service/data entry and personality tests.

Page 17: State farm study guide Oct 2013 - Job Book 29 Oct

After that a day or so later they called to set up a phone interview for the next day. Completed that and was told I would hear back the following week. 30 minutes later I got a call for an in person interview. That was set up for 2 days later. I went to that and was told I would hear back in two weeks. Got the job offer less than an hour and half later. I was told I impressed them is why I got a fast turnaround.
