State Championship Milestones
Park View High School has won 14 State Team Championships and 40 Individual
State Champions since 1976.
We have begun a new tradition of recognizing the milestone anniversaries
of our previous state champions.
25th Anniversary of the 1990 Gymnastics Team
•Finished the season placing 1st in the District and 2nd in the Region•Defeated Broad Run in the state final by a score of 103.35 to 103.20•Hall of Fame member Kristi McDonald was All Around State Champion with a score of 34.80 (PV state record)•Kristi also won Floor Exercise with a score of 8.70 and Beam with a score of 8.80•Theresa Cummings placed 3rd in Beam•Theresa Cummings and Kristi McDonald are both Hall of Fame members•Coached by Hall of Fame member Kathleen Dugger and Michele Ritenour, a 6 time state gymnastics champion at Stonewall Jackson High School
25th Anniversary of the 1990 Softball Team
•Came back after losing 5 seniors from the 89 state championship team to win in 1990•Overall record of 18 wins and 5 losses•Northwestern District Runner Up•Region II Champions•4 of the starting 9 players were named to the All District Team and All Region Team•Defeated Lord Botetourt in the title game by a score of 14-9•3 players are Hall of Fame members; Susan Hessanauer Bodmer, Nikki Tinsley Stewart and Pam Freedman Horton•Coached by Hall of Fame members Beth Walker and Greg Mitchell
35th AnniversaryEd KristonWrestling
• The first of 13 PV wrestlers to become state champions
• Wrestling Team – undefeated in 1979
• Placed 3rd in the District in 1979
• Placed 2nd in the Region in 1979
• Advanced to State in 1979
• Wrestling Team – 14 wins and 1 loss in 1980
• Wrestling Team – place 2nd in the District and 5th in the Region
• AA Wrestling State Champion at 155 lbs in 1980
• Coached by Mike Zacchini, Craig Pritcher and Hall of Fame members Ed Scott and Mack Piercy

• Holds 7 AA Virginia State Championship titles
• AA State Champion in Discus for all 4 years at PVHS from 2005-2008
• AA State Champion in Shot Put for 3 years from 2006-2008
• 2005 Discus distance was 139 feet 11 inches
• Current Virginia State record holder for Discus with a throw of 161 feet and 7 inches
• Only athlete in Virginia to win the Discus State title all 4 years in high school
• 3 time Penn Relays Discus champion
• Washington Post All Met Track Athlete of the Year – 2008
• Attended William and Mary on an athletic scholarship
