The Five Day State Level NSS Mega Camp began at Kakatiya University on November

6, 2015. About 200 volunteers, 20 Programme Officers from 11 universities from

Telangana state took part in it. Inaugurating the mega camp University Incharge

Vice-Chancellor T. Chiranjeevulu exhorted the students to cultivate the spirit of social

service. He advised them to practice "each one-teach ten" to achieve literacy in villages

and also to adopt villages to make them total literate. India is not progressing due to

illiteracy and poverty. He advised the youth to respect the great Indian traditions and

culture and strive to restore the past glory of India. Students should concentrate on

society besides personal career, Sri Chirajeevulu said. University Incharge Registrar

Prof. Khaja Althaf Hussaini said that the role of the youth is vital in nation building.

University College Principal Prof. N. Rama Swamy exhorted the volunteers to plant

trees on important days such as birthday and marriage day. Programme Coordinator

Dr. B. Suresh Lal said that apart from "Shramadan", personality development training

classes are being organized by experts for volunteers during this camp. State NSS

Liaison Officer Dr. Satyanarayana Reddy, Prof. G. Benerjee, Prof. K. Sayulu, Prof. P.

Krishnama Chari, Prof. G. Damodar and others took part in the programme.

A One Day Orientation Programmeto the Study Centre Coordinators,Principals and Secretary-Correspondents was organized bythe School of Distant Learning andContinuing Eduction (SDLCE) onSeptember 7, 2015. Addressing thegathering, Prof. Ch. Dinesh Kumarsaid that Higher Educationalopportunities could be provided tothe public at large through distanceeducation. He exhorted them to

strive to provide higher educational opportunities through SDLCE to the studentswho cannot afford to pursue in regular mode . He requested them to motivate thestudents to improve their educational qualifications availing this opportunity. TheSDLCE is offering 55 courses in 167 study centres for about fifty thousand students.Few more vocational are in the pipe line, he said. He answered the queries of thestudy centre incharges. Controller of Examinations, Prof. K. Purushotham, Prof. Ch.Rajesham, Dr. V. Ramchandram, Prof. K. Padmalatha, Dr. S. The Third Endowment Lecture in memory of late Dr.K. Jaya Shankar, Telanganaideologue was held on August 6, 2015 at Kakatiya University. Delivering the lectureon "Institutional Building in Higher Education:Challenges of Leadership," formerDirector of NAAC Prof. V.S. Prasad said that market forces are greatly influencing theagenda of higher education. Education system in India today is huge and diverse. Theimmense size and diversity, increased commercialization, narrow focus of vision andmission are the great challenges to the education system in the country, he observed.He pointed out that loss of autonomy, insufficient resources and ineffective governingsystem, lack of permanent faculty and staff are some of the serious threats the universitysystem is facing now. Expressing concern, he stressed the attention of all stakeholdersto change the situation. Sri T. Chiranjeevulu, Incharge Vice-Chancellor who presidedover the lecture said that there is a need to bring changes in the higher education inview of the changing global scenario. The Second Endowment Lecture in memory of PadmaVibhushan Late Sri KalojiNarayana Rao was held on September 14, 2015 at Kakatiya University, Warangal.Noted writer and Central Sahitya Akademi Awardee Dr. Ampashayya Naveendelivered lecture on "Telugu Mandalikalu Diaelcts of Telugu Language." He statedthat dialects are the spirit of any language. He called upon the Telugu languageenthusiasts to come forward to protect the language from the adverse influence ofEnglish language. There is an urgent need to make serious and collective effortsto preserve it. He observed that the Telugu language has been taking the shape ofhybrid language with English infringing upon the purity of Telugu. He observedthat many Telugu words are being replaced with English words and that Telugumight disappear in the near future if the trend continues. All the linguists shouldpay urgent attention to this matter, Dr. Naveen said. The Sixth Endowment Lecture in memory of Dr. K. Balagopal, Human rights Crusaderfor Just Society was held at Kakatiya University on October 8, 2015 in the Senate Hall.Consultant on Tribal rights at National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD),Hyderabad Dr. Trinadha Rao speaking on the topic "Development of Adivasis - MajorChallenges in Telugu States," said that it is the statutory duty of both the governments torecognize and protect the rights of adivasis ensured under Forest Rights Recognition Act2006. The Governments should stop extending the contours of Industrial and plantationprogrammes affecting the rights of adivasis in the forest areas, he demanded. He wishedthat the governments in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh constitute a monitoringcommittee to monitor the implementation of tribal protective land laws . The democraticspace for decision making in the design of programmes and financial governance mustbe ensured by the tribal and other welfare departments at the level of Gram Sabha.Inclusion or exclusion of groups in the list of Scheduled Tribes must be based on socio,economic, cultural study not based on political promises made during elections, he said.There is an urgent need to protect and develop the relatively undeveloped tribes bygiving special focus and also to oppose anti adivasi programs, projects, policies and law.A book of Dr. Balagopal published by PERSPECTIVES, Hyderabad "Adivasilu, Vidya,Arogyam, Adhipathyam" and another by Dr. Trinadha Rao entitled "Adivasis strugglefor identity" were released. ICSSR Fellow Prof. G. Haragopal said that they are publishingbooks to propagate the ideology of Dr. Balagopal. Prof. K. Purushotham presided overthe programme while Prof. V.S. Prasad, Prof. N. Rama Swamy, Smt. Vasantha Laxmi, SriRamakrishna, Prof. C.Narasimha Reddy and others took part in the lecture programme

Yoga TherapyCamp

A five day Yoga Therapy Camp was held at Kakatiya University from September18-22, 2015. Conducting the camp, International Yoga Master & Founder, OVMOTrust (NGO) from Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Puducherry Sri Vaidya Indrasenji saidthat yoga improves mind and body coordination. While reducing stress and anxiety,it balances low and high energy. Yoga is practised in India from times immemorialand now the entire world is looking at us for this. He exhorted the students andemployees of the University to practise yoga for a fit and healthy life. Practice ofyoga offers a multitude of benefits to every one, he said. Yoga's combination ofbreath and movement can help alleviate social and academic stress. Inauguratingthe Camp, chief guest and Incharge Registrar of the University said that Yoga isscientific. Yoga is conducive to cope with stress and strain of daily life. The UGC ispromoting Yoga in Universities, he added. Prof. G. Damodar, Dean, CollegeDevelopment Council said that Yoga is being practised all over the world includingSaudi Arabia which observed the International Yoga Day recently. Principal Prof.N. Rama Swamy, Yoga Centre Coordinator Dr. T. Savitha Jyotsna, Prof. VVSSarma and fifty others took part.

NSS ACTIVITIES1. Observed Telangana Haritha Haram & Vanamahotsav Week from June 20-26, 2015 and planted 1,35,050 saplings in three districts.

2. About NSS 5000 volunteers have assisted the revenue officials in Godavari Pushkaralu from 14th to 25th July, 2015 in three districts .

3. In collaboration with Dr. M.C.R. Human Resource Development Institute, Hyderabad, organised One Day training programme on"Climate Education Projects" at University Campus on 7th August, 2015 and at SR&BGNR Govt. Degree College, Khammam on19th August, 2015

4. Organized Anti Ragging awareness programmes at different colleges, educating volunteers and students.

5. Observed Sadbhava Diwas on 19th August, 2015 and organized Manavaharam, huge rally with NSS volunteers.

6. Organised awareness programme about Clay Ganesh among the students distributed free of cost.

7. Observed Vigilance Awareness Week from 26th - 31st October, 2015 and conducted Elocution Competition for students.

8. Organised Legal Literacy Campaign Programme during August 2015 involving ten thousand volunteers.

9. One Programme Officer and Three Male and Four Female Volunteers participated in Pre-Republic Day Parade Camp organizedat R.T.M. Nagpur from 08th to 17th October, 2015.

10. One Programme Officer and two Volunteers participated in Republic Day Parade Camp in New Delhi on 26th January, 2016.

Anti RaggingAwarenessProgramme

Kakatiya University and Warangal Police Commissionerate jointly organized an AntiRagging Awareness programme on October 9, 2015 in the University Auditorium.Addressing the students Warangal Commissioner of Police Sri G. Sudhir Babu exhortedthe students to stick to their first priority i.e. studies and keep themselves away fromragging. He advised them to follow the SWOT principle to analyse their Strengths,Weakness, Opportunities and Threats. Ragging is crime and students indulging in itare liable for stringent punishment, which would spoil their future, he warned. Anyact of teasing, humiliation, assaulting, using criminal force, criminal intimidation,wrongfully confining, causing hurt, causing grievous hurt, kidnapping or rape,committing unnatural offence, causing suicide or abetting death would be punishableunder ragging act imposing penalty ranging from 1,000 to 50,000 with imprisonmentfrom six months to ten years. He advised the students to develop positive attitudewhich would pave way for their bright future. Instead of wasting time on unwantedthings like ragging, students should utilize every moment of campus life meaning fullyfor their studies with dedication. They should evolve as good citizens contributing tothe welfare of the society. He also released the anti-ragging poster designed by KU SubInspector of Police Ashok. Incharge Registrar Prof. Kahaja Althaf Hussain said that allstringent measures are being taken to make the University Campus ragging free.University Anti-Ragging Committee Chairman Prof. T. EminentJournalist, Press Academyformer Chairman PotturiVenkateshwar Rao deliveredlecture on "Role of the Pressand Media in ParliamentaryDemocracy." He blamedpoliticians for thedeteriorating values in various

fields including journalism. The parliamentary democracy can only flourish whenpeople start questioning their representatives, he opined. Expressing hope that thingswould improve in the future, he however, said that it is a question when would thishappen. Stating that the impact of social media has increased enormously of late, hesaid that the internet would have an upper hand over the print and electronic mediaby 2019 general elections. He also observed that media which was independent haslost its premise and seems close to power centres now. Media is catering only to thosewho benefit rather than serving society. Sri Venkateshwar Rao also recalled hisassociation with late M.S.Acharya, who was the founder editor of "Warangal Vani"and "Jana Dharma." He showered praises on M.S. Seminar onCompany Act 2013

A Two day Seminar on "Companies Act, 2013 - New Standards for CorporateGovernance" was organized by Kakatiya University College of Commerce & BusinessManagement and Institute of Chartered Accounts of India (ICAI), New Delhi beganon December 21-22, 2015. Addressing the inaugural session of the seminar, formerVice-Chancellor of Kakatiya University Prof. N. Linga Murthy said that the CompaniesAct, 2013 which replaced old Companies Act, 1956 is a landmark legislation with farreaching implications on all the listed and unlisted companies incorporated in India.It would enable the companies to maintain transparency, accountability, disclosure ofaccounts, protection of investors, corporate social responsibility. It also makes womendirector mandatory. This Act has become significant as foreign investors are lookingtowards India as an attractive destination, he added. Speaking on the occasionHyderabad Deloitte Haskins & Sells Ganesh Balakrishnan opined that we have toadapt to the changes taking place in the global scenario. He exhorted the companiesnot to deviate from ethical and moral practices in corporate governance to make "Makein India" a reality. ICAI Warangal Chairman P.V. Narayana Rao said that there areample job opportunities for the students pursued Chartered Accountancy. SeminarDirector Prof. K. Delivering theendowment lecture on "ReserveBank of India-Making adifference to everyday lives"former governor of RBI SriDuvvuri Subba Rao said that RBIpays attention to the voice of thepoor in its every decision . Tomaintain prices stability andgrowth support are the mainobjectives of the RBI. Increase in

interest rates makes the depositors happy, while decrease in the rate make theircounterparts i.e. loan takers unhappy and the RBI has to match these two conflictinginterests. Inflation is regressive for growth which also affects the poor, he observed.Reducing cash in transactions would make the economy more efficient, he said. Peoplehave higher responsibility in detecting and controlling counterfeit currency notes, hesaid. Answering to a question he said that hike in price of onions was not only due toproduction but also distribution problems.
