Welcome to Nevada

Nicole T.

Gambling legalized in Nevada by Governor Fred Balzar.

The first major silver-mining district in the

United States; the Comstock Lode.

On October 26th, the

construction of the Hoover Dam was

complete and the generation of electricity

began.

The first recorded

discovery of gold in Nevada. In Gold Canyon,

near present day Dayton.

The first school was established

in Nevada, located in Isreal Mott’s house in

the Carson Valley.

On November 3rd, woman got the right to vote in Nevada

Pair-O-Dice club opens as the first casino in Nevada; off of highway 91,

present day Las Vegas Strip.

In 1853 Mrs. Allen taught in the first school in the history of Nevada at Isreal Mott’s house. This is the most important development in Nevada’s history because education is extremely important for the future of Nevada. Nevada has to be educated in order to accomplish other developments. Education is a social development because people are learning by interacting with one another and by socializing.

The Hoover Dam

The Hoover Dam is the

second most important

development in the history

of Nevada because it

supplies the state with

water. Without this stable

water supply, residents

would have to move out of

Nevada and not as many

tourists would come. The

Hoover Dam makes

Nevada more than just a

desert.

The Hoover Dam is an economic development because Nevada needs the water supply for survival. The economy needs the water supply of the Hoover Dam in order to exist. It is also an economic development

because it is a tourist attraction.

Page 5: State and Local Governments Project (Nevada)

The Silver and Gold mining are the third most important economic and social developments in the history

of Nevada because both discoveries brought a rush of people to Nevada.

They are economic developments because they brought in money that

boosted Nevada’s economy. They are social developments because they brought people together is a

sort of hobby to search for gold and silver together.

Page 6: State and Local Governments Project (Nevada)

This is the fourth most important development in the History of Nevada

because by allowing women to vote, Nevada was recognizing equal

rights between men and women. This is a

political development because it has to do with

voting for the new politic to take over

office.

Page 7: State and Local Governments Project (Nevada)

Gambling and casinos are the fifth most important developments in the history of Nevada because they are trademarks of Nevada that bring in tourists. The gambling world in casinos is one of the main reasons people come to Nevada. Gambling and casinos are social and economic developments because it brings in money to boost

Nevada’s economy and it brings in millions of people to Nevada!

NEVADA ATTORNEY GENERAL

CATHERINE CORTEZ MASTO

1. Why did you want to work for the public?

2. What was your first election like?

3. What is working for the public like?

4. What do you have to do in order to be reelected?

Unfortunately she never replied to my interview questions. It made me a little upset that she did not take

the time to answer them because I gave her plenty of time to reply as well as I told her the due date of the

project. I also understand that she is a very busy woman and she probably hasn’t had the time to reply to me. I

only hope that if a Nevada resident were to try to contact her with an issue or complaint, that she would take the time and listen to what they have to say and try to fix

the issue with them.

Page 11: State and Local Governments Project (Nevada)

I believe that it takes a lot of strength, knowledge, patience and organization to

be an elected official for Nevada. Nevada is a state that grows so much every day and in order to keep the state affairs in order, a person needs to be very organized. In order to deal with the rapid growth, a

person also needs to have strong patience. I would not want to be a Nevada elected

official because I don’t believe I could deal with the stress of everything that goes on

in Nevada. There are so many issues Nevada is faced with on a daily basis and I don’t believe I have the emotional strength to deal with it all. Like the old saying goes “history repeats itself;” in order to deal with present and future issues, a person has to know the history of Nevada as well as how the officials in the past dealt with

the issues and the expansion of Nevada. To win the American vote, you have to know

what you’re talking about. In order to know what you are talking about, you have

to know your history.
