Focus for 2011Here's wishing you a happy & prosperous Lunar New Year as we wrap up 2010 with aChristmas party for the kids in December & usher in the Chinese New Year with excitingprogrammes lined-up for the next six months!

Inculcating real passion for the art form in the kids - do what you love, love what you do, bethe real you - will be our focus for 2011. Given the situation of the kids we deal with, theyoften have no parents to drive them or guide the & their minders giving divided attention toso many children, led us to think about the 3 hours per week that each child spends with us.

This 3-hours would be the only time to impact them & internalise our motivation & instillthat passion that would remain ignited for as long as they live!

EXPOSURE that turns into EXPECTATION to be met with fervour which then expresses intoEXHIBITION! When you expose a child to the world of opportunities, the possibilities of life, their world of creativity will open up with such resoluteness that the sky becomes their limit. We raise the bar & reinforce the commitment we have in their ability. When we put them inthe spotlight, they have nowhere to escape but to perform. What follows is the validationthat comes in the form of appreciation & applause. This gives them the affirmation to carryon to the next level.

Programmes will be consolidated & bundled according to respective disciplines while weseek to partner you & your organisation as a sponsor for the specifics such as the danceprogramme etc. such as the Yellow Happy Feet.

Do drop us a line to see where & how we can fit you into our plans to bring 2011 to themany kids who will take this year to perform to their level best.

    Yours truly,Josh LeeProgramme Director

    Harvest - Sneetches

Sneetches is a story from books by Dr. Seuss that has important moralvalues, portraying the senselessness of prejudice and discrimination, andalso a lesson of materialism and entrepreneurship.

Wikipedia describes Sneetches as a group of vaguely avian yellowcreatures who live on a beach. Some Sneetches have a green star on theirbellies, and in the beginning of the story the absence of a star is the basisfor discrimination. Sneetches who have stars on their bellies are part of the"in crowd," while Sneetches without stars are shunned and consequentlymopey.

This miracle project would have easily taken 3 to 6 months to conjure up

but it only took 1 month to whip up a cast of 50 kids to sing, act & dance, made possible by supporters, parents & sponsors of Harvest as part of theOutreach Programme 2 (OP2) to reach the urban hardcore poor & refugeeslocated in Sentul. HGH Convention Centre, Sentul is owned by MCA, theMalaysian Chinese Association & this musical is about the segregation &that discrimination is not a virtue.

Annual Teachers Getaway in Kampar, Perak

It was a time for bonding as the teachers at StART ventured beyond the compound of the academyinto the wild for a 3 days/2 nights of planning & evaluating the year for the year ahead. They joinedLeroy, who was once a guitar teacher at StART, now the General Manager at Grand Kampar Hotel, tode-stress over an audacious attempt at caving!

Weaving through the huge stalactites & stalagmites, every teacher had to crawl through frigid coldwaters of the river & guano (bat droppings)! Our guitar/bass teacher, Vincent Ramesh, overcame hisparanoia of heights & of water! There was much input of ideas from all present after getting dunked &plunked into such situations!
