Pr epar e t he si t ePlanning t he proper locat ion and layout of t he Hit achi AMS 2500 st orage unit is essent ial for it s successful operat ion. The sit e where you inst all t he st orage unit can affect it s performance. For example, equipment placed t oo close t oget her or in an inadequat ely vent ilat ed area can cause over-t emperat ure condit ions. I n addit ion, poor equipment placement can make t he rear panel inaccessible.To ensure normal operat ion and avoid unnecessary maint enance, plan your sit e configurat ion and prepare your sit e before inst allat ion. The sit e you choose for t he Hit achi AMS 2500 st orage unit should: Be fairly cool and dry for t he accept able t emperat ure and humidit y ranges: Maximum t emperat ure: 104 F ( 40 C) Relat ive humidit y ( non- condensing) : 8% t o 80% Be free of st rong elect romagnet ic field generat ors ( such as mot ors) , vibrat ion, dust , and direct exposure t o sunlight . Provide a st urdy, level surface t hat can support t he unit . A fully populat ed unit weighs approximat ely 4,686 lbs. ( 2, 130 kg. ) . Be wit hin six feet ( 1. 82 met ers) of a power out let . Allow for at least six inches ( 152. 3 mm) of space at t he front and back of t he st orage syst em for vent ilat ion. Not place t he unit next t o, on t op off, or below any device t hat generat es heat or will block t he fee flow of air t hrough t he unit s vent ilat ion slot s.Figure 1- 1 on page 4 shows t he inst allat ion and service clearance area for t he Hit achi AMS 2500.
