March 31, 2019– 4th Sunday of Lent

The father in the Gospel today never stopped

loving his prodigal son and he never stopped hoping and believing in the latter’s goodness. The same is true about God our Father. How assuring and how consoling to know that we are loved, understood and forgiven by God at any moment of our lives, in whatever situation.

We rejoice in the middle of the Season of Lent in

anticipation of the glory of Easter which leads us to real

rejoicing and full restoration of life. Let’s take courage that

our faith is about a God who sees more our efforts and not

our faults, who sees more our goodness and not our

weakness. Sinners or saints, we all must anchor our life on

God’s grace, mercy and love.

Let us indeed experience God’s loving mercy and embrace in the Sacrament of Confession and in turn share this experience with the people we meet every day of our lives. Amen. From Fr. Steve

JOIN US FOR EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AT STAR OF THE SEA ON THE 1ST

THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH FROM 8:30AM UNTIL 3:00PM

The next Adoration is April 4th from 8:30am-3pm What is Eucharistic Adoration? Eucharistic Adoration is adoring or honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. We as Catholics believe that Christ is truly and substantially present in the Eucharist – Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.

Outside of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Jesus remains in the Tabernacle. For Eucharistic Adoration, Our Lord is taken from the Tabernacle and placed in a Monstrance on the Altar, so all may adore Him and spend time with Him. Eucharistic Adoration is "God and Man reaching out for each other, at the same time!"

The priest uses a humeral veil for the blessing with the Mon-strance so that his hands do not touch the Monstrance…this is symbolic that Jesus and not the priest is blessing the people.

Please prayerfully consider joining the parish Eucharistic Adoration team – contact Dick and Sue Meeker at 757-228-7775 or [email protected]

CRS Rice Bowl’s “Story of Hope” highlights for the fourth Sunday of Lent the story of Kumba, a young girl who is

assisted by a CRS-sponsored programs in getting a good education in Sierra Leone. A good education doesn’t just benefit the student. It benefits the family, the community, and the common good, allowing individuals to flourish without

needing to leave home. Learn more about Kumba and her family’s story www.crsricebowl.org/stories-of-hope/week-4

Peace & Justice During Lent, may we grow closer to Jesus and continue with our prayers, fasting, and almsgiving. May we grow closer in our relationship with God and learn how much He loves all of us!

PRAYER: We pray for others in the global church. We reflect on what type of person God calls us to be, and we ask for his guidance in living up to our potential. There are many ways to pray, and many individuals and communities that need our prayers.

FASTING: We fast, or give things up, as a reminder to remove things in our lives that get in the way of our relationship with God. When we feel hungry or choose not to eat the things we like, we are reminded that everything we have is a gift from God. Our fasting also reminds us of those who do not have enough food, who experience hunger without a choice. God calls each of us to care for those who are in need.

ALMSGIVING: We give alms with a spirit of generosity to our brothers and sisters in need, honoring Jesus’ call to serve our neighbors. This Lent, through our sacrifices, we can empower and transform the lives of our brothers and sisters in need. Social Outreach: Social Outreach’s mission is to share God’s love by serving the needy and homeless in our parish community and any Virginia Beach resident on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:30 – 11:00 am.

Our pantry shelves are filled by the generosity of our dear SOS parishioners!

Recently our students at Star of the Sea School were able to gather for St. Patrick’s Day canned food items to help our guests at Social Outreach! Thank you so much to our students and families on such a wonderful Lenten project!

FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT: “Rights and Responsibili-ties”: Catholic social teaching inspires and guides how we are to live and work in the world. In this principle, ‘Rights and Responsibilities’, we remember that every person has basic rights that make life truly human. Corresponding to our rights, we all have duties and responsibilities to one another, our families and the larger society.
