Star Construction – P!NKMusic artists are constructed in a way that reflects their character and, stereotypically, the

type of music genre that they work in. As an example, a music artist such as PINK represents herself through being rebellious and the fact that she is being original. She is assigned by LaFace Records and Arista Records which are both a unit of Sony Music Entertainment. Even though, personally, these record labels are unpopular, the fact that they belong to Sony promotes her star image and persona. Over time, her image has essentially changed due to how amplified her music videos are to the lyrics. In one of her earlier music videos, ‘Don’t let me get me’, she presents herself with a rock icon image through the use of her costume, behaviour and the fact that she has her own magazine in her music video. She also conveys that everyone is different which is accepted.She also stereotypically presents the pop genre in this way and even though this may be the case, there are still some areas in which the genre is vaguely different, shown through how the music video is essentially staged as a short narrative. As well as this, some of her lyrics are explicit which also portrays her image of being rebellious. Some of her more recent music videos, such as ‘Blow me (one last kiss)’, vaguely tells a narrative which is shown by the visuals and some of the lyrics. This music video portrays her as being an unforgiving character, and near the end of the video she’s had enough of all the drama. Compared to her earlier videos, PINK’s rebellious image has rapidly changed to a more calm and composed image. The image that she recently depicts herself through isn’t stereotypical as in her more recent videos; she’s not partying all the time and is essentially telling a narrative in most of her music videos.
