Busy, Busy!
Term 4 is nearly always a term filled with events and activities and this term is no exception. However, teachers and students will be working just as hard at the business of teaching and learning. Students will be consolidating the learning they have done over the previous three terms and being supported and guided by their teachers in areas where they can improve or extend their learning.
Junior School Council
JSC is running a Crazy Hair & Hat Day next week to raise funds for our nominated charity of Save The Children.
Grade 5-6 Camp Information Session
Miss H will be running an information session for parents next Tuesday 27
th after
school. The session will begin at 3.30pm and run for about half an hour. She will cover issues such as the type of activities students will experience, the expectations for students etc. Parents of students attending camp are warmly invited to attend so that any questions can be answered and information shared accurately.
Celebrating Indigenous Culture
As part of our term’s unit of work, we will be visited by our local Koorie Education Support Officer, Richard Ronnan, next Wednesday morning. Students will hear and learn firsthand, some of the local history and culture of this and neighbouring areas. The sessions will be tailored to meet the two class groups levels and students will be invited to interact and ask questions throughout the session.

‘Inspiring lifelong learning’
P-2 Movie Night.
Next Thursday our prep, ones and two’s will have their annual Movie Night, here at school. Miss H is preparing some great activities for the P-2s to be involved in before they settle down for their movie. Parents Club are organising the catering for the night, which makes things a lot easier for everyone! Students will need to bring their PJ’s, dressing gown and slippers, along with their toiletries such as toothbrushes and paste, face washer and soap and their pillow and sleeping bag or doona. They may also bring one small soft toy. Parents will need to collect their child/ren at 8.30pm.
Kid’s Cup
For the second year, Stanhope Primary will celebrate the Melbourne Cup, with its own version, The Kid’s Cup’! The running of the Cup will take place at 2.45pm next Friday 30
th October. The
draw will take place on Thursday 29th,
based on whatever horses are in the running (for the Melbourne Cup) at that time. Our race will be handicapped according to our steward’s decision. Families and friends are welcome to attend and watch this spectacular event! Our regular school assembly will take place following the race. Students racing, are asked to wear a colourful shirt, hat or sash for the race. Spectator students may also wish to wear a colourful shirt or sash etc, but this is not a requirement or expectation.
Halloween
Please note that Stanhope Primary School will not be celebrating Halloween. This of course means that there will be no costumes or out of uniform arrangements in place. As this coincides with our Kids Cup, the day will be certainly filled with colour regardless!
Education State
On Monday I attended the Principal’s Forum in Bendigo. The theme for the day was the ‘Education State’ initiative. This is a broad and comprehensive State Government reform involving a huge injection of funds and support for education. These reforms and initiatives are the result of wide-ranging consultations across the state. Already we have seen our school benefit to some degree in terms of available funds, but all schools will be further supported by the increased support available through our depleted Regional Offices, which are currently being strengthened by increased staffing. These reforms have huge implications for your children with the type of education they will receive over the coming years. Our teachers are also becoming acquainted with the new Victorian Curriculum and a number of other initiatives that will have a direct impact on the way education is delivered. Lots more information and details can be found here: http://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/educationstate/Pages/default.aspx Sporting Schools Our sessions with Simone will resume next Tuesday 27th October straight after school.
Ancient Animals
in P/1/2
I have purchased a Woolworths Ancient Animals Collector’s Album for the grade. If you have any duplicate or “spare” cards you would like to donate to the grade for our class album it would be fantastic! I have a number of "spares" and I am happy for students to write down the numbers of the cards that they need and raid my stash for their collections.

TEACHER REQUEST
Can any and all students who have hair long enough to tie back, please make sure to do so. Several students are distracted by their hair constantly falling in their eyes and face. This detracts from their ability to focus on their learning. There are also health and safety implications for hair that is not tied back. Thank you for your cooperation.

Movement Breaks in the ClassroomMovement Breaks in the Classroom
Many of you will know that we have movement breaks in the classroom using a website called Go Noodle. These breaks occur once or twice a day when the students have been sitting for a period of time. Movement breaks of 1-2 minutes during class time help the students to refocus and concentrate on learning new topics at school. Rather than being a distraction, regular movement breaks have been proven to enhance student learning and achievement. Movement breaks also have a positive impact on student behaviour.
