Stanford Undergraduate Psychology Conference 2005 2005 Dr. Carstensen is the current chair of the Department of Psychology at Stanford University and director of the Life-span Development Laboratory. Her specialties include socioemotional selectivity theory, emotional develop- ment throughout the life-span, the role social relationships play in psychologi- cal well-being, and the influence of motivation on cognitive processing in old age. Dr. Carstensen is currently Chair of the National Academy of Sciences Committee on a Research Agenda for the Social Psychology of Aging and panel member of the National Institute on Aging’s Behavioral and Social Sciences Review Committee. She has received the Richard Kalish Award for Innovative Research, Stanford University's Dean's Distinguished Teaching Award, and was most recently selected as a Guggenheim Fellow.
