Standards for Technology Enhanced Classrooms

IMS Support:• IMS Services currently supports 80+ Technology Enhanced

Classrooms.

• Several more planned for 2006/ 07.

• The majority of these rooms are “General Purpose Teaching Classrooms.”

• Almost all rooms have a projector and screen; some rooms are also equipped with a VHS Player, DVD, amp and speakers, document camera, internet connectivity, wireless or both.

• By having most of the equipment that the faculty uses on a regular

basis in a classroom on campus, instructors are able to use the technology to enhance their subject matter.

The Problem:• Classrooms do not have the same technology.

• Much of the existing classroom technology is 10+ years old and outdated.

• Much of the existing technology is broken and/or was never installed properly.

• Because there are no standards for classroom technology on the Campus, It is impossible to fix problems promptly, because of the the number of different components varies from classroom to classroom.

The Solution:• Build inexpensive classrooms that have the same

technology. (Classroom Technology Standard)

• Give every room the ability to communicate immediately with a IMS Service Desk in case of equipment failure.

• Offer options for rooms with special needs that can be maintained.

IMS Support Desk and Head End Facility

This new state of the art Technology Facility was built to both manage the synchronous distance learning technology along with the TEC classrooms.

This facility will be able to assist professors, instructors and staff immediately with any technology breakdowns that might occur while teaching in a classroom on the campus.

By standardizing the Technology Enhanced Classrooms at Cleveland State University:

•Our Classrooms will all operate the same no matter what building you teach in.

•We can offer the necessary immediate support our faculty deserve.

•We can market ourselves to the student population as more of a technological university.

•We will be able to fix technology problems that come up immediately, rather than wait weeks sometimes months for spare parts.
