Charles J. Uban II (1921-2003) WATERLOO- Charles John Uban IL 82, of

Waterloo, ·died Tu~ Sept 2, ·at Sartori · · · · Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls.

He was born June 29, 1921, in Thompson, son of John and Mildred Jensen Uban. He married Emina Jo Schnucker on Aug. 2, 1945, in Waterloo.

Mt: Uban was a graduate of West Waterloo High School and Iowa State University with a mechani· cal engineering degree. He was a pilot in the China National Aviation Corps AVG (Flying . . Tigers) during World War II. He was stationed in a.tes IIIIa 1 the India-Burma Theater of Operations and was .decorated by the U.S. Air Force with the Distinguished Flying Cross. Air Medal and four Bronze Service Stars, and well as deco­rations from the Cliinese government

He ·was a pilot for Pan American Airlines and served two terms as a state representative. He owned and operated Uban Oil Co.,

· Waterloo. for over 50 years, receiving a citation from Governor Branstad for "Excellence in Energy Conservation."

SurviVors include: his wife; three sons, C. John (Judy) of · Minneapolis, Stephen (Nicolle) of Stillwater, Minn., and Mark · (Karen) of West Frankfort, Dl; two daughters, Jolynn Grace of St Croix. Vrrgin Islands. and Mary Ann Uban of Chaska, Minn.; 12 grandchildren, Aaron (G€orgette) Uban, Sera and Jesse Harold, Kristina and Julia Uban, WilL Jacob and Eli Uban, Isaac Uban and · .. Scott. Carly and Mitch Elmgren; and two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Sophia Uban. . ~~
