Commissioner Mark Stahl and Lowe insurance Services, Ltd. are

the target of a lawsuit by an Elmore insurance company, which

claims Stahl has been working on personal business from his

county office and that Stahl's wife obtained proprietary information

and trade secrets from the plaintiff.

The suit, filed in Ottawa County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday,

seeks at least $275,000 in compensatory and punitive damages for

Diversified Insurance Service, LLC.

According to William Pietrykowski, the attorney representing

Diversified, Stahl's wife, Julie, was previously affiliated with

Diversified.

"We believe Mr. Stahl has been interfering with our business and

we want it to stop," Pietrykowski said.

According to the Diversified website, Julie Stahl is one of five

owners of the company, which handles a variety of insurance

products.

The company has acquired almost 10 smaller insurance companies

during the past decade, according to its website.

In March, Julie Stahl filed a civil suit against two insurance

companies, one of which is Diversified, in Lucas County Common

Pleas Court.

In that suit, she asked the court to force the companies to turn over

financial records.

"We have voluntarily turned over all records," said Pietrykowski,

who is also representing Diversified in that case.

The Lucas County case is ongoing.

Pietrykowski said Stahl has been using his time and office at the

county to engage in personal business, but did not provide details.

"All I can say is we have documentation of that," he said, going on

to say that more information will surface in court. "We'll see wherethat goes."

Stahl, a Republican, said he finds the timing of the lawsuit

suspicious.

He is currently running a re-election campaign against current

Ottawa County Auditor Jodi Regal, a Democrat.

"There's no political motivation in this case," Pietrykowski said.

Stahl denied using the county office for personal business.

Ottawa County Board of Commissioners President Steve Arndt

described Stahl as extremely conscientious.

"He has a good code of ethics," Arndt said. "He never wants to give

any impression of impropriety."

Stahl said Toledo attorney Mark Wagoner, Jr. is currently reviewing

the complaint on his behalf.

Wagoner, a Republican state senator whose district encompasses

part of Ottawa County, is the attorney representing Julie Stahl in

her action against Diversified.
