S ome of Jesus’ disciples refuse to accept His command to eat His Body and drink His Blood. He Who is the Bread from Heaven; that is, the Food of

God, Who is God! Jesus is God become man (Incarnate); from this understanding, this realization, all else falls into place. The gift of God’s Self in our midst, Who becomes for us the Witness, the Example, the Model, the Offering, the Sacrifice, from God to God, Who is God. Jesus requires His disciples to accept His words because it is He Who has spoken them. The disciples are to have faith to believe because of the authority of God Himself Who reveals them and Who can neither be deceived nor deceive. Jesus says that His disciples cannot accept this mystery, this wonder, because they think of it in a too human way, in a too earthly understanding. Only someone who listens to His words and receives them as God’s revelation, which is “Spirit and Life”, is in a position to accept them! Those disciples who went away had closed themselves to divine grace; they were not ready to accept anything, which went beyond their very limited horizons (understanding). St. John Chrysostom helps us to understand such extraordinary requests. He advises us thus: “Let us in everything believe God…though what is said be contrary to our thoughts and senses…let us act likewise in respect to the mysteries, not looking at the things set before us, but keeping in mind His words. For His word cannot deceive.” MyLove&Prayers,

Fr. Ralph-Elias

Eucharistic Adoration is held here in our Parish at Our Lady’s Chapel every Thursday at 4:00 pm. (One hour before the 5:00 pm Mass) All parishioners are encouraged to come together in prayer before the Real Presence of God found in the exposed Blessed Sacrament. Please be generous with your time and join the other faithful in experiencing Christ’s greatest gift given to the Church, the abiding presence of Jesus who desires to feed us, heal us, strengthen us and mold us into his own body. -Fr. Thomas Otanga, O.C.D.

Does the parish have your current address? Are you receiving the quarterly packets of your “Church Offering Envelopes” and other parish mailings? Please help save the parish the added expense of “Postage Due” fees from the returned envelope packets. Please remember to notify the parish office of any address and phone number changes. The Greater Milwaukee Dental Association along with Marquette University School of Dentistry will again host the Give Kids A Smile Dental Day. The event will take place at Marquette University School of Dentistry on Saturday, October 6th from 8:00am to 12:00pm noon. This event is a collaboration with the Milwaukee area Head Start Programs and includes the volunteerism of Milwaukee area dentists, dental hygienists, dental students, and community organizers. On October 6th, children ages 3-16 will receive FREE dental exams, toothbrush polish, and fluoride varnish. Children will also have treatment completed on a first come first serve basis. We will also schedule children for follow-up and routine care at participating dental providers throughout the month of October.

St. Florian Parish has had the Scrip Fundraising Program in place for over 20 years and has appreciated the steady profit the program has earned. It seems, however that many parishioners are not familiar with the program. The concept is simple:

Scrip Fundraising Program

1. St. Florian’s purchases gift cards, or scrip from popular retailers at a discount.

2. Parishioners then buy the gift cards at face value.

That’s it. The profit is generated by difference in price from the discount the retailer gives to the full face value that you purchase the card at. These are the

same gift cards you see at the store. You’re probably familiar with giving them as a gift. However, these gift cards/scrips can also be used on your own spending. The retailers are happy to give the discount because they’re guaranteeing themselves customers and some goodwill advertising and parishioners are raising money for St.

Florian’s without any additional out of pocket cost. The only cost is the effort you put forth to stop and purchase the cards. Scrip is available in the back of church afte Mass and at the parish office, Tues. thru Fri. from 9am - 1pm.
