Do you like the parklet? Why?

Beautifies streetscape, gives the elderly, pregnant women & the weary somewhere to rest, without the need to purchase food or drink and has clean toilet facilities available to all.

Looks lovely, adds a relaxing environment for community members.

It's ugly. It's dangerous. It makes me NOT want to walk down that end of the street because I get eyeballed by patrons sitting down sucking in car fumes. It's far too close to a MAIN road. Trucks and buses go past it, I cannot fathom how anyone would feel remotely safe sitting next to moving traffic. It does not make the Main Street look better, makes it look ridiculous. Not to mention absolutely NO communication went on when it was built with neighbouring businesses and they have effectively lost a car space for their own customers. It's downright unfair on already struggling businesses!! What's going to happen if you out more in? Are you going to make more car parks elsewhere? Fix the disgusting state of the car parks in Taree? Nope, you won't.

Its hard enough to get a park in the main street for shopping or appointments. It takes up two spaces and more if you have a bigger car its hard to fit in the spaces either side.

I feel the parklet beautifies Victoria Street from a previous boring concrete jungle. The look is modern and we need to keep up the the times. It is no big deal loosing 1 or 2 car space for the benifit of the towns apperance

It takes up a very much needed car parking space in the main street where there aren't many of in the first place. It makes it even more difficult to park in the spaces beside the parklet due to it taking up the complete space so there is no room to move your car into the other spaces easily. And the extra time it takes for someone to get their car in the adjacent spots causes traffic to bank up back to the lights at the other end of the block causing cars to be stopped in the middle of the intersection when the lights got red. It has a similar effect at the lights near the parklet in the form of when the lights turn green traffic can't move through because they're banked up behind a car trying to get into the aforementioned spots adjacent the parklet. Which causes anger/annoyance and more importantly stops the smooth flow of traffic. I know it is "available to any member of the public" to use but out of the great many times I've been past it has not had anyone sitting in it bar once. So why keep something that people are not using and in the process take away something that they badly do want to use? It makes no sense at all to have it where it is other than to attract business to the sicilan, which I thought was not the aim of having it.

Looks great outside the Sicilian. Adds style.

It says it is open to the public but if you sit in there without buying something from them they express their opinions. Pollution from cars passing, and when parking in adjacent car parking spaces. Loss of car parking spaces. Narrowing of carriageway.

It's a waste of a parking space on a stretch that is already limited in parking spaces. Please remove immediately!

It's a great addition in the development of Taree. Change is great and it's great to see The Sicilian taking charge with it. I say let it stay!

It adds a nice feel to the street. A great idea but not sure how many of the public use it unless they are dining at the Sicilian.

The parklet idea has bought colour to an otherwise dull street

Unattractive and an ugly eye sore, looks dangerous, one less car space in an already busy location. I don't see why people want to eat there with the fumes of passing cars. Only seems to suit the Sicilian customers.

A pleasant change from a basic streetscrape

It is a innovative way to make the street scape more interesting. It adds to the atmosphere of our restaurant district on Victoria Street, bringing people together for meals and coffee. If we don't have initiatives like this nothing changes and people avoid the area. Now it is an attraction in itself that can and will work in other places in Taree. I have seen it work very well in Parramatta to create character to a shopping precinct that did not have any. Parklets and outside dinning areas are seen to be working because people are using them so the people that took the initiative are to be congratulated.

It looks nice and adds a pleasant atmosphere to town.

it gives a good community feel the area

Not in favour. Taking up valuable carparks. .

I think we need the parking spaces. The main street is starting to look like a circus. People are having to weave between the clothing racks. We are desperate for car spaces. It use to be an attractive drive through the main street.

To me it detracts from the street as it is in total isolation and thus jumps out like a pimple. If a more open approach to the entire street was included it would work better. Also - personally - I dont agree with it being out the front of one foot outlet only. If on the corner next to Bushland &

the Susan Ladies fashion shop I believe it would have more impact and be more inviting and flow better in the street.

Ugly, random, pointless

I think it is an eyesore, looks like a big rubbish bin. Visitors says it looks like big rubbish bin in the main street. Lack of car spaces in that area and it takes up 2 spaces, especially if you are disabled. Who is going to pay the compensation if someone gets hit? As rates payers are we the ones covering this. I have watched cars trying to park near it and they can't park there and they drive off. Holds up traffic.

Makes the street look alive and friendly.

I like the idea, it looks great and in concept it should be a good thing however it seems to only benefit The Sicilian and their customers as you feel odd sitting there if you haven't been into the cafe. It also makes it more congested on that corner (turning Left is hard).

Looks great

I think it adds something valuable to the CBD.

Because it brightens up that part of Victoria Street, great for people who want to sit outside the restaurant in the fresh air and the planter boxes look beautiful.

It looks lovely and free wifi is always useful.

Because it adds life and a brightness to the footpath

It was a very well used carpark. I used to use it all the time to access the bank, similar to the very handy 15 minute parks outside the Albert Street Post Office. Not safe, even at 40 km per hour; there is not much protection against a vehicle

It brightens up the street and there should be more of them

I feel the parklet is a positive initiative in bringing vibrancy and much needed additional activity to the CBD.

It takes up a parking space. It is potentially dangerous and a health hazard for anyone using it due to its closeness to moving vehicles and their fumes.

Takes up too much safe. Exhaust fumes from cars when seated in parklet

Brightens the street

Where do you stop, particularly when other restaurants make an application for a parklet, and parking is further reduced?

NO I THINK IT IS UNHEALTHY SITTING WITH CARS REVERSING SO CLOSE TO YOU. I ALSO GIVEN UP TRYING TO GET A PARK IN THAT AREA. OUR CAR PARKS ARE VALUABLE

It takes car parking away from my customers.

Looks good. But it takes up valuable car parks which is needed for the retail businesses in the street.

gives more feeling to the street

It's brings life into the Taree CBD, makes the main street look cheerful and encourages people to come back to the main street.

It is pleasant on the eye, inviting for passers-by to take a seat, use the Wi-Fi and just relax. Of course it is also a benefit to the proprietor, and so it should be. I would love to see more of them; placed outside appropriate businesses so that they, as well as the public, could benefit. Maybe another in Victoria Street on the other side, a couple in Pulteney St and Manning also. Of course some of our public will complain about losing 6 car spaces, and the owner making extra money where others are not etc, but the benefits; aesthetically, financially and just a good feeling of well being for the users and the community in general, far outweighs any negative. In time Taree will get more parking spaces but lets keep up the good work in the town centre and keep the good feel slowing.

It is a lovely space and look nice. It gives some interest to an otherwise boring street. It is lovely. Leave it there.

Cause it's a right pain in the butt and it has more car spaces away when there isn't a lot of parking to begin with

Outdoors means you can enjoy sunshine, it opens restaurant onto street, makes the most of a lovely town. It is nice to see Taree doing something!!

Parking spaces are too scarce, should not be using any, other areas can be used for 'parklets'. The current parklet makes parking difficult in the end two spaces and is preferential for the restaurant. If used, the parklet should be in the end space, not the middle.

It looks good and breaks up the view of cars.

I can't imagine how unhealthy it must be to have your lunch with cars spewing their pollution all over you. I also think that a lot of people are annoyed about losing a parking space in the main street.

The number of times i have seen 1 car taking up the 2 spaces between it and the traffic lights is crazy, and its distracting and bulky and ugly.

Yes, its a good atmosphere and looks great.

It adds to the streetscape and looks very upmarket...I've sat in it and had my lunch...it was very pleasant and I was very surprised that there was minimal traffic noise and no exhaust fumes...I am all for them and hope other cafes and shops install them...

As it gives an area outside to dine and makes the dining experience very pleasurable. Especially to enjoy our beautiful weather we are coming into.

It looks great, creates a nice atmosphere and is a great place to sit

It makes taree look attractive

I think its a good idea, why not?!

Great new idea

It's more like for the use of customers of the cafe

they say its available to any member of the community but if u sit there The Sicilian staff make you feel like bad when your not buying their food - also it takes up much needed parking spot, i wouldn't sit there in traffic eating food, no thanks

its new and fresh Concepcion and bring the vibe to the city.

Achieves very little where it is, when the main street still needs SO much work to become truly attractive. It takes up space, looks out of place, inconsistent design, bad, unhealthy and unsafe location.

Takes up valuable parking space.

Because Taree needs to keep up with progress... There's always some people who hate change! Go for it! Keep up with other towns... also good for tourism!

Because Taree needs to keep up with progress... There's always some people who hate change! Go for it! Keep up with other towns... also good for tourism!

Its attractive, makes you want to stop and have a coffee and watch the world go by.

I do not like the fact it is outside a cafe that make you feel you must purchase their goods to sit there. They also try to move you along if they feel you have been there to long.

LOVE IT. It adds a real freshness to not only Victoria Street, but indeed to Taree itself. We should have another one. It makes for a friendlier atmosphere and if we are to draw more people to Taree, this is exactly what is needed. This actually creates more foot traffic which in turn gives locals and visitors alike a better opportunity of passing shops they may otherwise have missed. Let's keep it, it absolutely looks great.

Innovative space for diners

Adds to the life of the street.

Reduces parking area.

Sets the mood!

It's a good exposure for the business.

Attractive- somewhere nice to have a break.

It improves the aesthetic of Victoria Street.

Eye pleasing, makes the surrounding looks more nice.

It's very unique and adds character to Taree.

Extra seats; especially summer.

Good in summer.

Gives an interesting appeal.

Looks appealing just like Italy.

Wonderful food and fun.

More room.

It's nice.

Makes street look nice.

Gives businesses more space and opportunity to create fun communal eateries.

It's inviting and looks good.

It makes it look very nice.

Amazing, original, welcome to the future Taree!

Originality and sense of community.

Looks nice, great place to sit and eat.

More inviting to sit and enjoy a coffee, to spend money in the area.

Still a part of the outside landscape and environment when enjoying a coffee.

Relaxing. Great for the long hot summer.

More outdoor eating areas.

Victoria had become a "dead" street over the past 10 years. I should know as I worked there from 1956 to 1993. My family business was there since 1933. This parklet is one of the great improvements over the past 5 years and "brightens" the area. One missing park space - what's

Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii)

Page 4: Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii) - Mid-Coast Council€¦ · time Taree will get more parking spaces but lets keep up the good work in the town centre and keep the good feel slowing

the big deal on that? One space only gone. Surely we are not that lazy that we cannot walk a short distance anymore. It's only one space. The Sicilian has improved the area around their business and needs a medal for their efforts, not condemnation. Please support them.

It shows taree is moving with the times and is modern

Because it takes up a parking space.

very peaceful and restful place to have a cup of coffee and something to eat.

The parklet adds ambience to the main street and provides a pleasant place for alfresco dining. Taree needs to move into the 21st century and provide more spaces such as this.

Adds interest to the town centre. I like the flowers and overall it is an aesthetically pleasing space. Encourages people to chat and meet other people out on the street.

Beautiful visually, nice social hub for locals and attracts travellers passing through.

Adds interest to the main street, enhances the atmosphere of the shopping precinct

it adds ambience and culture to the town

takes p parking on main street

It draws more attention to the shops on that side of the street and creates more of a "community feeling".

unnecessary, uses parking space in an area where parking is at a premium, serves the interests of one shop owner, unhealthy to have people sitting so close to traffic, fumes from motor vehicles are more toxic than smoke from cigarettes which have been banned every where in public spaces, if it is to be fair to all then every shop should have this "community space" which will mean even less parking in a very busy business area, council should be supplying more parking if it wishes to attract people to the area as well as providing decent, well-kept clean public amentities

Adds great atmosphere to that locality

Taree needs much more of this enhancement, as we are getting a really poor reputation around Australia. Ever since Taree City Centre moved to Taree, Victoria Street has become neglected in many ways, so we need to do everything possible, in order to bring Taree back to it's former glory. Recent attacks of vandalism show the real need for CCTV cameras in Taree as well.

It provides a space in front of eateries where you can relax without the exhuast fumes from cars parked and not turned off whilst they wait for others to return .it also looks quiet attractive for the street.i would like a limit to where and how many could be used

It looks good, great spot to sit wi if coffee or no coffee WC access which is needed in the Main Street area really only takes 1 car space the garden looks natural opposed to a car

With the beautifican of the Main Street many years ago, and the removal of parking spaces then. Parking became limited. Every car park counts for the businesses to survive. On the opposite side of the road in front of Spotlight, there is footpath in between the gardens, it would have been better suited to create an open eatery there.

A commercial operation should pay for the use of public space

It's attractive and for some bizarre reason I find it relaxing seeing people drinking coffee etc in it as I walk past

It adds space for people to be on the street, rather than rushing off someplace. Makes the whole place feel like it has some amenity other than transport.

It looks great, adds colour and modernness to the street, helps the street to look more than just a shopping centre. Makes me want to visit it, reminds me of European cities.

NO PARKING IS NEEDED

It brings atmosphere to the street which we so desperately need in this town we need more of it.

It's something different to all of the shop fronts

Adds colour and personality.

it is taking u a valuable car space and is full of the restraints stuff

not at first but it brings a better feet to the area

It's aesthetically pleasing. Removes one car space (which I think they all car spaces should go). It's inviting and allows people to take a seat from their busy day and enjoy the outdoors without feeling obliged to buy from the establishment.

Its imaginative and friendly

It's something new and different and provides a great space to meet with friends.

I think being outside on footpath is socially & environmentally great. I don't see anything wrong with taking up a car space, if anything the seating outdoors brings colour to the environment and space & freedom to the patrons and a pleasure.

I like the European feel of the parklet and the colour that it provides to the area with minimal loss to parking spaces.

Provides a contemporary lifestyle option which is sadly lacking in the area

It brings colour, activity and an air of difference to the street and landscape

Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii)

It would be better placed on one of the many little gardens in the street, rather than taking up a car space.

Something different.

Improves the streetscape.

Brings in more tourists, also improves the landscape.

It's nice to sit and enjoy a meal watching passers by in the Main Street.

It looks good.

Reminds me of Lygon St Melbourne.

Subdued and different, variation and colourful.

Makes the street more people friendly

More relaxing area and more friendly atmosphere.

Creates fantastic ambiance to Main Street.

Gives atmosphere to town Centre.

Taree has improved very much. Shop fronts clean.

No dirty paths.

Pet friendly.

Outside seating is great. Add character to town.

Atmosphere, street appeal.

Looks great.

Good for the town.

Nice to be outside on a sunny winter day.

Convenient but should be for everyone, not just patrons

It's quaint, and very aesthetically pleasing.

Good vibe- views

I like it but it's noisy due to cars/trucks passing.

It is nice and convenient.

Adds a nice character to an otherwise busy main road.

It's nice

it's nice

Good for the community to have more parking options

Safer sidewalk dining

Lovely outside area to eat, well maintained, flower boxes

It brings some colour to the main street

The relaxed outdoor dining experience enhances the street appeal

It adds visual interest to the street and makes it more appealing for pedestrians. The flowers in the planter boxes add a touch of nature.

Because it is a great seating idea, makes the main street look appealing, the owner has posa itive outlook for the area, it does not affect anyone or any traffic only the wingers, its free to the public, Newcastle and other areas have parklets and they appear to be popular in urban design concepts.

Makes the streets more vibrant

It looks like a nice spot to sit.

It is attractive.

Its a nice little space that the people of taree can enjoy

I think it should be in a spot where it doesn't look like it is part of the cafe. I know in the media they say that anyone can use it, I would feel uncomfortable going in there if I was not ordering something from The Sicilian

Uses up valuable parking space

It gives a cosmopolitan vibe to the main street. I have sat there and it is exciting to be amongst the "buzz" of the street.

creates atmosphere/interest

innovative, different, contemporary.

It opens up the urban for people walking around. It is visually enticing but it looks attached to the cafe so would benefit the mainly that business.

Read below

I think it is a great addition to the street. It's well built and appealing to look at and from all observations well utilised. I think it is an excellent way to draw people to the street and to encourage them to stay longer. It makes the street look more communal and send a message to visitors that Taree is a vibrant community.

provides interest, articulation and increased space for outdoor dining, thereby increasing

activation of our main street.

Alfresco dining Place to meet and sit Looks good Looks modern and contemporary

It achieves the intention of adding vibrancy and interest to the streetscape

Nice atmosphere to the street, easier to walk along footpath

It adds seating to that side of the street. I think it looks pretty cool.

Adds character to the street, more options for outdoor dining

It is dangerous to sit out on what is normally a parking space, and often worrying about the car reversing into you

Encourages outdoor dining, it has a nice feel to it, it is modern and makes Taree more attractive visually.

It should break up the line of parking - ie leaves one spot behind it. Makes it hard and awkward to park around it. I'd rather it shortened the line of parking, so is at one end or the other. I won't attempt to park on either side of it.

Adds to the atmosphere and beauty of the town with more rest/seating for people to use.

It brings style to the Main Street.

I'd like to see more.See them planted. See them as small pieces of intimacy within our community.

It's interesting.

It looks great and brightens up the street. Increased business.A lovely area to sit and meet with friends.

Visually appealing and lift to the streetscape.

Softens the street scape. The green buffer appeals visually. Minimal impact upon parking.

It gives the area a more relaxed and i inviting look. Provides some much needed seating in the main street.

It adds to the visual appeal of the main street,

Too close to moving traffic and traffic lights. Causes congestion. Not hygienic. Looks out of place. For those that choose to sit there The Sicilan staff hassle them with a menu.

it is business supporting community. It is good for the main street.

It realy adds to the streetscape, it attracted us as we were driving by,(after a holiday in Port) and we decided to stop and have a look around, ended up having lunch.

It looks contemporary

like the idea of the out door seating.

Makes our city look inviting and provides a space to sit and enjoy.

The HWY doesn't go thru there any more, that section of Victoria street should be closed and turned into an open arcade. That would fix the business owners issue.

We need to rejuvenate Victoria Street business precinct and initiatives like this need support

It improves the look of the street, adds character and interest.

If it were on the footpath it would be great. I realise there is no room, but on the road. No way.

It is an inconvenience to parking, a hazard to wheelchair, cane and vision impaired users of the footpath.

It takes up more area than 1 vehicle and makes parking on each side difficult, the barrier signage protrudes the parking bay dimensions

Great to be able to sit outside and enjoy our main street

It is an attractive community space that adds interest to our main street.

It appears to be an innovative feature on the streetscape.

Creates more attractive outdoor seating which changes the whole atmosphere of Victoria St. Just outside a café (with great coffee) adds to the convenience of the trial parklet. Adds a more cosmopolitan feel to Taree.

Waste of a parking space. Supposedly available for anyone to use without visiting the restaurant however it is boxed in with plants and under branded umbrellas, which makes it uncomfortable to go and sit there without being a restaurant patron.

I think it makes the main street more vibrant and I think that it will encourage people to use the street.

Taree is short of parking spaces and the current use of this space makes it even more difficult to park in that area of Victoria Street - moreover there is only one disabled spot on that side of the street which makes it even harder to access businesses in that area of the street including two busy banks

1. Takes up parking space. 2. Nose in parking was supposed to stop exhaust fumes effecting shoppers, now allowing shopper to sit for longer periods and even closer to main stream traffic!

Never used it...still love it. Makes the street beautiful, useable and accessible.

I think it add's a fantastic dimension to the street scape, and provides another area for somethong so sourly missing in our world today..... conversation

More inviting for outside dining, fresh air, better atmosphere and trendy.

The parklet is a great addition to Taree's main street. It provides a great atmosphere allowing people to dine whilst making the most of our weather and surrounds.

i would not feel safe sitting there

It is taking up a valuable parking space also I do not believe in the service of alcohol on a public road. Also the parklet has been joined on to the footpath seating of the Sicilian Restaurant which is gradually taking over the footpath as well. A parklet is totally out of place in Taree. There are two parking spaces on either side of the parklet and it is now harder for cars to park directly on either side of the parklet with the result that drivers either move on or hit the bumpers of cars using the other two spaces. There are 14 car spaces on the side of the road accommodating the parklet, 30 on the other. Why not move it to say in front of shops on the other side of the road and wait for a reaction.

Looks lovely. Brightens the place up, looks like we have some pride in our town.

Limits parking within the CBD. Dangerous consumption of traffic fumes. Eyesore.

The staff there make people who aren`t patrons very uncomfortable. Its an accident waiting to happen. It also demonstrates that if you`ve got money to throw around this council will entertain your stupid ideas..This isn`t Noosa it`s Taree ..this idea is right up there with reducing the area in the libarary to have yet another cafe..The people who make these decisions don`t deserve there jobs.

I think this is a waste of a parking space, it's the main street and you're lucky to get parking at any time. I think it's dangerous if someone was sitting in there with a child or children, they could easily run out and around that barrier straight into the traffic.

Where is it?

Doesn't need to be there, I dont think it is used as a 'public' setting more of extra seating for the Sicilian - look how the plants cover it in - plus 2 less car spaces

It looks nice from the road and from the street. Provides a larger eating area outside the Sicilian. It's private and pleasant to sit and eat at.

I think it looks horrible and most of all its an accident waiting to happen

Breaks up the alignment of the street and adds to the welcoming feel of the town

Adds real character to the street, and gives people more reasons to stay longer in the CBD. Cost of parking loss is negligible

It looks great - breaks up the street and provides a bit of colour. I like sitting on the street watching people go by.

It is taking up a valuable car parking space, it is so hard to find a parking space and then you take one away....doesn't make sense. Besides that, how unhealthy to be sitting on the street eating food breathing in car fumes and eating food covered in it! Can't say I see too many people sitting there anyway!

parking is already in short supply in town. Particularly in the area of the parklet. people have trouble parking beside it. this leads to traffic queuing further back than normal.

It gives a different outlook on dining in Taree, very European look.

Removes a public carpark from a high demand area. Although the parklet is said to be for public use, in reality it is only used by one private business. A public amenity has been changed to a private amenity with no net public benefit.

They take up valuable parking spaces without no one could park their vehicles to go to the shop itself never mind sitting down on the street being choked by car fumes and noise. It should never have been installed.

It livens up the street

It adds to the street, and provides something new...I like it.

I have no problem when walking or driving past

Any outdoor area that the public can use in safety and that brightens up our drab town has to be an advantage.

Adds vibrancy

Page 8: Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii) - Mid-Coast Council€¦ · time Taree will get more parking spaces but lets keep up the good work in the town centre and keep the good feel slowing

Do you support the creation of more parklets? Why?

As long as the parklets do not remove too much of the street parking therefore hurting the business houses that pay rents in Taree.

Adds beauty to area. Encourages people to enjoy community areas.

Because they are ugly, unsafe and we'll see my above answer. It covers this one too.

More parking spaces will be lost.

Yes I think they look great. I love walking past the parklet in Victoria Street and seeing locals and tourist sitting and talking , maybe eating or having coffee, it has a good feel about it.

I would support OTHER parklets if they were put in places where they are not causing such an impact on parking or traffic.

Same as above.

In less congested places, great idea but not in crowded main streets

They are great sit down areas and are what turn small towns into thriving cities.

Parking is often difficult so if another could be made with little impact on parking spaces that would be great.

The parklet idea has bought colour to an otherwise dull street

Unnecessary. We have a beautiful river bank that could be transformed into a beautiful alfresco eating area.

Appearance that the local area is welcoming

See above

If all cafes had a parklet there would not be any car spaces.

Because it is taking up parking/road space.

A consistant approach accross all CBD streets could work well with this concept but it would need to be consistant. However in isolation like the current one it does nothing for the street.

Taking car parking out of central business area

Not in car parking areas but alternatively it could be one for example in front of Spotlight were there is a wide foothpath.

Much nicer to sit outside than inside.

If they are not affiliated with p[articular businesses.

I would like More outdoor seating

A small area like Taree needs interesting things like this to wake up the CBD and potentially attract more locals and people from other areas into the shopping disctricts

I like the parklets only for restaurants and cafes. Not really needed for the other shops.

They're a great idea.

To give more beauty to taree

No, Taree cannot spare carparks

To brighten the place up and put some added colour to our streets and if the council does not have to pay so much the better, but I would vote for them even if the council picked up the tab.

Regenerates activity in the centre of town.

Totally absurd and dangerous idea.I'm sure that even most of the business people in the street would not support this idea.

Brings more people to centra of town

I think parklets may be better suited to the wider side streets, if at all.

CAR PARKS ARE MORE VALUABLE TO ALLOW CUSTOMERS TO COME AND GO IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO REDUCE CAR PARKING TIME IN SOME CAR PARKS IN THE MAIN STREET.

Not in Victoria St., maybe other streets that have more parking.

see 2

I will support anything that will improve the overall atmosphere of the main street, encourage people and businesses to invest in the town, and as well as the progression of the town in general.

As already stated above................I would love to see more of them; placed outside appropriate businesses so that they, as well as the public, could benefit.

They contribute to helping small business. We need to support our businesses! Taree is going downhill because council does not support business enough.

Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii)

Page 9: Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii) - Mid-Coast Council€¦ · time Taree will get more parking spaces but lets keep up the good work in the town centre and keep the good feel slowing

Cause we're already struggling to have enough parking as it is

Encourages outdoor seating, encourages a sense of community,

Put one in IGA and Coles parking lots, where it's quieter, less likely to be hit by a vehicle.

It makes the street look more appealing.

I just don't think they add to the ambience of the town. Perhaps a better focus would be to encourage restaurants along the park facing towards the river.

taking up space of parking as it is, more will just reduce parking availability. I think even the chairs and tables on the footpath make walking a minefield. weaving through staff and customers is a nuicence. I dont think it makes the area apealing at all

It 'greens' the street and looks very attractive and is a pleasant place to sit ...

As I think it is a great use of space and offers more to the community

I don't see the issue in it.

Great for the community and great for all users

But not right I front of a cafe or a restaurant

you have the whole river bank - let people sit there and eat - much more healthier then in traffic

its great for taree

So many better things can be done to bring people into town. This is just distracting from other good opportunities. The vibrant spaces thing looks like it has had no design or quality assurance around it.

More valuable car parking spaces go.

Good for the town & tourism.

Good for the town & tourism.

Good for the town's image, looks friendly, up market.

Parking is a big enough issue in Taree CBD without assisting a minority of the businesses

As mentioned before, it adds a certain atmosphere which is very friendly and inviting, especially for those who may be only passing through Taree. It may even make them want to stop or at least call in another time. Such a great thing for the local businesses

Creates a 'buzz' in the town centre

The business should be congratulated for trying new idea to improve the main street.

Because it is the next best thing to closing off the whole street.

Taree needs more of this character encouraging social vibe.

Adds vibrancy to town.

Comfortable seating

It will encourage more people to stop and eat in this area of Taree.

Controls traffic.

It adds character to Taree.

Adds interest and diversity tot eh main street.

Adds to nice ambiance of the locality. Adds to liveliness of town.

Makes Taree more cosmopolitan.

Still need parking places.

Beautification.

They're nice.

Where possible when parking is not affected.

Benefits community by creating social gathering space for groups to enjoy the local cafes and delicacies of this great Manning region.

It gives the street more atmosphere.

Atmosphere, comfortable, Heating for winter.

Increased outdoor dining and increased patronage for local businesses.

The town looks more vibrant.

IT's more friendly a great space to bring people into the area.

Great place to get together. Cars going past see activity so area looks pro-active.

To create a better ambiance for people.

Greater street feeling.

Time out doors- except fumes from traffic.

Just look at the photo in Friday's Times. What a great colourful area. Bring more into Victoria Street and do it in my lifetime. PLEASE.

Modernize our town show we can move forward as a town

Because we will have more parking spaces not able to be used. These parking spots in Victoria Street are useful for the elderly who cannot do the long walk from the parking areas out the back.

Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii)

Page 10: Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii) - Mid-Coast Council€¦ · time Taree will get more parking spaces but lets keep up the good work in the town centre and keep the good feel slowing

Taree needs more of this and the people want it. You only have to see how well it is used.

It encourages people into the area and brings Taree in to line with other towns. We demand this type of dining these days and even small towns in the far west of NSW have such spaces..

Absolutely. Because of the interest and added value to the street atmosphere that the create.

as explained above

They would provide a distinctive and attractive feature to the street scape

our climate lends itself to outdoor eating.

There has to be a balance of such parklets actually being used and the need for parking spaces. No point in having them in an area where no coffee shop or restaurant is close by.

see comments above

The parking spaces used would either be used by employees/owner nearby or by lazy shoppers.

As mentioned previously, Taree needs all the help it can get, in order to attract people into our town.

Too many would restrict trade vut a few would enhance the street

Gives Taree a real point of difference (Character)

Not in Victoria street or the CBD surrounding, purely for the parking restrictions.

As long as they pay for it, the income will assist in fixing the poor town roads

See above, whyshould cars rule the world?

If the street is for more than parking, then people will use the spaces more. There's nothing worse than empty spaces to make a town look unloved - just look at all the money wasted on vast unused areas of paving all through Taree. Yuk.

To help make the street enticing to shoppers, travelers and workers too. Gives it a park like atmosphere - being somewhere a person can enjoy taking a break.

NO PARKING IS NEEDED

Taree town needs to be a more happening place. All the kids want to leave or have left as there is absolutely nothing here for them. My husband is trying to get me to move to Newcastle or Port Macquarie there really isn't much night life in this town.

Cause it may cause more division in the community

Nice to see people enjoying their town

if they are truly for people and not full of business stuff

Lets face it we need more parking but too we need to keep our town moving

The whole strip from Pulteney St to Manning St should be closed off and turned into a mall strip with seating available for the public. This would allow business to display their wares and place seating/tables which in turn will invite more people and business to the area.

more will open up the CBD to better pedestrian use

The more the merrier.

Adds some character to our cbd

I believe in being outdoors in all weather for our good health & green environment to share each others friendship and food.

It encourages more people onto the streets of the town if they can sit, relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

Urgent need to attract tourists, investment and new residents to the area.

Not at the cost of extra street parking.

It creates atmosphere for community engagement.

Visually better, more place to relax.

Improve traffic.

More community involvement and social interaction.

They help to beautify the street.

It makes the street more attractive.

Enjoyable place to enjoy food and have a view of Taree.

Depends where they would be.

Makes the street more people friendly

As above.

It makes Taree appear to be a people friendly town.

A nice ambiance for the town, tourist and out of town meeting place for people coming into town.

Creates a more relaxed atmosphere.

Taree is a much better place to visit.

Definitely if it cleans Taree area.

Pet friendly.

Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii)

Page 11: Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii) - Mid-Coast Council€¦ · time Taree will get more parking spaces but lets keep up the good work in the town centre and keep the good feel slowing

Makes meeting friends more fun. Pet friendly too.

Park cars out back.

Character, ambiance, inviting to Taree.

the street is more inviting and looks lovely.

For value will add to town.

They make the main street look more attractive to the public.

It gives atmosphere to Victoria Street and is very attractive.

More the better.

Great look! Great vibe!

Maybe, unfortunately it may encourage more vandalism in the community.

Fresh air is good.

Nice to be outside

depends where and if you take parking away. We need more parking in Taree.

It is nice to sit outside.

To make the area more appealing.

It's the vibe

Very classy Taree certainly needs more

it's a good idea

More parking facilities are vital for Taree

Chance for other outlets to enjoy same facilities

Need to maintain some carparks

The town needs updating and beautifying

There are ample parking spots available in the CBD and losing a few more won't severely affect this however it will increase the number of people coming to the street to meet & dine, therefore hopefully increasing the shoppers to those retail outlets in the area.

Anything that creates a more congenial space for pedestrians is welcomed. Cars and their needs (i.e. parking spaces) have for too long dominated what should be a pleasant shopping environment.

as above

Love seeing the community out enjoying our beautiful town!

I think they are a nice friendly look

I would, as long as more (preferably untimed) parking was opened up close by to replace any parking spaces lost. Lack of parking in the main street is a deterrent for me when shopping. This was particularly the case when my children were smaller but also now if I only want to purchase a couple of items quickly.

A more relaxed feel would be created within the towns

An attracter even if only to check it out and decide it's not for you. Sets us apart from other regional towns on the north coast trail.

As many of these to make the town fridnly and inviting for people to linger and enjoy

Sufficient space needs to be maintained at each end of the parklet to allow sufficient room for adjacent parking cars to manoeuvre into place. The current parklet is too long and encroaches into the manoeuvring area for adjacent car parks.

As noted above, I think they look appealing, encourage people to linger in the area for longer and create an impression of a vibrant community culture.

benefits described above.

To encourage a sense of community and people on the street

Enough parking in carpark behind so doesn't really impact that much on on-street parking

Not realty a need for more as the street is wide enough in most places

It will bring a relaxing atmosphere, with respect from the community knowing something is being done to improve the area of Taree. It creates a fanatic outlook

Much better to remove car spaces and dedicate a long wide strip of people friendly spaces, then a tokenistic bay next to cars, in this case 10cm away.

Taree needs a total revamp and this seems like a good way to start. I think it would be fantastic to make that whole street one way, and have a whole line of parklets or a more open mall type space there. There's so much scope with a little out-of-the-box thinking and some creative leaps.

As above, shorten the line of parking spots rather than breaking it up awkwardly.

Wouldn't it be nice if that whole side of the street the foot path was made wider and parking taken away. To create more seating in the area for all to use. Shops could extend with tables and racks out yhe ftont. A mini mall idea.

Would love to see Taree build a restaurant hub. Taree has a lot of supporting events come to its

at own and a restaurant hub would support these represent ice weekends for sporting events and the like.

see above

If it brings more life to Taree

This one is an improvement to the streets ambiance,so more the merrier..

In right space if comparable to the business would assist viability and increase activity in the street. Gives impression of prosperity rather than all activity contained within shop.

Social gathering points. I have used it several times in this capacity, sometimes buying a drink and sometimes not.

It will brighten the street and hopefully bring more people into the area.

I would support one more parklet (in the same block between Pulteney and Manning Sts) but I would be concerned about the reduction of parking spaces if there were more than 2 in total

Only on wider roads, not near traffic lights and amongst other parklets. Make other parking available.

Because they add intrinsic value to our town, drive interest to the area

Sounds good but it may take up too many parking spaces

It makes our town a bit groovier

i would like to see that whole street turned into a mall.

More life in our town.

Not enough car parks in Taree as it is without loosing them.

As above

I think they provide an opportunity to create interest in the CBD area, provide amenities for the public. I don't believe the reduction of one car park has a significant effect impact on parking generally.

It makes the street a more vibrant and welcoming place for pedestrians. Encouraging pedestrian traffic is becoming increasingly more important.

It's an accident waiting to happen

I think they take up valuable car space especially in Victoria St where there are not enough as is. I find it always hard to find a car park whenever I have needed one

For the above reasons already stated.

Of course....If the Sicilian can have one so should everyone else that wants one, we need more council of street parking, spend some money council and provide some.

Anything that helps to create a more vibrant town is worth doing.

I believe the loss of a car space to create an attractive community space is an investment that will deliver a return to the Manning Valley in the medium to longer term. Action is required to change community and visitor perceptions of Taree.

I believe this is something that will enhance the main street.

A parklet or two on the sunny side of Victoria Street for winter warmth would be appreciated.

As above.

Because there is insufficient parking in the CBD already.

Walk around Bondi Beach and you get an idea of the great vibrancy more could bring. Businesses should be encouraged to spend money on beautifying the street - everyone benefits.

dumb question , see the comment above as to why I like it

Yes, they are fashionable and functional and definitely more inviting.

Parklets are a great idea, they allow people to take in the surrounds and happenings in the community.

I do not believe they are necessary and I do not believe that the current parklet is really available to any members of the community at all. I work near the parklet and have never seen anyone there apart from those availing themselves of the Sicilian's hospitality which as previously stated is taking up more and more of the footpath.

Anything that improves the look of our town and encourages people to visit local business is good in my opinion.

What happens if a car slams into one while people are eating? Who will cover the costs of insurance or damages to the person / people involved or the potential mental damage done to onlookers?

Parking is a problem in that part of town,as stated before the staff at the sicillian are rude to non patrons. Its also a dangerous and unhealthy and if nobody from council has realised this you are ignorant....Also its unfair to other buisiness owners..Stop trying to make Taree some kind of trendy place that its not and fix our unsafe roads get your priorities right for once.

Obviously because the main street has insufficient parking spaces now.

I am very proud of my town. Anything to create beauty and enjoyable areas is very

commendable.

No Need - Shops are using the walking path already which is great - that street is hard enough to find a park as it is, imagine if we lost more parks.

lack of parking at best of times in that area, to close to cars stopping at lights

See above

Makes the town feel inviting for locals and visitors. Provides a space for people to rest

Increases seating capacity for businesses and adds to the ambience and appeal of the CBD

They make the street look more interesting

What a silly question...is council trying to drive people away from the main street? Can't find a park so move on!

If Council is considering more parklets please first decide on a maximum number.

Only if they do not take up valuable parking spots in Victoria st, especially Disabled space which a few and far between on this main street!!

The current location is a strange and isolated spot - there is no linkage to other public open space. I support the idea of a parklet if there is greater likelihood of being used as a public amenity as intended.

Wasted valuable car parking space. If the business wants to grow, rent the shop next door when available or move to a more appropriate venue.

It gives Taree a friendly & social community atmosphere

If they are not placed where parking is scarce, yes.

Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii)

Page 14: Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii) - Mid-Coast Council€¦ · time Taree will get more parking spaces but lets keep up the good work in the town centre and keep the good feel slowing

Any additional comments or suggestions?

Like the fact that this affords the locals more clean, public toilet facilities in Taree, as these are sadly lacking in Taree. That Aldi were permitted to build in an area where no public toilet facilities are available and were not made to include them in their building is unacceptable.

Improvements to the town are always a positive move

Council really need to look at priorities in this town. How about instead of taking away car parks and using them for a stupid parklet, actually go and see ALL business owners face-to-face and see what THEY need rather than one business monopolise the council to get what they want ( the sicilian). Oh and while I'm at it, why oh WHY did you remove part of a loading zone in manning street and put a disabled park space over the top of it? Whose idea was that? A bloody joke! It's bad enough when tradies park in there ALL DAY and take up the entire loading zone without you making it even smaller! Why not shuffle other car park spaces to fit the disabled parks in? OR here's an idea, use up some of the taxi rank in the opposite side for a disabled park. There's rarely more than one taxi in that bay whenever I drive past!! No wonder people complain about not getting anywhere when you go and remove the one thing that makes their shop work. There is NO decent spot for couriers to park to make their job a bit more easy!

The parking spaces now nose to gutter are awful. So hard to get back out into flow of traffic. I have seen so many near misses. Also the spaces are so narrow. I'm sick of trying to get into my car and have new dents from other people are getting costly

I feel there are not many areas in the top half of Manning Street/Albert Street where workers can sit in the sun and have their lunch.Victoria Street has also the park but if you have not much time in your lunchbreak there is not really anywhere / greenspace to enjoy.

It is a good idea which I feel can enhance the city, but it's placement was poorly thought out.

The parklet outside the Sicilian is perhaps a little too close to the corner and traffic lights. If several parkets in the one street, should be of the same building material and contain plants or flowers visible to people walking or driving by.

KEEP IT! :)

Although it is a public space I don't feel that too many people would feel comfortable in taking food and drink there and eating at the tables that are clearly set by the Sicilian restaurant.

Turn Victoria st around to face the river. Start from the old valley fair and the buildings directly adjacent to it ie old tattoo parlour etc. Build a new precinct to include a relocated arts centre and includes an indigenous cultural centre and tourist information. Precinct would include cafes coffee shops restaurants. One way street along river bank between Macquarie and manning streets car parking underneath new precinct at ground level to mitigate issues surrounding floods etc

Get rid of the parklet.

Parklets should be introduced in local shopping centres as attractive and welcoming areas for locals and visitors to meet or sit and take in the atmosphere. Please restrict individual businesses from controlling use of these parklets. Bega Council, for examples, uses parklets to the best advantage.

Thanks for allowing the people of Taree the opportunity for providing feedback in this easy and quick way.

I have to go to the National Bank she is on a stick, old , 82 and can only go where she can park close. So does not want to see the spaces taken away. Wants to be able to stay independent and if she can't find a park she can't do that.

See above. This can work in my eyes if you have half a dozen or so near the intersections that flow onto the pavement. Unfortunately this purely comes across - by perception only - that this restaurant is looking for a way to gain more seats.

There are plenty of other ways council can help the public in the CBD area in Taree. Putting more public toilets around for instance, esp near parks which are used a lot by children. Having areas where the public can sit, access wi-fi with no obligation to a business, is a great idea, however, I don't think taking up car spaces is a great idea. Maybe council could use an unused shop to create a safe and free area for the public, esp those with children, to go to the toilet, feed their children, the elderly to sit etc.

A few more river side would be even better. Make proper use of the greatest asset.

If there are people who are complaining about the loss of 1 or 2 parking bays, then go and park somewhere else and walk. Good exercise.

No.

maybe advertise that the park let's are free to all community members not just to the shop owners customers as we naturally assume due to the placement of it.

Hanging flower baskets from the light posts. Pictures to follow.

In recent months, Victoria Street has gathered a positive and active feel. Inspiring to see the local businesses accepting and supporting progressive ideas.

Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii)

Page 15: Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii) - Mid-Coast Council€¦ · time Taree will get more parking spaces but lets keep up the good work in the town centre and keep the good feel slowing

Promote and support the open spaces we already have in the community

I think footpath al fresco dining has a better community feel rather than taking up a parking space.

The parking in Victoria Street is terrible especially for the elderly. If the bus zone was shortened and additional car spaces were provided then that would help.

I am aware that the parklet is available to the public but I am also aware that people have been asked to leave if they were not eating with them. And the car parking.

More needs to be done to bring life back into Taree, encourage people to shop local and promote a sense of community. What about turning the main street into a cafe precinct with more cafes, restaurants and outdoor eateries, markets and entertainment - it would give locals a place to meet, socialise and generally be involved in their community.

GTCC is on the right track, as is Graham Brown, Bill Dennes and their teams and other like minded people and businesses in Taree. Keep it going. The river walkways, the cycle/pedestrian tracks and selling off unused parks to upgrade others is all so positive. And we need this positive attitude. We cannot afford to allow any "Doom and Gloom" opinions spoil the good that is currently happening in Taree. Keep up the good work.

Leave it alone. There will always be people who are grumpy and feel the need to complain. We need to stop listening to them.

You would be mad if you let it stay

Keep the park let!!

I think the street would benefit from less traffic flow and more atmosphere. Creating a space where people want to linger will only benefit businesses.

Keep the parklet. The owner of Sicilian has done the best job with his restaurant and parklet.

I think anyone against it is silly, it's ONE parking space! What's the big deal? You don't have to sit there, to the people complaining about traffic noise. Some people enjoy to sit outside, I think it's great!

keep all the same looks and material.

Get rid of allowing shops to have wares,, clothes racks, furniture on the streets, focus on river bank opportunities, don't waste energy on parklets.

It is hard enough for Elderly and disabled to navigate their way through the streets without having to dodge people walking across with hot food and drinks etc thats without mentioning the clothing racks that are along the street now. Not sure how the people out in the parklet are eating due to the fumes from carsand also the noise how do you have a decent conversation. Next they will be whinging about the fumes etc from the cars and want to close the whole street due to pollution.

Don't listen to the grumblebums!

Don't listen to the grumblebums!

People have been complaining about losing a parking spot or two, but how often do you get one in the main street anyway? There are many other parking places around the area, but only one parklet so far - bring them on, it will make a more attractive town to which tourists and locals can enjoy.

It should never have been placed outside a cafe.

As for parking, the only REAL time we need it in Taree is holiday periods, namely Christmas. With the buses taking up a lot of space in the heart of Victoria Street, this is not good and the bus stop should be further up Victoria Street, perhaps opposite Valley Fair. That too could be more advantageous for that part of town. If buses ran all day every day it may be different to keep it where it is, but there is definitely a waste of space where it is currently positioned. Perhaps another parklet in front of Centrepoint Arcade?

We need more trees everywhere.

Keep it.

All cafes should be allowed Parklets. Outdoor dining in Australia is a must.

We have the best climate and should use it more like Europe.

Turn Victoria Street into a one way street/mall with more outdoor dining.

Very nice food.

They are really nice.

Great work in making our town more attractive to tourists.

It livens the street and invites more visitors to dine.

Please continue to act on ideas like this. Especially if Rosie Smith says so.

KEEP THE PARKLETS

The more people the better for the city. Especially outside shops and the perception it presents to others.

Thanks for coming to Port Macquarie.

Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii)

Page 16: Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii) - Mid-Coast Council€¦ · time Taree will get more parking spaces but lets keep up the good work in the town centre and keep the good feel slowing

Definitely! Many many people like myself do not complain but the number of negative comments I have read in the past 5 months on this Parklet and more so on Taree itself makes me ashamed to be a Tareeite. You, GTCC, have done a magnificent job on Queen Elizabeth Park from Harry Bennett Park up to the Rowing Club. Keep doing more like the permission last November to hold that magnificent function in Victoria Street. I am sure you have the support of the majority of the residents in Taree but, these residents are the silent majority. AND please, please do something about the Martin Bridge - It was built the year I was born and that's a long long time ago. In the past I have written to our State government (giving past member John Turner all copies of my letters and replies) but NOTHING has improved. When Mick Tuck was Mayor he and I had a talk about having it repainted but then Mick died and that was the end of that. It is a disgrace.

Change is as good as a holiday it refresges you

I have been told that people were asked to move on because they did not purchase their food and coffee from the Sicilian. It looks like it is part of their outdoor dining. There are plenty of seating in Victoria although this is not being used because shops put their merchandise on rails outside their shops against the seating, so it is impossible to sit on the seats.

More alfresco dining in Taree and greater utilisation of outdoor dining on the streets and river bank.

Please don't listen to negativity and narrow attitudes. We don't need it when Taree is starting to shine in many ways.

Hope more restaurants follow, can only benefit Taree as a town more. Too bad the river views have not been taken advantage off more.

Mockups of different types of parklets should be distributed to all cbd businesses, showing uses for non-dining, kid friendly, and disabled access configurations, some possibly just containing benches which would enhance the business.

I believe the whole water front area of Taree is under used. There should be cafes and restaurants all the way along from the bridge to Sailos. We have the climate and the culture for eating out. It would be fantastic to have an eating precinct.

Good work getting this trial done at no cost to council.

stop being a pack of twits and give the community what is really important eg decent roads, parks and toilet facilities and not pander to the whims of an already wealthy man. AND don't use crap excuses like it provides jobs ..... FFS wake up to yourselves and treat the people of this community with respect by not treating them like idiots

The overall effect on parking would be very minor; doubtful if any nearby shops could realistically claim loss of patronage - probably the opposite

Hopefully, council will be smart enough to not reject parcels in Taree, instead do everything possible to encourage more parcels.

With a commonsense approach to tjis issue i believe Taree could benefitfrom these

It just looks good with no detriment to the Main Street

I would suggest that the council look at the use of the parking Rangers. I worked in Pulteney Street for four months in a locally owned business. In that time I had full view of the street between 7am and 4pm week days, I saw the parking officer mark tyres on only 3 days over that timeframe. Car parks are used as all day parking for staff from all types of businesses in the CBD area. The revenue from parking could certainly help pay for multi story parking to assist with parking for businesses, then, let's talk about parklets!

The Main Street is becoming more vibrant and this can only ensure visitors see the Manning Valley as a great place to stop and eat and then perhaps stay a little longer!

Do something similar in those giant spaces of paving mentioned above. Maybe people will start to like Taree better then...

The flowers look really great and the whole thing is a fantastic idea - hope you do more in the future

TAREE CBD needs more parking. If i cant get a park near where i need to go then i go somewhere else. I am a busy person who is on a mission when i come into town. Parking is pathetic in this town

How about a decent venue with decent bands to see especially for the older kids and adults. We might then get some Sydney bands up here.

Fix the roads Please

A day MUST COME that see,s us get over road pedestrian crossing in our hell hole round about no need to say what one it drives us all mad

KEEP THE PARKLET and allow more to be built.

Many existing parking spaces in the CBD are occupied by shopkeepers and staff. Paid parking with free period as in Port Macquarie and many other towns would discourage this practice and free up existing spaces. Good for new revenue too!

Turn all the car spaces next to the existing parklet into one big space! Able bodied people can

park further away and walk (which is good for your health anyway). Then make many more of the car spots nearby disabled/pram parking.

They need to be of reasonable visual appeal such as the existing one.. I do find that perhaps next to or near traffic lights there is some issue with exhaust fumes perhaps.

I think it brings more people together sharing food and company being in this environment can enhance our health.

Taree has the ideal climate for streetside cafes and meeting areas in the European style. This should be encouraged.

Grow, adapt, innovate or wither on the vine - is there really a viable argument to sustain the tired old Taree !

I would like to see Victoria st one way between Pulteney and Manning st's, to allow for more such open space and outdoor activities. Then add a road, one way, where the path is at the back of the riverside park, with parallel parking bays to encourage visitors and locals to view and use the river and the park.

Turn Manning St an Pultney St into green corridors (no cars) from River Bank to Victoria St.

More locals sho8uld come out and enjoy!

No.

We need more in Taree.

Support any hanging baskets outside businesses.

Would love to see more night events where Victoria Street is closed (especially with more cultural food stalls)

Provide a competition for the best 'Parklet'

We did not come down when visiting to main street. Now very impressed.

Taree has more style.

Taree needs more social parklets that are pet friendly.

We need more of them.

:)

More focus on maintaining playgrounds and promoting the area would be better than more parking.

More of them!!! Heaps-Heaps

Make more parklets available! Create a great atmosphere. Furthermore, don't make the cost of the parklets prohibitive to the vendors/shops

There should be plans for multi level parking areas to alleviate parking congestion. This would allow for more parklets areas around the town.

As long as the parklets are well maintained they are a good idea and enhancement to the CBD

Town centres should attract foot traffic. They should be places where people feel comfortable and safe, able to relax and enjoy the passing parade. Pedestrians should take precedence over vehicles.

Taree would move ahead if we could reduce the objectors and wingers. The owner of the Sicilian has received so much abuse even prior to this parklet, on social media. It is appalling to think people in Taree like this exist.

I wonder how many members of the public actually do use it without eating at the Sicilian and if they are given a hard time by the restaurant owners if they do.

more please. maybe more transportable so can move to different locations

Well done to Council for taking on this initiative!

Let's be the first to be different!

Sufficient space needs to be maintained, and regularly inspected, for clear passage of pedestrians along the footway. 2 metres is inadequate and it should be 3 metres minimum. This also applies to occupation of the footway by adjacent commercial activities (cafes, retailers etc).

I think it would be great to introduce them to other streets like Pulteney and Manning Street which generally hold less appeal than Victoria Street. I think there has been some confusion with regard to the existing parklet about who can sit there given its proximity to The Sicilian, but I understand that The Sicilian have been instrumental in bringing this space about and for that they are to be applauded. Perhaps that can be considered if future parklets are designed and installed. I hope the parklet remains and I would like to see others installed in the CBD.

The removal of the already limited parking space is a real problem. More sitting space should be created without removing parking spaces. Also, much more attention to bicycle parking needs to be paid, including bike lanes throughout the town and to suburbs. This town looks like it's stuck in the 1970s without access for bikes, and without onstreet community spaces.

Promoting the general public use of the parklet

Extend the beautification along Pulteney and Manning Streets as well

Innovation and new ideas should be supported and encouraged

I dont think there should be any parking on the stretch of road on Victoria street between pulteney and Macquarie. it banks up cars and surprisingly makes it very congested on weekends and at peek times of the day from motorists that are waiting for parks and trying to reverse into parks

While I knew the parklet was for any member of the community, I think its location outside the Sicilian made it 'feel' like this wasn't the case. A more obvious public place might have been better as it seemed to mostly be a place for extra diners from Sicilian. I understand they paid for it, so fair enough that it was located there - but it did appear more like part of that restaurant than a public space.

It's a horrible spot to sit, with fumes and cars so close- I wouldn't use it in that spot, maybe elsewhere. Better to focus on the stunning river front that taree has- it's madness to get people sitting amoungst the cars when the river is ignored.

people can walk all around our malls to shop and not park right at the shops entrance so why must they complain about one car space used for a parklet. Maybe one outside of Cheeky Cheeries could be the next one.

Please think about utilising the river front more- such wasted space with the ugly rear of buildings. Think of ways to encourage people down there- a sculpture walk, cafés, kids activities.

I use the Main Street everyday and if I have to walk further due to limited parking in the area it will be my health that will benefit from it. People walking to the area would add to the atmosphere of the street. Please listen to the positive people as positivity will take our town forward.

Eventually little solar waterfountains within a parklet would be great for lizards and birds etc

Well done Council for giving it a go and bringing some life back into Victoria St. Cheers !!

Suggest beverage and food orders be from counter and give a number not have waiters "harass" members of public using the space to sit or meet by implying they they are expected to purchase something.

I would love to see that whole block turned into a mall. It would allow the business owners to utilize the outside areas and make the whole block very user friendly I think people would come to eat at the cafes and then wander the rest of the street. A bonus for the other businesses there.

Please consult residents prior to making changes that affect them. If council.consulted residents more often, residents would feel more empowered and more contented.

I would suggest that you don't just use one space, we live in a town with an aged population and events happen like people driving through the front of GPB partners window and are potential asking for trouble if you are encouraging parking on either side of the parklet, I would suggest filling the entire bay with a parklet and making it so that the Sicilian offer counter service to there only, no table service apart from the usual pavement tables that they own. My business would contribute to the funds required to make it happen as I'm sure would others. This will remove the pressure from Sicilian of the people who are against their idea by showing strength in numbers.

More parking spaces may have to be made available if you had say more than one or two parklets

No.

Let people know where they can park their cars. With hundreds of spots to park, they still complain and let them know it is one spot and has created more jobs in our town.

We have a beautiful river that is completely left out and minimal caravan/motorhome parking, we should be spending more time and money on those issues, NOT on silly private business adventures.

I strongly support the concept of parklets as one means of creating an interesting and vibrant town centre. I believe that Council should approve the parklet beyond the current trial period.

Why would anyone other than the Sicilian restaurant customers want to use it

As long as there is sufficient room for a public walkway and does not interfere with passing traffic.

Maybe instead of being located in the outdoor section of a restaurant, you could put tables and chairs just on the street. Like out the front of Spotlight and other areas that are quite wide.

There is a sign that says the parklet is available to all people but practically speaking I think that only Sicilian customers would use it. I would like to see more business out in the streets and therefore support more parklets.

Give us back our parking space|||

I'm keen to see how one would work in the "nose" in parking area of the street, it's starting to get a bit grating that everything in the vibrant spaces plan seems to be centred around Victoria st

Instead of beautifying the area at the front of the Sicilian Restaurant Council's time would be

Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii)

Page 19: Staff Report 1 - Attachment (ii) - Mid-Coast Council€¦ · time Taree will get more parking spaces but lets keep up the good work in the town centre and keep the good feel slowing

better spent working out what to do for the other struggling traders in Taree.

`Yes give us back our full libarary..The only people that use that cafe are staff in that building..There`s about 10 cafe`s within a 3 min walk .Isn`t education and resourses more valuble to the community than ANOTHER cafe half the time it`s closed anyway .I dont know what you infatuation is with cafe`s, but we`ve got enough of them without taking up road space

Where is this "Parklet". Do you mean the garden area outside "The Sicilean"? I understood that is only for the use of their customers.

Its great the area is trying to come up with ideas to boost the area !

Don't put it on the main street through town

Congratulations on this initiative and I hope more parklets are created soon

Parklets not attached to nor aligned with a café, but with fixed tables and chairs could be available for BYO lunches and as a meeting place

Great work - it looks good

Think of the rate payers for a change

Don't renew the lease.

See above. I feel that the very few Disabled spots are used by dinners who are not disabled!

I understand that the costs have been bourne by the business but this is not the point. A public amenity (carpark) has been changed to private use (although the parklet is available for public use, it is not used that way). Nevertheless, I applaud Council for trying something new. Even if I don't like this particular project, I have to respect that you're having a go.

Remove the annoying things.

I enjoy the look and idea of the parklet and would love more around Taree - but honestly I've never used it... and here's why! I don't go to the Sicilian to often and I would feel pressure to go and eat there if I wanted to sit in the parklet... the way it is closed off (a good example is the picture in your article "10 things you might want to know about the Victoria Street parklet") by plants really comes across as being part of the restaurant. I think the Sicilian is a great establishment and business in Taree, but I may not have even known it was up for community use unless I'd attended the council meeting or was a journalist! I suggest looking at the article "The 9 Coolest Parklets In S.F. For Outdoor R&R" by Refinery 29 - I have visited some of these parklets and found them to have a much more open design - making it feel more comfortable for community members to sit down without buying something. Also if things are designed locally (e.g. Russell's Saunders goanna carvings) with a unique spin, people are more responsive!

I like the parklet very much I personally wouldn't use to eat, I don't like the sound of traffic or exhaust fumes while eating, but much appreciated as a place to rest, as seating is scarce, for those that NEED to rest."Dark" looks and side comments from proprietors of business, makes it uncomfortable, and is difficult to navigate around, especially if you have a disability.I think the existing parklet is located in the wrong place.
