Community Development
To kick start the summer holidays, Denton Youth Club for 11-16
year olds (every Friday evening 7-9pm) hosted a specialist
graffiti art workshop. Young people learned about the history of
street art and how to respect the illustrative culture.
The decision has been made to increase nursery fees at Denton
Island Nursery by 15p per hour. This is the first increase in four
years.

Health & Well-being
Sue Starnes and Sharon Blight delivered a ‘Working with Suicidal Clients’ workshop last
Saturday 22nd August at Denton Island Community Centre. The workshop was attended by 10
people and was very well received, one attendee described it as ‘very valuable’. There has
been a lot of interest in this training so they will be arranging another workshop soon.
Most of the Healthy Lifestyles team attended the Newhaven Summer Sizzler event at Fort
Road Recreation Ground on Saturday 1st August. This community event was organised by the
Healthy Newhaven partnership to promote all aspects of health and well-being in the
town. Approximately 1200 people attended the event which offered a selection of health and
well-being, food & drink and community group stalls, live music, dance displays, sports activities
and lots more. The event was a great success and plans are to hold a similar one next year.
