What does the Society's logo mean?

• The St Vincent de Paul Society logo is used in many countries and is recognised everywhere as a symbol of hope and goodwill. The logo has three parts: • the hands symbol • the text and • the slogan.

What does the three hands mean?

• The Society's logo consists of three hands. The top hand, the hand of Christ, blesses the cup. The middle hand is the hand of love which offers the cup. The bottom hand is the hand of suffering which receives the cup.

What does this symbol reflect?This symbol of the hands truly reflects the

work of the members, volunteers and employees of the Society. The hand of giving shows our good works, the hand of suffering shows those we serve, and the hand of Christ is present, above all others. This acknowledges His strong presence in the relationship between ourselves and those we help ( holy spirit).

1. The hand of Christ blesses the cup:

• The first part of the logo talks about how the hand of Jesus blesses the cup before given to the disciples.

• The connection between the logo and Jesus is relevant because with the blessing of the cup of wine Jesus turns everything into purity and has the will to transform it into something more meaningful.

• St Vincent de Paul's society and helpers have the power and will to help others. This is shown through their passion and commitment to transform people’s lives from pain to joy. And is all because they believe and follow what Jesus has shown them and what he has done in his life to help and transform others.

2. The hand of love offers the cup:• This image involves the bottom hand

offering the cup of wine / the cup of love.• This reflects how Jesus offered his own

blood for the love of people and how through the cup of wine Jesus helps others both spiritual and physically.

• St Vincent de Paul does the same thing as Jesus as the love and help others. Through them helping others by providing food, clothes and shelter, they like Jesus offer the cup of wine and the cup of love ( as seen in the picture, p.67).

3. The hand of suffering receives the cup:• The third meaning of this symbol

represent the disciples and others in the community receiving and accepting the cup of wine.

• The volunteers are the people that lend a hand to the needy people in their society. They give them many gifts such as food, shelter, furniture, clothes and love.

• The suffering people receive the help of the volunteers.
