Reflection on Our Cover
At our baptism, we became God’s adopted sons and daugh-ters. We pray to God as beloved sons and daughters, asking that God will be “well pleased” with us, and that God will direct us in the way of serving the needs of others so that we may “do good” and bring healing to a wounded world. • Do you think of your baptism as committing you to a life
of service?

PASTOR’S VISIT TO CONFIRMATION HOME GROUP
I had the pleasure of visiting one of the Confirmation Home Groups on Tuesday January 04, 2011. Tammi Grigg who runs this group as their catechist had invited me weeks before to join the cooking and the dinner at her home. I accepted the invitation readily and arrived at her elegant home. The Confirmation candidates in this group who were present were: Rebecca (Tammi’s daughter), Kim, Andrew, Angelique, Gabriella, Jackie, and her sister Jessica. The candidates helped Tammi with cooking a delicious meal. It was a meal they were all working together on. I can assure you that in this case the many cooks didn’t spoil the broth! Cooking a meal together seemed both social and spiritual at the same time. Is that why the Kingdom of God is always referred to as a banquet? Look at the number of times Jesus feeds the hungry and speaks about meals in his parables and teachings. Perhaps families should turn their TVs and computers and cell phones off in the evenings and sit together for the sacred time of family dinners. This might help and heal everyone and im-prove communication dramatically. It’s my opinion that cooking is one of the most creative things in the world. One of my secret wishes is to become a chef and a bartender! Maybe, in the next life! Do you think God might grant me these desires in the heavenly banquet? The advantage is that when you cook a meal for others, you make them happy. When you see others happy, you are happy yourself. When you fix a cocktail for someone, it seems to make you more happy than those enjoying the drink. At dinner (caprese salad, chicken scaloppini with mushroom sauce, pasta, stringed beans, olive bread, polenta, brownies, and ice cream), everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I was impressed with these young people’s quality of life. When I asked each of them to make a short prayer to Jesus, they made beautiful prayers of thanks for gifts given to them and for the meal. The prayer Tammi Grigg made to Jesus about how pre-cious these young Confirmation candidates are moved me to tears. She also expressed the conviction that these young peo-ple will always be part of her life. I also met Tammi’s husband Eric and son Brian---all of them gracious hosts indeed. I chatted with each of the candidates and got to know them. We also spoke about continuing the Faith and Masses after the Confirmation is completed. Also we shared about how their parents are the ones who love them truly for who they are, and consequently how grateful these young people need to be to their own parents for all the blessings.
They were all excited about receiving the sacrament of Confir-mation on February 13, 2011. In preparation, they will have the retreat on January 29 and 30th on our campus. I wish all the Confirmation candidates an enjoyable journey of discovering themselves and their faith and values during the preparation period. I also would love to see them in church AFTER they have received the sacrament. If they could see a bit more clearly that the Catholic faith is one of the influential ways in which they could be human and spiritual, it would be a most wonderful gift to them. I know the parents are busy with many things, but nourishing their children’s faith by bringing them to church needs to be one of the priorities. I also wish to thank the catechists and Karen Guglielmoni for sharing their own faith through the home groups and other activities. I invite the whole parish to keep in their prayers these young women and men who will receive Confirmation on February 13. May the fire of the Holy Spirit set their hearts on fire! Your friend and pastor,
Father Charles Puthota

The St. Veronica Giving Tree Committee wishes to thank everyone who participated in this year’s outreach efforts. The response was absolutely over-whelming. Once again your generosity was able to bring more than a little cheer to those
in greater need from Catholic Worker Hospitality House, St. Vincent de Paul, St. Catherine’s Shelter & Women’s Shelter in San Francisco. Following is an excerpt from a postcard we received from Peter Stiehler of Catholic Worker House. “Dear Friends, Thank you for the abundance of gifts from the Giving Tree Project. It was your generosity which enabled us to provide gifts to ALL our guests this Christmas. Happy New Year.”
Planning Your Summer Wedding at St. Veronica Church?
The policy of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Fran-cisco states that arrangements for marriage are to be made at least six months in advance. These months are meant to give couples the opportunity for prayerful reflection on Christian marriage and for consideration of their future life as "two who will be made one." Your first step is to call our rectory office at 650-588-1455 to schedule an appointment to meet with a member of the clergy. During the initial meeting, preliminary information will be taken and an evaluation of your readiness to marry will be as-sessed. Other information will be provided regarding the Mar-riage Preparation Program and FOCUS questionnaire. You will also have the opportunity to set up future meetings with clergy, our wedding coordinator and music director who will all work with you in preparing your special day. Calendars fill up quickly and schedules get busy, so don't delay in setting up your initial wedding appointment.

Simbang Gabi Appreciation
The Simbang Gabi Planning Committee would like to extend a sincere “Thank You” to all the faithful who participated and contributed to the success of our Fourth Simbang Gabi Advent Novena Masses. With the support of sponsors and donors, we were able to continue offering liturgical and fellowship cele-brations in preparation for the coming of our Lord Jesus this Christmas. We are richly blessed to share with each other various cultural traditions in praising and preparing for the birth of Christ. Visit www.stveronicassf.com for pictures of the events.
