While at Christmas we celebrate Jesus’ coming as the long-awaited king and Messiah of the Jewish people, on Epiphany we celebrate the revelation that Jesus is the Savior and Light of all nations—Jews, Gentiles, and all people. The star shines so brightly that it attracts magi who come from far distant countries to worship Jesus. They are not Jews, yet they are drawn to the Light of the world. The letter to the Ephesians re- veals that the Light of the world was for the Gen- tiles as well as the Jews—Christ gathers all people into the light of his love. While at Christmas we celebrate Jesus’ coming as the long-awaited king and Messiah of the Jewish people, on Epiphany we celebrate the revelation that Jesus is the Savior and Light of all nations—Jews, Gentiles, and all people. BLESSED SACRAMENT ADORATION

I am always amazed in the many ways that God communicates with all of us and reveals his great-ness and love. Sometimes it may happen in the places or with people that we least expect. Yet, God always communicates with all of us all the time. This weekend we are celebrating the Epiphany. The word epiphany means a revelation or a manifestation of some sort. Spiritually speaking, Jesus Christ is the greatest revelation and manifestation of God’s love and mercy to all of us: through the sacraments and miracles, answered prayers through the intercession of the saints and the events that we experience everyday of our lives. As we begin this New Year, I will pray that all of us might con-tinue to spiritually be aware and be thankful for the many ways that God communicates his love, mercy, compassion to all of us. As we begin a new year, may God continue to bless our families and parish of St. Thomas, Fr. Abel

    R. Alleluia, alleluia. We saw his star at its rising and have come to do

    him homage. R. Alleluia, alleluia.

    R. Aleluya, aleluya.

R. Aleluya.

When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage.” When King Herod heard this, he was greatly troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, He inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet: And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; since from you shall come a ruler, who is to shepherd my people Israel.” Then Herod called the magi secretly and ascertained from them the time of the star’s appearance. He sent them to Bethle-hem and said, “Go and search diligently for the child. When you have found him, bring me word, that I too may go and do him homage.” After their audience with the king they set out. And behold, the star that they had seen at its ris-ing preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him hom-age. Then they opened their treasures and of-fered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to re-turn to Herod, they departed for their country by another way.
