HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE CHURCH The feast of Pentecost is often referred to as the birthday of the Church. It is called that because Pentecost is when the apostles went out among the people and began spreading Jesus’ message after receiving the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit, thus establishing the beginning of the Church. You can celebrate this birthday at Mass of course, by wearing red to represent the Holy Spirit and the tongues of fire, maybe eat off a red tablecloth or use red plates.

WORK FOR CHRIST AS A EUCHARISTIC MINISTER Serve at the Table of the Lord as a Eucharistic Minister. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion [EMHC] help distribute the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Many of our ministers are deeply touched by the Real Presence as they see others come forward and receive. Contact Steve Wolford, [email protected].
HELP US PREPARE OUR CHURCH FOR WORSHIP The Altar Care Ministry is in need of a few good souls to help prepare the church for mass each week. The main tasks include filling the candles with paraffin oil, some brass polishing, straightening of the worship books and ensuring that the altar is dressed in the appropriate cloth and the priest's vestments are laid out. Training and written instructions will be provided and mentors assigned. The commitment is 1-1.5 hours every 5 weeks. If interested in this beautiful ministry, please contact Peggy Miller, 512-296-7347, [email protected]
Human life in all its stages is sacred and human beings are called to care for life, that is, to exercise good stewardship and not absolute control. The bishops recog-nize that abortion, euthanasia, and the death penalty are not the same issue, but they each point to the same fundamental value: safeguarding the sanctity of life. (Kenneth R. Overberg, S.J.)

LIVING THE GOSPEL
Pentecost Sunday The Gospel for Pentecost Sunday
echoes the Second Sunday of
Easter – Jesus breathing the Holy
Spirit of peace and forgiveness
upon the disciples. The reading
from Acts shows how the Spirit in
them reverses the tower of Babel
story by having the many all hear
and understand. How is the Spirit
working in us to bring peace,
forgiveness and understanding to
our world?

DO YOU NEED HELP DISCERNING GOD’S WILL FOR YOU? Maybe a spiritual director can help bring clarity as you discern your faith journey. Spiritual directors and mentors help guide a person to truly live their life under the influence of the Holy Spirit by listening and responding to the action of the Holy Spirit. At St. Theresa we are blessed to have at least four parishioners who are trained spiritual directors or spiritual mentors:
Sr. Ann Pennington [email protected]
Thank you to these four for offering their time and talents to help others on their faith journey. The season of Pentecost is a perfect time to look closer at how the Holy Spirit is working in your life. Learn more about Spiritual Direction on our website at sttaustin.org/spiritual-mentorship.
