The Secretary General Association of African Universities
.
Dear Sir/Madam,
ENDORSEMENT OF PROF. VICTOR OLUSEGEN TAIWO FOR ECOWAS —AUU STAFF
EXCHANGE PROGRAMME
I am pleased to write to you as the Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM), College
of Health Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi,
Ghana to support the application of Prof. Victor Olusegen TAIWO for ECOWAS-AUU STAFF
EXCHANGE PROGRAMME, which when approved, will be spent in the Department of
Pathobiology of our school.
Our School of Veterinary Medicine is a young school established in August 2009 to run six-year
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Programme. One of our challenges is inadequate staff strength, as
such, the school relies so much on Part-Time and Visiting Lecturers.
Professor V.O. Taiwo was highly recommended to me by Dr. Ben Emikpe who spent sabbatical leave in our School of Veterinary Medicine and a beneficiary of the ECOWAS-AUU STAFF EXCHANGE PROGRAMME. Professor V.O. Taiwo is the current Head, Department of Veterinary Pathology, and former Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He has assessed the publications of some of our faculty members for promotion to higher positions within the last two years, duties which were conducted to the satisfaction of our University. Additionally, there is a lot of information on Prof. Taiwo’s outstanding academic and research activities on the internet.
I am very hopeful that Professor V.O. Taiwo will teach Clinical Pathology to our undergraduate
students, an area where we need his expertise, and also contribute to mentoring of our young
faculty members in research and teaching. Additionally, he is expected to assist in the
supervision of project work of final year students in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
programme.
I, therefore, recommend Professor V.O. Taiwo for the ECOWAS-AUU STAFF EXCHANGE programme to give him the opportunity to contribute to teaching, research and mentoring of our young faculty and provide other services that will contribute to the development of Veterinary Education in Ghana.
Yours faithfully,
Prof. Raphael D. Folitse
