Gandhi Jayanti will also be celebrated at Port Blair with befitting programmes. The main function will be held at Gandhi Statue, Mohanpura, from 8.25 to 9.15 am. The Lt. Governor, A&N Islands will lead the Islanders in offering floral tributes to 150 th birth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi on Oct 2 Mahatma Gandhi during the function. A two minutes' silence will also be observed followed by presentation of Prayers and Ramdhuns by different groups and Teachers/ Students of Education Department. The Lt Governor will also witness spinning of khadi at the programme venue. Prior to this, the Lt Governor will offer floral tributes at the Gandhi Statue in the Gandhi Park near Dilthaman Tank at 8.15 am, followed by other dignitaries. Prayers will also be presented by Teachers/School students. All the Govt. Departments, Institutions, Autonomous bodies, Corporations, Panchayat Pradhans, Voluntary organizations and villagers have been requested to create community assets by Shramdaan and to conduct special drive for cleanliness in the month under the ‘Swacchta Hi Seva’ Campaign of the Govt. of India. Further, the general public have also been requested to refrain from slaughtering of animals, killing of birds, fish catching and consuming liquor on this auspicious day.
