April 15, 2007 Page 2 JOINING THE COMPANY OF BELIEVERS

What will help you to believe? Today’s scripture readings tell of faith and doubt. They offer stories “recorded to help you believe,” as the passage from John’s Gospel (20:31) remarks today. There is an urgency about this. On this second Sunday of Easter we are challenged to join the company of believers—countless men and women who witnessed the power of the Apostles’ faith.

There is no doubt that this power comes from Jesus Christ. The second reading, from the book of Revelation, reports John’s mystical vision of the Son of Man, who proclaims, “Once I was dead, but now I live” (Revelation 1:18). The Gospel gathers everyone but Thomas to see the Risen Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit from him. Like Thomas, we who have come along later must have faith so that we can have life.

Second Sunday of Easter Page 3 A Message From

Fr. Mike THE RISEN LIGHT OF CHRIST

One of the meaningful symbols of the Easter Vigil is the service of light. The Paschal Candle is brought through the Church in solemn procession, pushing back the darkness. This Easter Candle represents the Risen Light of Christ, which pushes back the darkness about life’s meaning.

This year we were blessed with thirty nine people who joined our St. Teresa of Avila Catholic community at the vigil service. Once the Paschal Candle reached the sanctuary area, our new fellow pilgrims lit their candles from the Christ Candle and passed on the light until the candles of all were lit. The symbolism was breathtaking: with each person holding their lit candle the darkness disappeared in the Church—Christ has blessed us with the light of His Risen Presence.

On entering our Church on Easter morning, you could not but be struck by the tasteful flowers and ambiance that declared Christ is risen. My faith is always strengthened by the example of my fellow parishioners. The attendance at daily Mass during Lent, the stations of the cross, reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the Holy Week ceremonies, the RCIA, the hope of our sick parishioners, the joy of our children, the quiet example of our liturgy ministers and the unselfish giving of all.

The Risen Lord who is so present in His people, and our Blessed Mother will guide us and abide with us in the year ahead.

God Bless, Fr. Mike

Let us welcome and congratulate the following RCIA students into our parish community:

Giggles: A little tot, at Mass for the first time, watched the ushers pass the collection plates. When they neared the pew, she piped up so loudly that everyone could hear: “Don’t pay for me, Daddy, I’m under five!”

A Little Boy in Church: He ruffles through his hymn book, he fumbles with his tie, he laces up his oxfords, he overworks a sigh; He goes through all his pockets, engrossed in deep research; There’s no one quite so busy as a little boy in Church.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS

Religious Education classes resume this weekend. We hope you had a very blessed Easter.

A reminder that the fourth and fifth grade RCIC students who received their First Holy Communion at the Easter Vigil need to return to their classes to finish out this years instruction.

Food Drive: THANK YOU to those who contributed to our food drive. The confirmation class collected over 2000 food items from our parish. All food items were donated to the Auburn Interfaith Food Closet. While the RE Confirmation class has now ended their service project, we ask that you continue to remember the Food Closet by donating food items at least once a month. Our food bins are located inside three of the doors of the Church.

Every voice counts.”

Activities: Welcome & issue briefing, Mass, March to the Capitol, rally and legislative visits.

Cost is $5.00 which includes lunch. You can pick a registration form up at the parish office. Registrations forms are due Tuesday, April 17, 2007.

The season of Lent was an important time in the faith of our young students. We prayed the Stations of the Cross, received the Sacrament of Reconciliation, went to Holy Mass, celebrated the culture of Rwanda with Father Innocent, and learned about the traditions of Passover and the observance of the Seder meal. Sadly, we also said goodbye to our friend and classmate Connor Coen. As a community, we have been touched by this special, faithfilled young man and his family in many ways. We know that he is a new angel watching over us. Please keep Connor, his family, and all of our students in your prayers.

We are busy planning for the graduation of our current eighth grade class, and registering students for next year. If there are any families in our Parish community who might consider enrolling in St. Joseph School, please contact me at school. I am always ready to discuss the strengths of St. Joseph School and a Catholic education. On Thursday, April 19 th we will be holding our annual Education Fair from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the parish hall. Anyone interested in learning more about the school and seeing the accomplishments of our students is welcome to join us here at school that evening.

Yours in Christ, Jonathan Molnar

We hope everyone had a blessed and wonderful Easter.

We look forward to seeing everyone tonight, 6:15pm

after the 5:00pm youth Mass in the parish hall. The last three youth meetings have been really awesome with 20 plus youths coming and meeting new friends.

So don’t forget, come and mingle, and bring a friend. Food will be served, so come hungry!
