NOTE: If you would like to bring up the offertory gifts during a Mass that is scheduled for a family member or friend, please see the ushers before Mass.
PLEASE NOTE: If you need to have Communion brought to you at your seat, please notify the ushers before Mass.
THEME: THE LORD HAS BETROTHED HIMSELF TO US IN CHRIST JESUS AND WE ARE NOT ABANDONED – The wedding at Cana has Jesus at the heart of the celebration. He is present now as we gather to celebrate. Here, today, he bestows upon us his blessings and his gifts- bringing forth faith and reassuring us of his fidelity and abundant grace.
LITURGY OF THE WORD – In relaying the words of the the Lord to Israel, Isaiah uses the image of a marriage to describe the relationship between God and his Chosen People. Saint Paul reminds us that the Spirit gives many different gifts to be used to build up the community. The Gospel tells the story of Jesus’ first miracle – turning water into wine at the wedding feast at Cana.
COMMUNION FOR THE HOMEBOUND – If someone in your family or a neighbor is homebound, in a nursing home, in the hospital or recovering at home after a hospital stay and would like a visit and Communion, our Deacon, Frank Marino, and other Eucharistic ministers are available to make those calls. Please call the rectory to arrange for a visit.

NEW MINISTRY OF GREETERS – As I mentioned this past weekend, we are going to begin a new ministry here at St. Stephen. It is the Ministry of Greeters. The Greeter’s Ministry is committed to greeting, reaching out and receiving people to worship entering the Church. The Greeter assists worshipers in a hospitable manner entering the Church to hear the Word of God and to celebrate the Eucharist. Fostering fellowship with men, women and children and giving the best initial worship experience entering the Church proper is the Ministry of Greeter. The Greeters welcome regular members and visitors with a smile and a handshake as they enter the doors. Greeters also direct worshipers to the Ushers if there are special needs or requests. Please contact the rectory or tell Fr. Korda after Mass if you are interested. The new ministry will begin on the First Sunday of Lent when a new schedule will be made. Thank you for considering this special and important ministry. Fr. Korda

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE BY BUD OZAR – At Cana, we get a good insight into Mary’s parenting style. She did not plead, argue, demand or manipulate. She merely pointed out the situation and trusted her son would make the best decision.
NCWC – Committee 3 will meet on Tuesday, January 22 at 12:30 at Salvatore’s Restaurant, 8720 E. Market Street, Howland. Alida Lendvay will be hostess.
SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 20, 2019
CHURCH OVERSEAS COMBINED COLLECTION – Catholics around the country have always responded to the needs of people everywhere. Next weekend, the Diocese of Youngstown will hold the Church Overseas Combined Collection in order to assist the Church in its ministries throughout the world. This combined collection supports four major overseas services: Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Holy Father/Peter’s Pence, the Church in Central and Eastern Europe and the Church in Latin America. Please remember, as we move toward the season of Lent, to support these important programs of charity in the Church.
STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT – “To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.” (1 Corinthians 12:7) – St. Paul tells us that God has blessed each of us for a reason. How has God blessed you? Are you using your gifts according to God’s plan? How are you helping to build God’s kingdom here on earth? Remember that if you don’t do the work God planned for you, no one else can do it. Live the life God has intended for you; feel His love, peace and joy!
DEAR FATHER KORDA:Thank you and the parishioners of St. Stephen Church for your generous donation of $1,251.04 to support our 2018 First Step for Change campaign.Catholic Charities is often an “agency of last resort” for many who find themselves in a financial crisis. Your support for First Step for Change enables us to provide food, formula, diapers and other forms of material assistance to pregnant women and families with children ages 0-3 in our community. By providing help, you enable Catholic Charities to continue to minister to those who struggle around us and to provide hope for a brighter tomorrow.May God bless you and your parish for upholding the dignity and value of human life by supporting First Step for Change.Sincerely,Nikole Baringer, Grants and Projects Coordinator –Catholic Charities, Diocese of Youngstown.
LUCK OF THE IRISH 2019 – Be sure to mark your calendar and save March 16 for our annual Luck of the Irish event! More details to follow.
VOCATION VIEW – “To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.” Have you been given the Spirit for the benefit of serving the Church as a priest, deacon or a consecrated religious? Explore the possibilities by contacting Fr. Christopher Luoni (330) 744-8451, or by email: [email protected].
KEEP THE KIDS WARM CAMPAIGN – (CATHOLIC CHARITIES) – When poor and working poor families face a set-back, such as an unexpected medical expense, missing work
due to a sick child, or vehicle repairs, the consequences can lead to a serious financial crisis. Sometimes there is not enough money left to cover all of the monthly expenses— including the utility bill. Keep the Kids Warm is Catholic Charities’ annual campaign to provide utility assistance to families with children during the cold winter months. Please support Keep the Kids Warm by visiting our website to learn more (www.ccdoy.org), praying for those impacted by poverty, and by making a gift online. Thank you for your generosity.
