First Reading — You will be given this sign: The virgin shall conceive and bear a son (Isaiah 7:10-14). Psalm — Let the Lord enter; he is king of glory (Psalm 24). Second Reading — God has called us to belong to Jesus Christ (Romans 1:1-7). Gospel — The son born of Mary shall be called Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins (Matthew 1:18-24). Today’s Meditation

On this final Sunday of Advent our scriptures focus on the historical birth of Jesus, who is son of David and Son of God, child and king, Jesus and Emmanuel. Isaiah the prophet begs Ahaz to ask for a sign, to allow God to offer him reassurance of the survival of the Davidic dynasty. The king hypocritically refuses to “tempt the LORD” in that way (Isaiah 7:12), but the prophet foretells the birth of

a son, an heir to the throne, who will prove the Lord’s enduring protection of God’s chosen lineage on the throne of David. The child will be called Emmanuel. Matthew’s reference to this history in his description of the birth of Jesus highlights the contrast between the faithless refusal of trust shown by Ahaz, and the complete trust in God shown by Mary and Joseph in bringing about the birth of Jesus Christ. Our Mission Statement

In recognition of God’s love and presence in every human being, the members of Saint Stanislaus Parish embrace the challenge to serve God and all His people. In fellowship with one another, we nurture our Catholic Faith through the celebration of the sacraments and reflection on the word of God. As a welcoming and culturally diverse Faith Community, we strive to proclaim and live the good News of Jesus Christ while providing for the spiritual and physical needs of those less fortunate.

for every affair under the heavens. —Ecclesiastes 3

We will reserve this space for the purpose of sharing with our parishioners some of the times in our lives when one of ours is born or we mourn a loss or to celebrate a time to laugh or a time to dance. Please let us know by calling Rebecca in the office at 675-2336, if there is something you would like to share.

  • Come and Join Our Team

If you can share a bit of your time, Father Roger would like to invite you to join the many who help to make our Liturgy the beautiful celebration that it is. We are in need of Sacristans for our Saturday evening Masses. We also need Ushers, Readers and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. Father meets periodically to plan the Liturgy and he would like to have a Liturgical Coordinator for the Saturday evening Masses that would take part in this planning process. If you would like to participate in any of these Ministries please call the office at 910-675-2336 or Rae Kudro at 910-520-3200 for more information. We would be glad to help you in any way we can.

    Evangelization News!

These excerpts each week come from the book Pillar of Fire Pillar of Truth.

God constantly uses material things to show his love and power. After all, matter is not evil. When he created the physical universe, everything God created was “very good” (Gen. 1:31). He takes such delight in matter that he even dignified it through his own Incarnation (John 1:14). During his earthly ministry Jesus healed, fed and strengthened people through humble elements such as mud, water, bread, oil, and wine. He could have performed his miracles directly, but he preferred to use material things to bestow his grace. In his first public miracle Jesus turned water into wine at the request of his mother, Mary (John 2:1-11). He healed a blind man by rubbing mud on his eyes (John 9:1-7). He multiplied a few loaves and fish into a meal for thousands (John 6:5-13). He changed bread and wine into his own body and blood (Matt. 26:26-28). Through the sacraments he continues to heal, feed, and strengthen us.
