The Most Holy Trinity May 27, 2018

While I was in Lourdes with the Order of Malta I met with the leadership of the

Order of Malta which supports the Holy Family Hospital of Bethlehem Foundation. I’m sure

you remember we supported this wonderful Malta endeavor in our Lenten appeal of 2017.

Decades of conflict in Bethlehem have resulted in extreme hardship for many families. A dire

economic situation in the area worsened by road closures, curfews and security check points impacted women and

babies who often require specialized care. Thanks to the help of St. Rose and many other parishes throughout our

country, the Holy Family Hospital were able to:

Provide prenatal care and delivery for over 4,300 babies last year.

Provide neonatal intensive care for over 420 premature infants last year.

Provide healthcare for refugee camps through their mobile outreach clinic.

Provide sponsorship for continuing education for doctors, nurses and midwives.

Through working together, Christian and Muslim professionals fostered

peace and unity through medicine and healthcare. As I reflected upon our sacrifice for Lent 2017, I felt proud of

the impact we have made in this ongoing effort to provide support and medical assistance to many women and

babies who are living below the poverty line. These days we hear a lot of discussion with regard to the Gaza Strip.

It is important to remember that many families who have lived in what is now Israel territory for many centuries

are now suffering because of lack of employment, proper housing, in essence, many people feel hopeless and

helpless.

In this weekend’s Gospel, we hear that the 11 went with Jesus to the Mount where He ascended up to

Heaven. In the number 11 we understand there is a fracture; one apostle hurt and betrayed the others. Sadly we

still live in a world where betrayal and hurt are a part of the lives of many. We here in East Hanover, through the

grace of God, live peace filled and comfortable lives. As Catholic Christians we are blessed to bring the Gospel

values to many and this Memorial Day weekend I thank God for the love and support which, enveloped by our

prayers, give sustenance to those in need who presently live in the lands where Jesus walked and ministered to so

many.

Several years ago the parishes of our diocese began a summer outreach to help replenish the food pantries

in Paterson, Passaic and Dover. This has been very effective in helping to restock food pantries in areas where

there is great poverty. St. Rose of Lima has been asked to provide any type of canned soup. We will place the

parish truck in the parking lot for the Feast of Corpus Christi calling to mind that we, who are the Body of Christ,

gives sustenance to our fellow brothers and sisters who are in need. For your convenience, the truck will be in

front of the church from this Friday morning June 1st until Monday afternoon, June 4

th.

Next weekend, as is our tradition, for the Feast of Corpus Christi, we will have a Eucharistic procession

outside (weather permitting) following the 10:00am Mass. Please try to join us for this beautiful Catholic tradition.

Congratulations to Anthony Forgione and Emily Schum, St. Rose of Lima Alumni, and to Kelly Pierson,

who were recognized as Morris Catholic Scholar Athletes on May 23rd

. We’re very proud of all of you!

Happy Memorial Day!
