religious. A parishioner writes, “As a Catholic school student from grades K-12, I was formed to be the person I am by many reli-gious brothers and sisters, and I am forever grateful.” Show your thanks for the senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests who made a positive difference in so many lives. Give to
those who have given a lifetime. Senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests worked for many years for little, if any, pay. Their sacrifices now leave their religious communities without adequate savings for retirement. Your gift to today’s second collec-tion for the Retirement Fund for Religious helps to provide pre-scription medications, nursing care, and more for thousands of eld-erly religious. Please be generous.

V ibrancy Tool Thanks to all who have completed the first
five sections of the Survey on Parish Vibrancy. We have just two more sections (WORD –formation of faith and WORSHIP-prayer life) to complete before the surveys are sent to the chancery for tabulation. Once we have the results, we can discuss the health of our parishes and see what we might grow in the Year of Faith.
G ive us this day There are plenty of Large Print December issue copies of this daily and Sunday Missal and
commentary for everyone at the back of the churches. Please take a copy home with you and use it to prepare for the daily or Sunday Mass.
C hristmas Memorial Donations to help cover the
costs of Christmas flowers, decorations and choir music may be placed in an envelop labeled Christmas Décor (with your name if you would like the donation recorded) and the name(s) of those whom you wish to remember. These names will be printed in the bulletin as the intention for the masses on Christmas Day.
From Deacon Rick….

JERUSALEM’S GLORY God’s town, Jerusalem, has a
new name: “Peace through justice and the glory of God’s worship.” Standing up on the heights, Jerusalem gathers all God’s people to look out for the Messiah’s coming. Zecha-riah and Elizabeth’s son, John, proclaimed in the desert a baptism of repentance. “Prepare for the Messiah, the anointed one,” he cried. “Make his paths straight. Fill up the valleys, and level the mountains...and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.” Text, Philip J. Sand-strom, STD © 2000, OCP. All rights reserved.
EVERY LOFTY MOUNTAIN MADE LOW Baruch had one of the more unusual backgrounds of all the prophets. He was a private
secretary to another prophet, Jeremiah. He lived during the Jewish exile in Babylon (Iraq). Follow-ing Jeremiah's lead, he preached that the exile would end. He said that the people of Israel would return home in triumph. Baruch pictures moun-tains being leveled to facilitate this homecoming. The "mountains" are the political obstacles to be hurdled before it could happen. The church cites this passage to suggest a cosmic preparation for the coming of the Son of God.
Welcome to our Tri-Parish Community! Visitors are always welcome at our celebrations. For information about joining one of our three parish communities

Second Sunday of Advent
This Sunday Luke carefully dates the begin-ning of John the Baptist's ministry by setting it in the 15th year of the reign of Emperor Augustus: 29 AD. He notes that Herod Anti-pas, son of Herod the Great, was "tetrarch" of Galilee, that is, a “quarter ruler”. After Herod the Great's death, Rome decided to divide up the kingdom of Israel so that no one person would hold all of the power. Herod Antipas is mentioned frequently. It is he who sentenced John the Baptist to death.

God Bless! LZ Chair
Thanks to everyone who supported SHS

Choose Life As we prepare to cele-
brate Christmas, there are many depictions of Mary with her just born-child resting in the manger. Contrast this with a widely circu-lated photo of a young Chinese woman and her dead unborn child beside her in the hospi-tal bed, both victims of a government-sanctioned, forced abortion. What a graphic photo of the reality of abortion, a desolate mother and a dead infant.
