ST. VINCENT DEPAUL On September 27, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Vincent de Paul, who knew that “God had sent him to bring good news to the poor.” Together with your gifts, the members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul continue his work and mission in our parish. In the month of September, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to “bring good news to the poor,” by assisting families, providing food and assistance for utility and rent bills, etc. Thank You!

Dear Friends,

On this, the Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, we heard the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. This parable interprets our first reading from the prophet Amos who condemns those who hoard their own wealth. Both scripture passages are about choices that we make in this life. The rich man did nothing to Lazarus. However, he did nothing for him either. He didn’t even know Lazarus existed. That was his problem. His sin was not in directly causing the suffering of another, it was in overlooking and ignoring his suffering. For us in our consumer culture of today, this is an easy trap to fall into. This week’s challenge for us is to pray for and use our compassionate eyes to see the needs and sufferings around us and to reach out in Christian love to do what we can to alleviate it.

This past week we once again celebrated the wonderful devotion of 40 Hours. This truly was a time of grace. To be able to peacefully come to the Lord in prayer and adoration was a special gift. We as a parish have much to be thankful for and Forty Hours is an opportunity to express this gratitude. As with all parish events, there are many people involved with the details which make the time special for all. I want to express my gratitude to the Liturgy Committee for planning the devotions. In particular I wish to thank Father Biedrzycki for the devotional booklet as well as Joan Fitzpatrick for her guidance and the behind the scenes details. I am grateful to Deacon George, Deacon Edisson, Father Sean English, our guest homilist, as well as to the choir and cantors under the direction of Kevin Lutz our Director of Music. I wish to acknowledge the altar servers and ushers who assisted each night. Most importantly, I wish to thank all of you who attended the evening devotions and those who came throughout the nights to stand vigil with the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Your sacrifice of a good night’s rest will reap abundant blessings for you and those you love. Thank you, one and all!

As I mentioned in last week’s bulletin, the cornerstone is now in place marking the expansion of the narthex and parish office center. Within the sealed container behind the date stone are the following, in no order of importance; the rosters of the Facilities Committee members, the Finance Council member, the Pastoral Council members, the Fundraising Committee, the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, the Lectors, the Altar Servers, the Sacristans, the Daily Mass Adult servers, our seminarians, and the Roster of all the Donors to the Capital Campaign “Building on our Faith…Expanding our Legacy.” Also included are the builders (CH&E) project proposal, the architects (KCBA) project proposal and renderings, the landscape architects (Northampton Nursery) Prayer Garden renderings, the Saint Robert Bellarmine 40th Anniversary Publication of 2008, the Saint Joseph/Saint Robert School Yearbook of 2016, a copy of the Parish Bulletin announcing the projects as well as the materials created by our committee for the Capital Campaign. As you can see, a great majority of the community is now captured for posterity within the time capsule for this project.

Just a reminder to the parish Finance Committee, there is a meeting scheduled for Monday, September 26 at 7PM in the Parish Office Center. If you cannot attend, please notify Deacon George as soon as possible.

As we enter the season of autumn, let the beauty of nature and its brilliance of color remind you of the wonderful care the Lord has for all of His creation!

Saint Robert Bellarmine, pray for us!

With prayers,

JUST A THOUGHT: During last week’s Home and School meeting, I had the opportunity to share our school’s results on last spring’s Terra Nova tests. In addition, I showed a comparison of our students’ results with those of the Archdiocese and also the Catholic elementary schools of Bucks County. I am very happy – and proud! – to report that our students did beautifully!

At the end of my presentation, I showed a short video on “Grit” by Angela Duckworth. Studies show that Grit is an important factor in determining not only success in school but in life. Much is being written about Grit these days, but one pneumonic may prove helpful for all of us:

Give it your all. Redo if necessary. Ignore giving up. Take time to do it right.

FOCUS ON FAITH TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME

Amos 6:1a,4-7; 1 Timothy 6:11-16; Luke 16:19-31

About this week’s readings…

Woe to the Complacent (Amos 6:1a, 4-7) Through the

prophet Amos, God warns the rich who are

complacent. Those who live in high style and forget

the needs of the poor will be punished. Wake up, you

who are lazy! Blessed is the one who secures justice

for the oppressed. Blessed is the one who gives food

to the hungry.

Pursue Righteousness (1 Timothy 6:11-16)

Paul reminds Timothy to seek the righteousness of

God by being devout, faithful, loving, patient, and

gentle. We walk the path of righteousness for the

sake of faith. We keep the command of Jesus to love

God and one another.

What We Have Received (Luke 16: 19-31)

In the parable, the rich man’s comfortable lifestyle is

contrasted with the poor man on his doorstep. A

reckoning comes in the next life. Their stations are

reversed. What we have received from God in this

world and how we use it for the common good

becomes the measure of our eternal comfort or

discomfort.

God of the lowly, open our eyes and hearts to see the

downtrodden, the broken-hearted, the ailing, the poor,

and to see in them the image of your Son.

Give us the strength and courage to

respond to their needs.

To register go to www.catholicwomensconference.org/
