"But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his master's money." This servant
was scared. He didn't want to take any risks and just want-
ed to play everything safe. As he confesses to his master,
"Out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground." And the master was not pleased. The other serv-
ants who invested the money he gave them were richly
rewarded for their efforts to produce more. But this serv-ant was punished for letting his fear rule the day.
What factors are keeping us from making a return on
God's investment in us? He has given us all life, and each of us also has a special collection of "talents" to make use
of. We have certain gifts, skills, experiences, resources,
and abilities that (though we may not often think about it)
come from God. He calls us to make the most of these things, not just to take them for granted or bury them in
the ground, so to speak. Our gifts are meant not just for
our own enjoyment, but to help others, to spread truth and goodness and beauty to the world around us.
Sometimes, however, we fail to really capitalize on our
potential. Laziness, distraction, or self-pity can get in the way if we are unwilling to put in the hard work to improve
our natural gifts, if we allow ourselves to zone out with
entertainment or frivolous pastimes instead of making
good use of the time entrusted to us, or if we wallow in negativity by focusing on what we don't have instead of
embracing what we do.
Each moment is a gift from God. May we seize every opportunity to multiply the investment God has made in
us so that we may be worthy to hear God tell us, "Well
done, my good and faithful servant."

Our devotion to Mary is a significant aspect of our Cath-olic Faith. She is the Mother of Jesus and our Mother
through Baptism. She is the model Christian and a sym-
bol of the Church. In “The Joy of the Gospel”, Pope
Francis states that we, like Mary, must be concerned about and treat others as a mother does her children.
“Our first mission is to the poor, the sick, the despised,
those overlooked.” (#48) Just as a mother listens to her children, learns the difficulties they are encountering and
speaks in such a way as to help them understand, so
should we listen and speak to others. We must find in our hearts the source of living water so that we know what
must be said and how to say it. (#139) There is a “close
connection between Mary, the Church and each member
of the faithful, based on the fact that each in his or her own way brings forth Christ.” (#285) The “interplay of
justice and tenderness, of contemplation and concern for
others, is what makes the ecclesial community look to Mary as a model of evangelization. We implore her
maternal intercession that the Church may become a home
for many peoples, a mother for all peoples, and that the
way may be opened to the birth of a new world.” (#288).

St. Andrew Christmas Novena Prayer
This Christmas Novena, also known as Christmas Anticipation Novena or Prayer to Obtain Favors, is prayed 15 times a day for
25 days beginning on the Feast Day of St. Andrew the Apostle (Nov. 30th) until the Eve of Christmas (Dec. 24th). It is believed that
whoever recites this prayer 15 times a day for these 25 days will obtain what is asked. Even though the novena is titled St. Andrew
Christmas Novena, it is addressed to God Himself, asking Him to grant our request in the honor of the birth of His Son at Christ-
mas. It is a powerful novena.
Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure
Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold.
In that hour, vouchsafe, O my God! to hear my prayers and grant my desires, through the merits
of Our Savior Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen.
Imprimatur – Michael Augustine, Archbishop of New York – Feb 6, 1897.
If you know of a “family in need” this holiday season, please share the information with the Parish Office
(724-593-7479). All information is confidential.
